I have to reblog it again, sorry sorry sorry, because i just saw a comment under MotoGP instagram post about Tardozzi responding to the booing that I think really encapsulate the core devide between F1 and motogp in therms of fan bases, The comment was:

"Tardozzi, even for how hard you try, Ducati is not Ferrari. Bare that in mind next time you expect an entire fan base to turn opinions around one rider just because he signed for your team"

And that is totally what I was talking about in my original post, we can just look at how different the reception of Lewis coming to Ferrari was compared to Marc coming to the factory team. One was pretty much welcomed with open arms and a red, eheheh, carped at the entrance and even if some Tifosi were resistant they were soon silenced by the overwhelming positivity. Marc on the other and was treated by the public as a time ticking bomb about to explode at any sudden movement, in the more charitable cases, or as a morbose rabid dog ready to snap and usurp the golden boy, in the most vicious comments.

another Important factor to count in is the fact that while in F1 fan bases are for the overwhelmingly majority of cases based on the teams the divide "us vs them" is more accentuated. In MotoGP the trend is to root, or despise, the rider not caring in which factory/seat he goes to; this in tow makes simpler banding up un a specific rider, especially if that said rider has a decade old beef with one of the gods of the sport.

I love Ducati and Davide for standing up for Marc to the Italian fans!

Just a little postille: for as much as any Spanish rider, especially one with a marquez surname, will ride for an Italian manufacturer, unfortunately, it will never be perceived as "ours". He could win as much as he wants but that would never change the feeling of "other" in a lot of Italian fans' minds because of all the damage that 2015 and after has done.

It's not mine or, I hope, a lot of others but a majority of the people that go to the races, especially mugello being the home of The Doctor and all the other italian riders, will not go out of the way to change and evolve their way of thinking.
