Inktober Day 1: 'Dream' - this is from a nice dream David had where he was carrying a baby along the road where he was brought up, but one side of the road was now a saltwater estuary and a long parade of sea creatures was slowly drifting past, to the babies great delight, including this lobster/shrimp with a lady's head - it was drawn with a red ballpoint pen, then outlined with a red 0.5 nib V5 Pilot pen

Inktober Day 31: Moody Mandrake. It was quite happy in the ground until you pulled it up In reality you should never pull up a Mandrake without ear protection on account of the screaming

Inktober Day 30: A Tiny Hero! At last! An actual tiny hero. We remembered what this Timblog is called on the penultimate day of Inktober.

Inktober Day 27: The Doll Lady. Is her face skin or porcelain? Is the holed stone around her neck part of the curse that condemns her to wander the corridors of the rectory? Why, when she walks, is there the sound of sticks clacking together and creaking?

Inktober Day 27: Ricardo Von Meggs; He's a head with two legs. A character invented in the last century by David. Ricardo has changed a little in the last twenty or so years - the addition of an extra 'g' in his surname - a few more wrinkles and a slightly more wry expression. He was designed to be a storyteller who would introduce each episode of a show, a bit like 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' (A show much loved by Nicola and David). Ricardo would have been long forgotten if animator Paul Hill hadn't kept David's original sketches and then posted them on his (now archived) animation blog 'Subtraction' - In Paul's words: "Of course, if Ricardo is only a head with two legs then how does he pick things up? Simple, he has a cat that does all the menial tasks for him, like filling his pipe with tobacco. This then allows Ricardo to get on with the important business of telling his intriguing tales."

Inktober Day 26: David went a bit over-the-top at a work buffet today. When someone says that their body is a temple, they may not tell you exactly what kind of temple it is, and what the rituals that are carried within entail.

Inktober Day 25: Errand Man! One of the lesser-known superheroes. How *does* he get you three pies from the butchers AND 96 tablets of 400mg Ibuprofen with only 4 mins left before closing. HIs amazing list has all his errands on, the feathers on his hood, shoes and comfortable trousers (no chafing during a long errand), in combination with his tiny cloak all help to cut down wind resistance. He never runs though, just an insistent lope through town with his astonishing bag of carrying.

Inktober Day 23: A kind of bee - what kind is not clear, perhaps a floofbee - it's made partly in biro for the fur and a Uni Pin fineline pen for the rest

Inktober Day 22: some sort of mushroom triffid or something - it's actually quite a small drawing in biro - it looks more menacing blown up big. It's a very pleasant fungus really, honestly!

Inktober Day 21: General Custard. David would like to own four cats and call them, The Void, Golgotha, Spellcheck and General Custard. The last one is based on a corrupted memory of watching the film Rooster Cogburn (1975) as a child. John Wayne's character (the titular Rooster Cogburn) had a cat that he called The General. David remembered the cat as having an eyepatch, but it was Rooster who had the eyepatch, the cat had two eyes. In David's imagining, General Custard is a yellowish long furred cat with an eyepatch and a collar that features a sheriff's star. General Custard's matted fur is portrayed here only for artistic reasons, and David would like to point out that were he to own an elderly, long-haired cat, he would ensure the fur would not get into the condition portrayed in the artwork.

Inktober Day 20: After the Rain. They've put on the boots to play in the rain. This isn't scientifically accurate as rainbows are a full circle when you lift them up.

Inktober Day 17: Amphibian Me Time. What could be nicer for a frog than a relaxing bath, a good book, and a pipe full of rhubarb tobacco after a hard day jumping about by the pond

Inktober Day 16: The Owl Guard. These avian sentries were brought in to deal with the age-old problem, suffered by any regent or dictator - how do you stop your overnight guards from nodding off. No such problem with The Owl Guard - though there have been unconfirmed reports of them abandoning their posts to chase after mice. This is quite a small drawing using sepia coloured Faber and Castell Pitt artists pens
