It wasn’t uncommon to find Hyun by the sea, whether it was surfing or just hanging out by the shore, the sea calmed him in ways nothing could. It was his safe heaven, his place to be himself, with no one bothering him about his future, his occupation, the expectations that his family had over him. Which was crazy, honestly, because he had done everything they wanted yet somehow it seemed like it wasn’t enough. It would never be enough.

But the sea never asked anything from him. And monsters stories aside, this was still his favorite place and forever would be. He was taking one of his usual walks when he spotted Insu sitting on a bench, so he decided to approach the man who seemed to be the only one who understood how important the sea could be to someone else. “I’d advice you against smoking with some scary cancer stories but I figure you’ve heard enough of those” He told him, sitting beside him without asking for permission. He figured the other male wouldn’t mind some company and if he did, he’d tell him. He’d like to think they had reached that type of understanding.

“What are you doing here?” He asked, figuring the answer would be working or just hanging out like he was. “I needed some calming time and you know, this is the one place that gives me just that” He shared, taking some gum, a much healthier option compared to his companion’s choice.

insu hadn’t been expecting any sort of company. he was used to relative quietness at his usual spot so the appearance of the other man gave him a bit of a fright, causing him to almost drop the cigarette that he held between his fingers. “hell, i didn’t even heat you coming.” he let out a weak laugh as he looked over at his new companion. 

“no use in trying, i’ve heard it all too much. if anything was going to stick then i’m sure that it would have gotten through to me years ago.” he shrugged, twirling the smoke in his fingers for a moment before lighting it and taking a long drag. 

what exactly was he doing there? the practical answer probably would have been to lie, make up some lame excuse about work that would bring the conversation to a dull close and let insu return to the quiet contemplation that he had been lost in moments earlier. but there was a part of him that felt wrong with the lie. 

he nodded in agreement. “it’s calming here. it’s kind of like it’s the one place that i know i can always go when my head is spinning so much that i’ve lost sight of what is wrong and what is right.”

insu has been at sea for too long. sometimes he enjoys endless days of trips, going wherever the sea happens to call them to. but there are other times where the overwhelming silence that comes along with the boat rocking in the middle of nowhere that leave him with his thoughts for much too long to be considered healthy. this past trip happened to be one of those.

insu knows exactly what is expected of him. his entire life had been built that way. from the day he was born his family knew exactly the person that he was meant to become and that meant that there were sacrifices that he needed to make for his family to keep things as they need be. insu fears the wrath the gods may have on him if he decided to stray from his predestined path.

no matter how much fear he may keep bottled up, the thoughts still cross his mind. and with no idea how to clear them from his head he makes his way to the waters edge. he always found that it was easier to clear his head when he was free from his family home.

he slumped down on the unoccupied bench, letting out a long sigh as he fumbles with his lighter to light the cigarette he had popped between his lips. there were many times he had tried to quit but it seemed like the stress of life was all too much for insu the majority of the time.

hi hi everyone i’m ria (aka miri) and i'm back with another muse, park insu. he's an island native and his family is well-known around town for being just a little eccentric (they're straight up crazy. they have a reputation). insu is kinda sane for his family but he definitely follows along with their antics.

i will hopefully soon get a wanted plots page up but in the meantime here is a profile/bio page and i’ll pop some facts down under the cut.

insu is the son of a fisherman who is the son of a fisherman who is the son of a fisherman (so on and so forth). his life was pretty much predestined before he was even born but he doesn't seem to have a problem with that.

he was fairly isolated as a child since his parents wanted to make sure that he learned what they wanted him to (a weird sort of homeschool ish thing minus actual school work).

insu married his first love when he was still a teenager but his family recently forced a divorce on him when she got involved with REFRB (aka the devil to the park family) so he's working through that.

if he isn't on a boat he can often be found at the park family fish stall or wandering around town wearing his raincoat. he's the friendliest person (unless you are one of the monsters who is developing the island)
