tell me about zenos' redesign

I don't like it, kinda simple as that.

If that's not enough:

I see what was the plan, alas it's too Sephiroth-y and cheap. It goes against the already established aesthetic he had: bulky yet elegant, warm colors, no black yet a dark silhouette. Cool and unique. Black, red and gold are Garlemald's colors, especially Varis'. Zenos, despite being a product of the place, rejects the Empire at his core. If his first appearance was black/red/gold only to be later replaced by the fuschia/silver/white of his SB armor and SHB cape it kind of would've made more sence narratively and would mirror Yotsuyu's deal in a way. So I don't get why they make a character who starts off as an antithese to the ideals of Garlemald, tears said Garlemald apart, kills his father, who is the symbol of the empiral heritage, gets kicked out from said empire, picks up the art of those who opposed the empire from withing and then for some reason sports the Garlean Prince Look™️You can argue about the narrative part but don't forget it's a subscription mmorpg it unfortunately isn't as half deep as the fans wish it to be. The scythe would go better with the fuschia/silver palette too

Making him the reaper poster boy was just ??? too. Like ok lore-wise I get it but making bulky weapon/slim fit is painfully overused by FFXIV. They killed him off immediately and then took away the same role from Zero, so iirc we don't even have a RPR poster boy now.

Digging a little in imperial military uniforms to figure out what is the inspiration behind Rogue Trader’s commissar design. Unlike the other wh40k iterations it no longer has That One leather coat and white trimming aesthetic. Instead, there’s hussar uniform vibe to it. BUT hussars are light cavalry and as a rule had the jackets (I think they’re called dolmans in Eng) waist/hip length while the RT commissars have a tunic, mid hip length “skirt” part, with the hussar buttons decor. Wider pants also imply it’s supposed to be a tunic under the coat

I’m posting it like a cautionary tale, not a tutorial on how to restore a piano. Just in case 💀

As for the company I couldn’t find much about it (I didn’t search much either yet tbh) it existed since 1903 but I have yet to come across any kind of serial number on the instrument itself. Most Goldschmidts on sale I’ve found had no coat of arms above the keyboard. Some parts of the piano were replaced, like the lack of decor on the right side of the front board, but not the insides although, again, no number there either. The wood used for the pedal mechanisms appears slightly newer. My guess is that it’s from 1920s since it ended up in Petersburg before 1940s and more recent models from the same fabric do not have the coat but idk just a feeling mostly

Polished with some very soft solution and well. It does appear shinier. What I assumed was varnish getting dissolved apparently is of the same origin as the “caustic drops” and is the result of some unlucky attempt at cleaning — I found cup stains on the top cover where the varnish damage is most noticeable.

Next is dusting the insides and then tuning it. Hopefully its mechanisms are in a better state than the one my family has.

Continuing the piano misadventures:

It is possible to scrub off the dust and filth to reveal the true colour of the wood but I cannot think of how to do it without damaging the surface finish.

Previous owners seemingly tried to cover it anew with something that doesn’t hold on well and leaves yellow stains on contact. Also it gets sticky with minimum moist. Or perhaps they tried to wash it with some caustic solution if to assume the bright sprinkles are of the same origin.

Current plan is dry cleaning and polish it a bit manually, I don’t trust myself with something more serious than that.
