Vrains Pokémon au: the Lost incident / Hanoi project

In this version of the Lost incident each child is given an egg. This egg hatches into a monotype Pokémon. Together the child and Pokemon must battle.

They are locked in a tiny room. And the end of the room is a door. Every day it opens allowing in a random wild pokemon (that’s agitated so they will attack the children.) the children and their pokemon must battle them. If the knock the pokemon out, it is removed and they receive food. If the child’s pokemon faints then the child is shocked and possibly attacked by the wild pokemon before it can be removed.

This data is what is used to create the Ignis.

Test subject: 001 (Jin)

Pokemon: shiny Shinx (this was not intended by the scientist but it is where lightning gets a lot of his astetic from.

I think someone actually suggested Shinx for him and they are so right. Since Jin was so heavily traumatized by the events, I don’t think Shinx evolve during it’s time in the experiment.

It acts as a therapy animal to Jin. He’s still nonverbal and very much shut down but does pet Shinx. The little one is often curled up in his lap trying to help him.

That is until Jim is kidnapped by Lightning… (I don’t know if I want Shinx to also be taken and be forced to evolve or if it stays with Shoichi/Cal and work to get Jin back)

Test subject: 002 (Specter)

Pokémon: Cubone

Data used to create the Earth Ignis (or ground Ignis)

I’ve talked about this one before. Cubone has the iconic backstory of losing its mother. And Specters trauma isn’t in the Lost incident but in the loss of mother tree.

In the actual event I think Specter would enjoy the battling and raising Cubone. I think he would care for his pokemon. Maybe his is the only one thrown in not as an egg, but still a baby. Finding meaning not only in battle but in distracting Cubone from the lost of his mother.

It gets mirrored after they are freed and Specter finds out that Mother Tree was cut down. Cubone trying to provide comfort before following his trainer to the Kights of Hanoi.

The rest of Specters team are all grass types but since his Ignis is Earth, I wanted his incident pokemon to be rock or ground. Looking at the options I liked Cubone the best for all the reasons above.

Test subject: 003 (name unknown)

Pokemon: Rookidee

Data used to create the Wind Ignis (or flying Ignis)

For the windy origin the only option is Rookidee. It is the only pure flying type that isn’t a legendary. I can see it evolving once in or outside of the incident but not to its final evolution (since that is flying and steel)

We don’t know a lot about the kid in canon. To the point that I had to edit a screen shot to make a baby version of this kid (not my best art but it will do)

Test subject: 004 (Miyu)

Pokemon: Feebas

Data used to create the water Ignis

For Miyu I had a lot of options to choose from, there are a lot of pure water types. But I landed on Feebas. Mainly because it evolves into Milotic. It’s a beautiful Pokemon, has the pigtail look going one, fits the Marincess theme.

I don’t think it evolves into Milotic until way after the events of the incident. As Miyu heals and raises Feebas eventually it evolves into Milotic.

After Miyu’s kidnapping/coma?? And Aqua joining Aoi/Skye, Milotic also joins her battle team.

Pokemon: Growlithe

Data used to create the fire Ignis

I’ve talked about this one before. I chose Growlithe because it is a pokemon known for its loyalty and that’s a big thing for Takeru. He is the “best friend” arcytype and a big thing is their loyalty to the MC.

But also it’s a very protective pokemon aligning with Takeru as well.

Its evolution is also locked behind a stone. Just like Takeru’s growth is locked behind him confronting his trauma from both this incident and the lose of his parents.

He takes a big step when he battles for the first time with flame and I think that’s a great time for him to find or be given a fire store to evolve Growlithe into Arcanine

Pokemon: Absol

Data used to create the dark Ignis

Another choice I’ve talked about at length.Absol is one of my favorite Pokemon. But it is also a pure Dark type and the disaster Pokemon. It is deeply misunderstood in universe as people think it cause disasters but really it senses them before they happen and tries to warn people.

Similar to Yusaku’s link sense. His ability to sense threats in the network. He also gets targeted and blamed by the SOL tech for things he didn’t do or stoped from happening. This is because SOL tech has its own motives against him and the Ignis. While the public loves Playmaker he’s still painted in negative light. It doesn’t help that he always has an Absol by his side.

Because Jaden’s prince life looks like it takes place in a European style castle. The oldest of which is like 800 AD. But that’s also not fair because it could be a Roman structure which could be as early as 55-54BC. But the first castle castle was built in Syria 3000 BC. Jaden’s Prince life never gets a date.

But part of me says it doesn’t even matter since the Gentle Darkness is the force that built the universe and is wielded by Jaden/his prior life/lives? So is he as old as time itself.

My brain hurts and this is one of the many reasons this chapter is so delayed because my head keeps spinning around this like rotisserie chicken.

Back on my pokemon au

One thing that’s hard to do with Yugioh is mix the different cast from different shows because of timeline shenanigans. Yes you can do it! But it falls into four camps

The characters have aged. See my Jaden Muto au. The characters are older and wiser. Yugi would be around 28/29 when Jaden is 14/15. Doing this route is fun, I’m having a blast! But doing this you can never have all of the protagonist together. At least not in their prime. Heck some are dead by the time later series happen.

Bonds beyond time it. Were time traveling to help each other with a threat. Sometimes we get stuck there. Again always a good time. Very funny to see how DM characters respond to Link summons. (As someone who was around for the og anime and has only recently started watching Vrains the DM cast responds the same way irl plays who dusted off their 20 year old deck after DSOD only to get rocked by the newer deck. “What the F*** is a Link summon?” Quote Joey Wheeler probable.) again always a good time and if you care for the actual game you can have fun updating characters decks.

The timeline doesn’t matter. All the shows happen at the same time or one right after the other, and the protagonist meet afterward and share trauma. This also works if you put the characters in a “vacuum” and don’t care about consistance. Because ya it’s crazy the battle city and the god cards happens and then a month later the sacra’s beast get realeased, and two months after that the dark signers and so on and so forth. It all just happens in different cities or worse at the same time. (Like marvel movies where iron man 2, Thor, Incredible Hulk and the end of the first adventure all happened in like a span of a week in universe. Crazy that many world ending things happen in a week but oh well…)

Multiverse of Arc V everyone’s around but it’s the Arc V world and you have to explain why the protagonist weren’t around. You also have to decide if you’re keeping all dimensions separate or blending them and if you blend them what plot has and has not happened? - a true sand box.

But we’re not here to talk about all that we’re here to talk about Pokemon aus.

Because you know what. If Ash has been ten for almost the whole anime and when through a world ending evil team in each region who (minus kanto and johto) weren’t working together, plus all the craziness of the movies. I think it’s realistic to say that all of the yugioh protagonist could have their own separate adventures around the same time, as long as they are all in different regions. They can meet afterwards as they all travel around. Boom now I can have everyone have their own adventure and get weird interactions/cameos between groups

Because DM obviously happens 1st with Yugi becoming champion. The DM cast then starts traveling.

From there everything can happen at the same time. All the protags know about Yugi, some looking up to him more than others. But they are also all having their own adventure

Jaden still gets the school setting but as a pokemon academy. He and his friends are still dealing with the release of “sacred beast”, the cult, and the Yubel. Though this time all in Pokemon flavor. (The sacred beast being the legendary beast: Raikou, Entei, and Suicune. You could make the god cards the Legendary Birds: zapdos articuno and moltres. Both are trios that fit the color scheme and the legendary beast are Otto’s version of the legendary birds just like the sacred beasts are Gxs version of the god cards. Is it a one to one: no. But it serves its purpose) things like that.

Yusei still has the dark signer arc going one. I don’t know what pokemon will fill that role yet. But he can still have the class war/discrimination aspect as well.

Yuma can have whatever he has going on. I’ve never watched Zexal. I probably won’t touch it much in this au. It exists. People can play with the lore all they want. I just don’t know it well enough to do it justice.

Yuya also starts off in a school setting but instead of jumping dimensions he’s traveling between regions looking for Zuzu. He can meet all the other yu boys and bracket girls in their regions as well as way more characters from other shows since they are living in their regions still or traveling to others.

Yusaku’s region I’ve already talked a lot about. He’s still dealing with the knights of Hanoi and the Ignis.

I just think there’s a lot of potential in traveling trainer Joey popping into places he shouldn’t be.

The Kaiba brother hosting their own league while Seto is also trying to dominate others.

The Trusdale brothers starting their own league in their region. Maybe a minor league like we see in Galra or the Gx region is like Aloha with no true league to challenge. Until the Trusdale brothers set one up.

Jaden is 100% a wondering train. If you’ve played the Black/White games their is a beach house and if you wonder in, Cynthia the champion of Sinnoh is just chilling there and challenges to you a battle with her champion team. He has that energy. You bump into him and go “why do I hear boss music? OH NO!!!!”

Aki starts studying to be a Pokemon doctor while Crow and Jack are in the league. Yusei stepped back from battleing for a while. He was the champion but after he stepped down the title fell back to Jack (he’s not angry about that at all…..) Yusei is traveling while Jack is Chanpion and Crow is either a gym leader or Elite four. (Note: another way to play it is Yusei is the traveling Champion who only comes home when he has to which is not often because his Elite 4 are the members of team satisfaction (Crow, Jack, Kalin,) and the other spot is Aki (she deserves it) Aki is still studying to be a doctor and Kalin is still running a town (part of him wants to retire and just be the gym leader of satisfaction town). Yusei almost never needs to come home because his friends defeat most challengers as they are “protecting his peace”

Yuya and the yu boys and Zuzu and the Braclet girls don’t fuse. Honestly Yuya and Zuzu probably aren’t even running in a gym circuit. They probable do contest.

Yugo is competing in the 5Ds gym circuit with Rin. Maybe the 5Ds circuit has a gimmick. Since 5Ds was all about riding duels maybe their gym circuit has weird rules. It’s double battles only or one of the Pokemon gimmicks.

Yuto and Lulu are dealing with whatever is going on Ian the Zexal circuit. Maybe they are dealing with the evil team of the region as resistance fighters.

Yuri and Serena are still going the the Gx academy. But it’s not an evil academy. Maybe the evil cult is trying to worm its way back in after Jaden graduated/left and Yuri joins. Serena did at one point to but learns through the power of friendship that the cults goals are wrong and fights against them.

Yusaku we’ve already been over.

Yugi is the world champion and the goal of every other battle focused trainer. He bumps into all the other protagonists at some point and they help each other out. (Very Pokemon journey)

Problem is I now have to come up with everyone’s teams. Take mercy and send me ideas. I can’t promise I’ll use all of them. But this could be really fun

Being in multi-shipping hell must suck, sorry for that. But yeah, Yusaku and Takeru relationship is so sweet. I see them as best friends/brothers, and it makes me so happy to see they have each other. But I can also easily see them as couple. Which ever one you decide, we will all support you.

Also, what Pokemon do all the Knights of Hanoi underlings use as the generic "grunt pokemon"? I can see it being something baby dragons or Pawniard to match their boss.

Actually being in multishipping hell is great. I get so much content.

I’m super excited to see where this story takes the characters and to see how I feel about all of them by the end.

As for the knights and their pokemon. This is a great question.

In typical Pokemon games when it comes to the villain teams, the only people who have full teams are the leaders. Their second in command will normally have 4-6 Pokemon team depending on the game and when you fight them. Obviously Ryoken has a full team plus extra. (I’m almost done with his trainer card) and spectra gets a full team. He’s a lost incident kid, he gets special privileges.

But when it comes to everyone else… I decided to give the Lieutenants 3 pokemon each. This is still a lot for an enemy to have especially early or midway through the game. And considering the three Lieutenants and the deleted are about midway through Vrains season 1 it seems fighting they would only have three.

For Dr. Kyoto/Baira I wanted her to have a Poison type team. Her deck is a virus deck. I thought about giving her Cofagrigus since she has a mummy like monster but I feel poison types fight her deck better than ghosts. Also there’s something poetic about the doctor that “wants to help people” using poison types. Showing her transformation from doctor who wants to help everyone to being willing to “sacrifice the few to save the many”

Audino - a basic pull and used in her life as a doctor. Definitely was her partner in med school. She didn’t start getting poison types until she joined the Hanoi project. I also wanted all the lieutenants to have a pokemon that could mega evolve so this is her’s.

Galarian Slowking - a physics poison type that is extremely smart and deadly and would have been helpful to create her virus.

Seviper - poison snake. Deadly and vicious

For Aso/Faust’s team I went with a Bug team as he has the Motor Worms Deck. His monster cards look like bugs so he’s getting bugs.

Beedrill - this is his oldest partner and the one that can mega evolve.

Escavalier - a steel/bug type that has the knight theme going on.

Golisopod - a tank and a water type while still firing the “worm” theme we have going on.

His whole team is duel Tyler because it gives him more coverage and makes it harder to take him down. A bug trainer that actually packs a punch.

For Genome (who either uses his legal name for his avatar and fixed himself or we never actually learned this guys real name) I went with a Psychic team.

Reuniclus - this is the DNA pokemon. Honestly I almost just gave him this pokemon and left it alone. I also thought about just giving him three of them or the evolutionary line. But I wanted to diversify his team a bit.

Alakazam - power house of the team, and fills the spot of having one pokemon that can mega evolve. An incredibly smart pokemon that can manipulate people’s minds. As Genome does play head games.

Claydol - a clay doll that has been brought to life by mysterious means??? Genome is having a field day with him.

Honestly I gave him Psychic since the other two had themed teams (for the most part and Specter has a grass themed team with one exception) and because fighting types are weak to Psychic meaning Go/Gore is going to have a hard time fighting Dr. Genome.

Now for the grunts….

I don’t know. They should only have one and in the show they all have Cracking Dragon it their is no good Pokemon that fills that role. If they have dragon types they only have one and it’s probably at its 1st or second evolution stage (depending on how high up they are) or idea two their pokemon is based off of who their direct superior is.

If they work under Specter they get a Grass type. Most likely a Tangela or Roselia

If they work under Baira they have a poison type most likely a Galarian Slowpoke/Slowbro or a Serviper

If they work under Faust they have a Bug type most likely a Beedrill that’s can’t mega evolve.

If they work under Genome they get a Psychic type. Most likely Baltoy or Kadabra

And if they report directly or Revolver which is probably no one as they all get directed through one to the Lieutenants or Specter. Or if they are a square leader. Then they get a dragon type. Probably a Shelgon as it’s the middle evolution stage of Revolver’s Ace

Part 6 of Vrains pokemon au

Takeru/Soulburner’s team

I just met my boy and I’m excited to see how he does in the show. But as someone who’s played him for months in duel links I got an okay grasp of what I want his team to look like, but not enough of a grasp to know when everything evolves.

Arcanine

Sunlight wolf is one of the main link cards and arcanine fits him as it is brave and loyal.

Growlithe was the pokemon he received during his time in the Lost Incident.

Just like with Yusaku he woke up in a room alone with nothing but an egg. It hatched into a Growlithe and the two suffered through the Lost Incident.

After he was rescued and learned about his parent Takeru shut down. Growlith never leaves his side and is very protective of him. Just like Absol is of Yusaku

Talonflame

A bunch of his cards are bird theme and with both falco and parro and pyro phoenix it feels wrong to not have the fire falcon on his team

Pyroar

Taking the role of Heatleo as Leo means lion and Pyroar fills that spot nicely.

Caught as a Litleo and evolved it to a Pyroar before becoming Soulburner.

Blaziken

Again a lot of his cards are birds so it feels wrong not to have the fire chicken. Also it’s a fighting type and Takeru is a fighter.

Got as a Torchic

Evolves it to a Combusken before he became Soulburner.

Is a great sparing partner. Takeru defiantly trains with his Pokemon.

Quilava

Based on spinny

Got as a Cyndaquil and will probably still be a Cyndaquil when Takeru joins the cast. Will evolve at some point during his time as Soulburner.

I don’t know if it will ever make it to Typhlosion

You are not the only one. I just restated Pokemon violet. I was doing it to bring over all my Pokemon from legend of Arceus and trade with a friend but I’ve definitely been catching the Pokemon from this au and naming them appropriately.

I got a Ceruledge named Decode. I’ve got a shiny Mareep named Cloudia I have a lot of Soulburner’s team mostly because there are a lot of fire types in the early game. It’s been a good time and I’m glad you’re having fun with it as well!!!

I love the PokemonxVrains au! I was looking through Pokemon to see what could match, and I came to the discovery that no Pokemon has a three or even two stage evolution that is pure flying type. So for Windy's partner he could have a Rookidee that never evolved into it's final form.

As for Jin, their are a ton of pure electric evolutions, but I think Shinx is a good choice, as I could see that bubbly personality having a hard time controlling their electricity.

I think the idea (as a Datastormshipper) of Yusaku giving Ryoken or vise versa and it just hasn't happened yet a Applain is adorable!

(Deep sigh) you know. When I came up with the “the lost kids received one pokemon that was purely their Ignis type idea” I thought ‘this will be fun and thematic, it can’t possible cause me any problems :D’

The dark type easy best boy Absol one of my faves and a great pull thematically from Yusaku.

Then on to Specter (the 2nd lost child we meet, yes we learn about Jim first but we don’t meet him or learn more than fellow victim so I’m waiting on him) Cubone. Again it’s a ground type and great thematically for him as a character.

And you know both of them has small pools to pull from especially the ground type likes to double as rock. But I was like this is okay fire, water, and electric should be okay. I checked them to see my options and I got a lot of them.

You know who I didn’t check? Flying. Until this very moment.

Why is Windy and his original giving me all the problems? Paradox pokemon, there’s only one flying type and it’s also the only dark type so it goes to Yusaku. Meaning they don’t fit the theme… I have a plan for that and a way to explain it in cannon but come on! And now my only options are a Rookidee that can’t evolve past its second stage or Tornadus who’s a legendary. Thats it! Those are the only pure flying types.

Is this why the writers ignored Windy’s origin in the show? I feel like every time the lost kids are brought up we can talk about the other 5 with ease and then we go and this one exists…. Moving on.

I’m going to have to strategize here. Cause I already gave Ryoken the Rookidee line. Ya I can remove it or double up…. Maybe give one of them a shiner to visually distinguish their birds. The shiny has a silver coloration, does that fit Ryoken better than Windy’s origin? I’m going to say yes.

Must think on this….

But let’s talk about the other three who I have way more options for!

Takeru has so many options but I think I’m settling on Growlithe for his Lost Incident partner. Growlithes are known for their loyalty and I think that’s a big this for Takeru. It’s also a full fire type. I honestly have his team fully picked out based on his cards I just need to figure out when he gets them/evolves them. Gowlithe is also filling in the role of Sunlight wolf. I thought about giving him Hisuian Growlithe cause I love that design but that one is fire/rock and alas does not match my rules.

Miyu has a lot of options as well hand I haven’t met her in cannon yet so I need to see her personality and how the Marincess play and fiction. Since Aoi doesn’t get these cards until she becomes Blue Maiden, I can only assume she got them from Aqua. (I could be wrong about this) my assumption is that these cards were originally intended for Miyu, but Aoi gets to use them since she’s filling in as Aqua’s partner. Maybe in this au it Miyu’s team that Aoi uses as Blue Maiden or at least she has access to them. Again these are ideas I’m playing with.

For Jin I think you’re so right with the Shinx line. It’s bubbly and as a baby would have problems controlling its power. Also Legends of Arceus has taught me that line is viscous. And a shiny Shinx line fights lightings ascetic to a T.

I’m playing with the idea of the ignis having “digital copies” of Pokemon. Think about the first Pokemon movie/3rd Pokemon movie where Mewtwo and the Unknown had clone/dream Pokemon to fight for them.

Maybe Jin’s Shinx is shiny and all the copies aren’t or reverse Jin’s is the regular color but lighting uses a copy that’s shiny because he changed it to fit his wants like he changes and manipulates Jin.

Also on the last note. I still don’t know what ship I’m going to sail with. Datastorm can be cute or very possessive depending on how you spin it. A don’t dislike it, I’m actually a fan but I also like in multishipping hell.

Firestormshipping is actually what convinced me to give Vrains a go. (I saw them interact in duel links and then learned about the character arcs and my mind went is Soulburner a Jesse Anderson or a Crow? Both joined the cast late to mixed reviews. I adore Jesse and love spiritshipping, but I always saw Crow as a brother to Yusei. So I wasn’t sure which route they went with Soulburner. I’m still getting to know him so we will see what camp I end up in)

All that being said Ryoken or Yusaku giving each other an Applain is one of the best ideas I’ve had for this au.

(It also works for specter and Ryoken. Really any Ryoken ship works here)

I think it is something Ryoken would love as a dragon expert and also something he would pull just because he thinks it’s romantic. I’m very much looking forward to playing with this idea more in the future.

Saw details for your VRAINS Pokémon AU and wanted to just suggest some options: Kusanagi/Kolter was on track to being a sports star before he traded that to learn computer skills so he could figure out what happened to his brother. I can see him with two teams, one for his hot dog stand and one for his hacker persona: Hot Dog Stand: Cinderace, Passimian, Slowpoke, Arboliva, Toedscruel, Slurpuff Hacker: Rotom, Porygon-Z, Iron Valiant, Scizor, Lucario, Magnezone Aoi/Skye also changed her deck when she became Blue Maiden, using Marincess cards instead of her Trickstars. Also Revolver was a bit of a meme for a while since he used a lot of cards not really since since the time of DM/GX/5Ds like Mirror Force and Mind Crush, so his team being made of nothing but early Gen Pokémon fits and would be a perfect disguise for Ryoken.

This is my favorite part of Pokemon au’s because everyone has there own ideas of what the teams should be and it leads to so many fun conversations.

I’m still making my way through season 2 but I know quite a bit of what’s going to happen (I love a spoiler)

I know Kusanagi/Kolter used to be an athlete and I was going to make that into a trainer who was doing the gym circuit. As most of the characters aren’t actively tackling the gyms or trying to become champion. I think in this world before becoming a hacker/hot dog man Kusanagi/Kolter was well on his way to being a high level trainer. Of course his path changes after the lost incident, he’s 24 in the series making him 14 when the incident occurs so he has been a trainer for 4 years and would have had a solid team.

Honestly I’ve been struggling with him because realistically he should have three teams.

His original team for the gym circuit.

His hot dog stand team

His hacker team

Now obviously some of these Pokemon can be pulling double duty. (Also his team will be facing off against Yusaku later so that also has to be kept in mind but not to much as this isn’t the video game and the character who wins is whoever I say wins)

I do love Cinderace and Passimian for him as they are quite sporty. (I was planning on Takeru/Soulburner. Having a Scorbunny filling in for Almiraj. But his won’t be evolving so it might be a fun bonding thing for them to share an evolution line.) I can also see them being on the team of a trainer who was serious about the gym circuit.

I was thinking about Torkoal for him as well as it is a Pokémon that could be on a gym circuit team. It’s also has a great defense stat leaning into Kusanagi/Kolter being Playmaker’s shield. Also it’s like a charcoal grill for the hotdog stand.

Likewise I was thinking about Dachsbun because hotdog bun. (Get it bun dog…. I’ll see myself out) it would also give him some type variety.

I also thought about Munchlax because he eats a lot.

Like I said I’ve been struggling with Kusanagi/Kolter. I got three Pokemon that could be working at Cafe Nagi but I wasn’t sure what his gym team or baker team should be.

I like your suggestions for his hacker team. I’m kinda reserving the future paradox pokemon for the ignis/origin kids so I don’t know if he could have Iron Valiant unless he gets it from Ai or Lighting. Things to think about.

I want to actually see his backstory before I lock in to his team. Yusaku’s took me forever to figure out because I knew I wanted a Pokemon to represent all of his code talkers since they represent the Ignis.

I’m planning to switch up Aoi/Skye/Blue Angel’s team. The original Blue Angel team I created is to play off her idol persona. As her deck changes so will her team. I just want to see her new cards and how they play/which ones she most commonly uses before I make her new Pokémon team.

Oh I didn’t know that about Revolver being a meme. I made his team very dragon focus/knight themed focus. I don’t think I put anything older than Gen 3 on his team. How did I not put the Dragonite line on there… I do like the idea that he has a team that is a disguise.

I already had the idea that Ryoken would be registered as a researcher not a trainer to disguise what he and the Hanoi are doing. Maybe I’ll keep his Revolver team as is but have Ryoken only have a Dragonair legally registered to him. (It’s Gen 1, it’s a dragon, and it’s pretty.)

Part 2.5 of Vrains Pokémon Au

Part 2 of Yusaku’s team

I talked a lot about some of these choices in the prior post so let’s go over the changes

At the start of the series

Absol is the Pokémon that Yusaku got during the Lost incident. He woke up with nothing but the egg and a shock collar. The two survived the lost incident together and for a long time Absol was Yusaku’s only Pokemon. (Note: this is the only Pokemon people believe Yusaku has)

For a long time Yusaku was terrified of all Pokemon that weren’t Absol. in the lost incident they would send in wild Pokemon and force Yusaku and absol to battle them. If they won they got food and if Absol was knocked out Yusaku was shocked. The wild pokemon would be removed from the room while Yusaku and Absol recovered only to be sent in again later. This built a deep fear in Yusaku of any Pokémon that wasn’t his partner.

Two years after the incident Yusaku and Absol found an injured Charcadet. While Yusaku was terrified of the little one he also couldn’t leave it there to suffer. He took it back home and nursed it back to health. After it was better the Charcadet refused to leave. Yusaku slowly got more and more comfortable around the little guy and by the next year he had officially “caught it” (more like it found a pokeball and put it in Yusaku’s hand before catching itself) it stays a Charcadet until Yusaku is 15 and going through the maze (where he meets Kusanagi) there he finds the malicious armor and Charcadet evolves into Ceruledge (fills the role of Decode Talker)

Deino was added to the team once Yusaku was 15 and starting to plan his revenge. He knew he would need to be stronger if he was going to be taking on the people responsible for the Lost Incident. But he was still hesitant to battle against Wild Pokemon. He was training his Absol and Charcadet against each other when Deino saw them. Deino watched for days as Yusaku and his team trained in a secluded spot. Watched how hard the three worked and how kind Yusaku was to his team. Eventually the little dragon revealed itself causing quite the commotion as both of Yusaku’s Pokémon moved in between him and the new wild Pokémon, knowing the Yusaku still had a deep rooted fear of wild Pokemon. But the little dragon wasn’t there to battle it was there to join up. Yusaku knew he couldn’t complete his goal alone but had been dreading catching new Pokemon. He wasn’t going to look a gift horse in the mouth and allowed the little dragon to join the team. (Will fill the role of Firewall Dragon)

Much like Deino, Mareep found its way to Yusaku very similarly. The little lamb finding its way to their secret training ground. Though it didn’t wait to as long as Deino before introducing itself to Yusaku. The little lamb bouncing over to them as soon as it saw them. (It caught them after training while Yusaku was healing up his team and thought it was a great time to play) the little one bouncing over and going right to Yusaku and accidentally shocking the boy. One panic attack and over protective Absol later Yusaku welcomed the very apologetic Mareep to the team. (Why Mareep? To the angst meeting and cause it reminds me of his RAM and ROM cards)

Honedge was a gift from Kusanagi. It was a sign of their partnership. After they became a team Kusanagi’s learned of Yusaku’s fear of wild Pokemon. He knew Yusaku was the better battler between them but that doesn’t matter if he doesn’t have a team backing him up. Since Kusanagi’s is the shield and Yusaku the sword/spear, it only made sense that Yusaku should have the sword Pokemon.

After Playmaker and Revolvers first battle (episode 12)

Honedge evolves during their first battle with Go. Becoming a Doublade.

Shiny Beldum joins the team right before the battle with Blue Angle. Now that Ai is here, he is guiding Yusaku to Pokemon that respond to his call (think of it like data storms instead of making a data storm for Yusaku to pull from Ai creates an tone that humans can’t hear but calls to nearby Pokemon.) Beldum responds to his call. The binary song is a call that basically asks for help while also sing Yusaku’s praises (the boy doesn’t need to know that though) (Beldum and its evolutions will take the role of Encode talker the shiny color scheme matches)

Finally Deino evolves during their second battle with Revolver. Becoming a Zweilous and pulling out the win for Playmaker.

At the start of the Tower of Hanoi incident

Ai calls out again leading to Yusaku gaining Scyther (this will take the role of Excode talker as they are a flying type and Scyther is a bug/flying. Plus color scheme! Yes I know Scyther loses the flying type and color scheme but it’s the best we are going it get) he catches it right before he battles Ghost Gal. This puts Yusaku at over 6 Pokemon meaning he starts swapping around his team.

Pawniard is another pokemon that responds to AI’s call. (Taking the role of Powercode Talker I know they are a Fire type card and Pawniard is steel/dark but the color scheme!!) they caught it before going up against Faust.

Golett is once again called by Ai. (Taking the role of Transcode Talker they are a Earth type card and Golett is a ground type) (yes I know Yusaku gets this card during his last speed duel against Revolver but we are going to have Yusaku catch it before the Tower incident starts.

At the end of season 1

Zweilous evolves into Hydreigon durning the last match between Playmaker and Revolver.

At the start of season 2

Yusaku might not have been battling as Playmaker but he was still training between seasons. He’s not looking for new Pokemon as he is still uncomfortable with Wild Pokemon and Ai left. But he is training his team. He’s not a big fan of battling and right now everything is peaceful. The Hanoi is gone and he would be good to move forward. But his team likes to battle (at least the ones Ai called to them) and you never know maybe one day he will be comfortable battling for fun.

Pawniard evolves at level 52 into Bisharp

Metang evolves at level 45 into Metagross

Golett evolves at level 42 into Golurk

Once Ai returns he calls a new Pokemon to Yusaku. Clauncher (taking the role of Shootingcode Talker both are water type and Claunchers whole thing is shooting water)

Ai also brings along Morpeko with him. (This is Link Kuriboh, it’s an electric dark type and has a “dark” version in its hangry mode)

At the end of the series

I’m still watching the show so I’m not sure how I want these evolution to go and I might move around some of the earlier ones.

Clauncher evolves into Clawitzer at level 37

Ai gives Yusaku the Black Augurite needed to evolve his Scyther into Kleavor (I just like Kleavor better than Scizor.) But I also think Yusaku getting an extremely rare evolution thanks to his Ignis not only shows the importance of their teamwork but also puts a bigger target of Playmaker and Ai’s backs (when this happens, who knows. I’ll figure it out later)

Doublade evolves into Aegislash with a dusk stone. A dusk stone Kusanagi gives Yusaku before their battle. To reaffirm their partnership and friendship. They knew lighting would try to turn them against each other and Kusanagi’s wanted to make sure Yusaku would be okay without him.

Iron Jugulis is a Pokemon that Ai created. In this au the future paradox Pokemon were created by the Ignis to protect them (and their origins) Iron Jugulis is the Dark type future paradox Pokemon and is AI’s creation. Yusaku takes over its care at the end of the series. It takes the role of Dark Fluid Firewall Dragon so he might get it before Ai “turns against them” as I’m pretty sure Yusaku uses Dark Fluid during the duel against Ai.

Part 5 of Vrains pokemon au

Aoi/Skye/Blue Angel’s team part 1

I still haven’t finished vrains but I know Aoi goes through several changes and decks so I’m sure her team is going to get some editing. But we’re going to start with her girly-pop team. Blue Angel is an idol so in the au she’d start out as a pokemon performer. While she’s more focused on performances don’t for k she can’t battle.

Steenee

This might feel like a strange choice but in her flash backs she has this plant creature stuffed animal. Bounsweet has a similar vibe to that creature.

I think she got Bounsweet from her parents before they passed. It was her companion as she grew up.

By the time the events of season 1 are occurring it has evolved into Steenee.

I don’t know if I prefer it regular in its green, hot pink, and white color pallet. Or it’s shiny as lavender, hot pink, and cream. I think the second goes best with her color pallet. But the regular matches her toy better.

Togekiss

Can’t have an angel themed going on and not have the Togekiss line involved.

Akira gave her a Togepi when she was little. Once he had a more stable position and could start providing for her.

They became very close as the only friends she had at the time was Togepi and Bounsweet. (And Miyu?) so Togepi quickly evolved into Togetic.

One shines stone later and there is a Togekiss flying around.

Brionne

Raised from a Popplio

Another singer and dancer to add to her performances.

Might evolve into Primarina during season 1 or 2

Altaria

Raised from a swablu

Able to sing and dance her Altaria sets the stage a light.

Adding a dragon type to her team as well.

A mega stone is equipped to one of Blue Angel’s bracelet

Swanna

Raised from a Ducklett.

Graceful and beautiful. Her Swanna is a a beast to deal with.

Marill

Adorable baby. Raised from Azurill

Might evolve into Azumaill during season 1. Probably during her battle against the Hanoi.

I just think it fits her and the double ears match her pigtails.

I went really hard on the angle/idol theme. Her team is a mix of flying fairy and a little bit of water and grass. A good idol team.

I know she goes through some changes especially once she gets Aqua so one I see that we will add some additional pokemon to her team.

Part 4 of Vrains Pokemon Au

Specter’s team

Cubone

Received Cubone as part of the Lost incident. They worked together to survive. And eventually thrive

Once the experiment was over a Specter was returned to the orphanage and found out his “mother tree” was cut down Cubone was all he had.

Two children who lost their mothers.

Eventually Specter went to find the one place that gave his life meaning, made him feel stronger. The Hanoi Project.

He and Cubone join the knights of Hanoi.

If Cubone evolves or not it still fills the role of Sunvine Thrasher.

Trevenant

After the Lost incident when Specter went to check on his “mother tree” and found her cut down he also found Phantump. The spirit of a child who was lost in the woods.

Specter, Cubone, and Phantump. Three lost children.

After they joined the Hanoi, Phantump was quick to evolve into a Trevenant. Being trade back and forth between Specter and Ryouken.

Now he has a haunted tree. Perfect for him.

Sceptile

Got Treecko as a gift from Ryouken. As a child who prefers Grass types the gift means the world to him. He was already ready to follow Hanoi to the end of the world but now his loyalty is purely to Ryouken.

It evolved into Grovyle by the time season 1 occurs

Evolves into Sceptile in between season 1 and 2.

Receives a mega stone from Ryouken. This combines their teams as Sceptile is now both a grass type and a dragon type

Shiny Roserade

He deserves a poison type. And one of his cards, Sunvine Healer, has a rose esc skirt. So theming.

Got it as a Budew after he joined the Hanoi. Until Yusaku and Ryouken who have blanks on their teams or open spots that fill in as the story progresses, I can see Specter wanting a full team as soon as possible to be as strong as possible.

Has evolved to Roselia by the start of season 1 but doesn’t evolve into Roserade until much later.

I chose shine because I think it fits his color palette and energy a lot better then the regular red and blue flowers (also that version would go to Aki from 5ds but we’re not talking about her right now)

Abomasnow evolution line

Got it as a Snover after he joined the Knights of Hanoi.

The little tree not only firing his them but also giving some type variety as it is also an ice type.

Doesn’t evolve until season 2

Tangrowth

The mans got a thing with vines and not putting the vine pokemon on his team seems like a crime.

Again caught it as a Tangela after join the knights.

Probably doesn’t evolve until later but the plot but how late is yet to be seen.

These are the main six I see him with but I can also see him having a

Cherrim - Sunavalon Dryatrentiay is a tree in full bloom and I feel Cherrim fits that best. Also if he was being genuine about being a fan of Blue Angel I can see him putting one cutesy pokemon on his team. One it has emotional link with his tree theme while also being something he can use to play mind games

Carnivine - again it’s a vine like pokemon and his deck has a thing for vines

Part 3 of Vrains Pokemon Au

Ryouken’s team.

Okay I have two ideas for Ryouken’s team. One is a team made up of knight themed pokemon and one is the obvious Dragon team.

Dragon team

Salamence

He had it as a Bagon when he first met Yusaku when he was 8. His dad gave it to him as a “companion” but also as a way to lure children. He figured kids would be interested in the dragon pokemon and be more willing to go with Ryouken.

Bagon felt awful after Yusaku was taken. The whole time the experiment was occurring he kept trying to find where their friend was being held, being hurt.

Was a big supporter of Ryouken calling the police and freeing the children.

Until it lead to Ryouken suffering. Losing his father.

He’s very protective of Ryouken and the strongest solider when it comes to destroying the Ignis.

Was evolved into Shelgon when they attacked the cybers (still figuring out how that works in this au)

Was fully evolved into a Salamence by the time Playmaker is on the scene

When he finds out Yusaku was Playmaker he was thrilled. Ecstatic that their friend was back. Always excited to battle against him. He thinks the ignis tricked Yusaku into being on their side. Once they explain everything Yusaku will side with them.

Doesn’t understand why Ryouken won’t go talk to their friend rather than being cryptic and fighting him.

Dragapult

Got it as a Dreepy shortly after the incident and his father. He’s a boy who is haunted by his past.

Evolves into Drakloak before they attacked the Cybers

Evolved into a Drgapult before they meet Playmaker.

I think this is a great pokemon for him because it both a ghost so symbolism and because the higher level evolutions shoot out smaller ones like guns.

Kommo-o

Got it as a Jangmo-o while looking for the cybers

Evolved into a Hakamo-o by the time they fight Playmaker for the first time.

Evolved into Kommo-o during their last (season 1) battle with Playmaker.

Type: Null

Got from his father. Maybe after the lost incident started and before Ryouken called the police.

It stays a Type: Null for a long time. Ryouken has a lot to deal with. Null doesn’t fully trust the son of the scientist who caught him. Especially when the boy is working so hard to follow in his father’s footsteps.

It isn’t until Ryouken changes his ways. Starts to grow into his own, that it becomes a Silvally

Gallade

Look at that color scheme. They just fit together.

I just think they fit.

So these are the two teams I have for Ryouken.

Which one do you think is better?

Also you will notice that he only has five members on each team

That is because I think it’s really cute for someone to give him and Applin. As it is a way to show that you are in love with someone.

I haven’t decided on my ships yet for Vrains as I have yet to finish it but I also live in Multishipping hell.

You could make this Datastormshipping with Yusaku giving it to Ryouken or Ryouken going out of his way to catch on to give to Yusaku.

You could also do it as Respectfulshipping with Spectra giving one to Ryouken. It fits them really well as most of Spectra’s team will be plants and it will be a cute way to mix their teams.

I also see the Applin line as the softest dragon and Ryouken softens throughout the series.

Part 2 of Vrains Pokemon au

Yusaku’s team

Absol

The pokemon he received from the lost incident.

He woke up in the room with only an egg. It hatched into Absol.

They suffered the lost incident together. The Hanoi would send in pokemon to attack them. If they won they got food and if they lost not only was food with held but Yusaku was electrocuted.

Over the six months the Pokemon sent into attack then got stronger and stronger. And I do mean attack them Yusaku is in physical danger.

At one point they had a losing streak and Yusaku was giving up. His body was giving out on him and he just wanted it to end. When a voice called out to him. Absol is so grateful to that voice. Maybe more so then Yusaku because they were watching the beloved trainer die in front of their eyes and couldn’t do anything to stop it as they were to weak to beat the Pokemon sent into the room. After the voice called out Yusaku put together a strategy that finally won them a victory and food. Shortly after the experiment ended.

Yusaku and Absol were deeply traumatized. Absol is almost never in their poke ball and is very protective of Yusaku. Many people seeing the pokemon as intimidating.

It’s years before Yusaku and Absol can take part in a Pokemon battle.

(I headcanon that Yusaku, in the show, can’t duel outside of link vrains. The digital world giving enough of a mental barrier for him to duel. For years the sight of a duel monster card made him break down. Even now his hands shake uncontrollably when he tries to draw a card. The digital world is a mental barrier. It’s not really him dueling you know.)

anyway same idea here. Yusaku needs the mask of playmaker to be able to battle.

He doesn’t go on a journey when he’s 10. It’s not until he’s 15, looking into the Lost Incident and meets Kusanagi that he starts training again. Kasanavu wishes he could take this burden from him but even with being years out of practice Yusaku still dominated the field even if it terrifies him.

Ceruledge

Has a similar vibe to Decode Talker

Found as a Charcadet. I don’t know how young Yusaku is when he stumbles upon Charcadet, but it’s before his quest for revenge begins.

Maybe he meets the little pokemon and helps them out. Maybe they were injured and Yusaku and Absol stumbled upon them. Yusaku takes the little one home and tends to its wounds. He’s terrified it will attack him but it never does and he pushes through his fear and trembling hands to help them.

Once the Charcadet is better it just refuses to leave. Yusaku is very freaked out as he doesn’t want to train Pokemon, but the little one doesn’t care if they aren’t battleing as long as it gets to stay with Yusaku.

Charcadet adores Yusaku. Absol slowly warms up to its new roommate. Once the know the Charcadet will do anything for Yusaku they are fine with their presence.

Once Yusaku sets his path in revenge he starts training his Pokemon. Not against wild Pokemon but against each other or Kusanagi’s team.

Very earlier on in their quest they found a set of malicious armor. Charcadet used it to evolve into Ceruledge. A pokemon haunted by a grudge.

Hydreigon

Fills the role of Firewall Dragon

Met it as a Deino. Shortly after Yusaku made his path for revenge he found Deino. The two bonded and Yusaku asked it to join him. They’ve been a team ever since.

Evolved into Zweilous during his first battle against Revolver.

Evolves into a Hydreigon during the second duel with Revolver (season 1 finally)

Mareep

Based on the ROM and RAM cards in his deck (I love them) I wanted him to have a sheep esc pokemon.

I choose Mateo not just because sheep but because it’s an electric type and I feel like all tech people should have at least one electric type.

Now their is also some Angst with this idea as has they can shock people that tough their wool. Yusaku has horrible flashbacks whenever he’s shocked in general.

The first time Mareep accidentally shocked him and he had a flashback it was awful. His pokemon were terrified for him. From then on Mareep worked very hard to control its electrical release.

Also shines? Yusaku having yellow Mareep is grey but what about pink Mareep???

From here I have some problems I don’t know what his last two should be. Or if he’d even have a full team as he is very traumatized when it comes to training pokemon. I have some options

The Honedge evolution line. It’s a ghost pokemon and it plays into the fact that he’s a character haunted by the past. But also the fact that Yusaku is the “sword” to Kusanagi’s “shield”. But I’m just not sure if this truly fits his vibe.

Minccino. This is a pokemon that loves to clean and I thought would be a nice stand in for Roboppi when I was replacing the robots/ai with pokemon. But now we aren’t doing that so I think Minccino would be a pokemon Roboppi would have on their team.

Wooloo. A different sheep type pokemon if I don’t end up liking Mareep. But I think I prefer Mareep.

Bisharp. A warrior like pokemon and feels like a code talker

Honestly I thought about having each of his pokemon represent the code talkers. The talkers reprint the Ignis and having Yusaku’s team mirror that as well could be narratively interesting. But then he would have Hydreigon

He will receive Iron Jugulis from Ai. The Pokemon only responds to them and takes the placed of Darkfluid Firewall dragon. But it’s not part of his official team of 6 a rotation player.

Let me know what pokemon you think Yusaku should have on his team.

Also Revolver. Part of me wants to make him a knight themed team. Pokemon I thing have knight coding or symbolism. The other part of me yells all dragons all the time. What do you’ll think his team should be like?

Vrains pokemon au

I’ve really been enjoying Vrains and I love to make an au so her we go.

I’ve had a lot of thoughts about this. At first I thought about the Ignis being the Ace pokemon of each of their kids but I don’t actually like that idea. I think Vrains loses so much if the Ignis aren’t what they are. So instead of them being duel Ai they are battle Ais or research Ais created to help people and pokemon better work together and explore the mysteries bonds between the two.

Obviously they were still formed via the Lost incident. This time instead of the kids dueling for their lives they are battling with their pokemon. Since the kids are 6 they are two young to be trainers meaning the pokemon they have either

Originally pets/complains that were never meant to battler (owned by their parents etc.)

Are wild pokemon thrown into the room with random child and now they are both working together to survive

Are given to the children by the Hanoi. Maybe the kids wake up in the room with nothing but an egg. The egg hatches into their partner. These pokemon know nothing but their human partner and the suffering they both endure. Making them very protective of the kids as they were hurt anytime the pokemon lost a fight. The affection shown by their kid is what sets their world view. Also once they are rescued the pokemon is in culture shock as they never knew anything but that room.

I’m leaning towards idea 3.

Anyhow the kids are locked in that room for 6 months with nothing but their new partner and their ability to raise the pokemon and strategize in battle to win against anything the Hanoi send in to attack them. Now here’s where ideas are getting blurry.

Obviously the Ignis are watching this occur and learning from their origins. I want to make the Ignis and origin bond matter more. Keep the Ignis around longer. Vrains is the shortest Yugioh series and I wish they had time to play this each of these characters.

I can see them later down the line in the cybers making digital copies of pokemon that they can send out to do battle. Think the Mewtwo clones in the first movie or the illusion pokemon made by the unknown in the 3rd movie. They aren’t real but they can do damage. Later on in the au, after the 10 years pass and Yusaku starts running around as Playmaker for revenge (probably more a vigilante identity then a digital one) and the season 1 plot of fighting the Hanoi passed, the Ignis are out and fighting. I can see each Ignis specializing in a type

Ai obviously only using Dark pokemon

Flame fire

Aqua water

Earth ground or rock

Windy flying

Lighting electricity

They obviously focus on their main type but I also want to bring in the fact that they

Learned from their origin

Care for their origin (as much as they learned how to care)

I was thinking that Maybe they created the Future Paradox pokemon as a present to their origin. They are obviously pokemon but are also technology and even in the pokemon lore are advanced future forms of pokemon. What a way to show the fact that these Ignis will change the very world and could be a real threat then them making their own new pokemon species.

I also think that only the Ignis and their origins could command them. At least until someone beats them in battle…

But I’m having a hard time placing who gets what.

Because part of me wants to say that the future paradox Pokemon are based on the pokemon given to the origins in the Lost incident.

For example Yusaku received a Deino as an egg. The only instructions he got after waking up in that white room with his new egg was “survive and evolve” the egg hatched into a Deino and Yusaku and his new partner were thrown into battle almost immediately with Yusaku getting shocked every time they lost.

Over the next 6 months Yusaku and his Deino worked hard together to survive and bonded. Deino would do anything for Yusaku as he was the only kind thing in their life. I can see Yusaku being very kind and loving towards his team. By the time the 6 months past Yusaku’s Deino has evolved into a Hydreigon (which is so much work it has to be level 64) and then they are rescued.

Years later as Ai and the other Ignis work to create their new pokemon Ai based his off of Yusaku’s partner and creates Iron Jugulis

Now problems with this idea. Not all the kids line up

Iron Jugulis is not only the only Dark type of the future paradox pokemon he is also the only flying type. Meaning Windy either doesn’t make one for his origin or they make a non-flying type which doesn’t feel right.

Flame would make Iron Moth in this scenario for Takeru. Meaning he was given Larvesta and evolved it into Volcarona at level 59 (quite the feat) but at the same time Miyu was given Delibird an ice/flying type that can’t evolve as Iron Bundle is the only water type future paradox Pokemon. And that just doesn’t feel as impressive or immediate show of growth as the boys. I want her to be important (unlike the plot….)

And don’t get me started on the problems with the two electric irons not being based on electric type pokemon. Jin and Lighting are ruining my ascetic.

So since this route only works for Yusaku and Ai and Takeru and Flame we’re going to take a different path.

I still like the idea that some of the Ignis created pokemon for their origins to use. But maybe they aren’t based on the pokemon used in the Lost incident.

Instead the kids are each give a pokemon with a single type (I thought about doing Eevees but alas there are no flying or ground type evolutions)

Yusaku gets Absol (everything I said before about Deino just substitute Absol) why because I love Absol. they are a pure Dark type pokemon. And they are the disaster pokemon and I feel that it would make people after the incident avoid Yusaku and play into his loner vibe. Also they are both deeply caring individuals who are deeply misunderstood. Absol sense doom and tries to warn people only to be blamed for “bring” the disaster. Yusaku cares so deeply about people and bonds but is always everyone’s second choices. Cursed to never be the priority. A weapon and hero to everyone but not there first choice of friend. (Kolter has Jin, I think Kolter loves Yusaku like a 2nd little brother but Yusaku can take care of himself Jin can’t. Ryouken has to much guilt and trauma. He picked Yusaku once and it cost him, then he picked his father and rejected Yusaku. He’s getting better but I’m still watching the show. I’m about to meet Takeru and from what I’ve seen he’s the Jesse Anderson of this show and I’m here for Yusaku’s new best friend!!!) They both want to help and will be rejected.

Takeru gets a pure fire type. I haven’t met my boy yet so I need to see his personality to match him as well as I’ve matched Yusaku. But it’s a pure fire type even in evolutions. No multi-typing for the experiment pokemon.

Jin gets Electric which I think will feed into him shutting down so hard. The room zaps him if he loses the baby pokemon he’s stuck with shocks him all the time (not to be mean it’s just a baby that’s learning) but his withdrawal and apathy effect Lightning’s development. (Again I need to learn more about Jin) I’m not saying he hates his partner I think all trainers care deeply for their pokemon but he’s also deeply traumatized and instead of fighting and pushing back, he shuts down.

Miyu gets a pure water

Windy’s origin gets pure flying

And Specter gets a pure Ground type.

Doing it this way leads to another idea. While the Ignis are set to one type of pokemon their origins are not. All of Ai’s pokemon will have a dark type. They can have multi types but they will all be dark. Same with the other Ignis. But the Origins get to diversify.

Mainly because I know every other pokemon on Specter’s team outside of his Lost incident ground type is going to be a grass type (or tree like) pokemon. Little sociopathic tree hugger I see you.

Sorry this was a lot of me dumping ideas that are bopping around in my head. Let me know what yall think. I got a lot of ideas for their teams but I’m still nailing things down.

Sorry I’ve been gone. Life’s been wild.

On another note I’ve been playing pokemon legends of arceus and watching Yugioh Vrains.

Everything in me is thinking about a vrains pokemon au. I will be sharing them as I think through them.

Sorry if this has been talked about before, but how does Jesse slap some sense into Jaden and help the Muto-Kaiba family get back into a happy healthy place? Because that family desperately needs it.

I have brushed on it here and there but never fleshed it out. This is all very fluid and could change once I finish a rewatch of season 3

After Jaden leaves Duel Academy and is traveling the world he’s dodging calls from everyone. He really feels like he doesn’t deserve his friends. That he’s a danger to everyone around him. And feels that no one trusts him or wants him around.

His only consistent points of contact are Joey, the two had a heart to heart. Joey accepted Yubel as part of Jaden and he understand that needed to leave to find yourself thing. He’s the closest to Mai out of the group and he can see a lot of her struggles in Jaden.

The other constant is Yugi. He’s playing mediator between Jaden and Seto. If Jaden doesn’t check in once a week then Seto’s going to launch a manhunt after him. Jaden knows this and checks in once a week. The calls are awkward and stilted as Jaden doesn’t feel he deserves their concern and Yugi is desperately trying to convince his son that he still loves him. But he doesn’t want to be over barring and push Jaden away more so they’re stuck in limbo.

Enter everyone’s favorite crystal boy.

Jesse tried to catch Jaden at Graduation but he missed him. Jesse desperately wants to see his friend again. The last they saw of each other was just after the duel with darkness had finished. Jesse can tell that there is something wrong with Jaden and he wants to help.

They had texted here and there since Jesse went back to North Duel Academy. Jesse tried to chalk up the sporadic texts to the time difference and Jaden being busy but that never felt right. After seeing him again and dealing with Darkness Jesse knows somethings wrong and he wants to help. He feels like he never should have left Duel Academy. At the same time he knows he needed that time to come to terms with everything that happened. Including Jaden fusing with Yubel. Now though he’s ready and he wants to help Jaden

Only for Jaden to leave.

That’s alright Jaden needs space then they can talk.

Except that Jaden’s not answering any of his text or calls. That’s odd. Jaden’s never froze him out before. He knows out of the three transfers Axel talked to him the most after they left but that’s because he was helping with the Darkness situation. Outside of that Jesse got the most social text and calls. Now it’s radio silence. Jesse’s worried.

He reaches out to the others to see if he’s over reacting. Jaden’s gone radio silent with everyone.

That’s not good.

Jesse’s starting to freak out. He got Yugi’s number during the Viper incident incase Jaden got hurt or they needed help and Jaden wasn’t in the position to text or call for help. Jesse knows this isn’t why he was given the number but he doesn’t care. He’s worried that Jaden is dealing with another crisis but this time all alone.

He calls Yugi and learns that Jaden is traveling. But he also learns about the rift in the family. Yugi knows Jaden’s spiraling but also isn’t in a position to help.

Jesse had already decided he wanted to see Jaden again, but now he knows he’s not leaving him again. Jesse packs his bag and asks Yugi where Jaden was heading.

It takes some time to catch up. Jaden’s moving fast and Jesse’s playing catch up but finally Jesse catches up to Jaden.

Jesse finds Jaden right after he deals with a dangerous spirit or spirit hunter (like trapper) and the two just stare at each other.

Until Jesse closes the distance and pulls him into a tight hug.

The two have a long talk. With Jaden trying to convince Jesse that he’s dangerous. That being near him is inviting danger into your life.

Jesse doesn’t care about that. His life is already dangerous. People want the Crystal Beasts and Rainbow Dragon. It’s not like he’s ever going to have a 100% peaceful life.

Jaden points out that his life is far more dangerous and Jesse just shoots back that that’s why someone should be with Jaden. To have his back.

Jaden try’s again to dissuade Jesse. “I’ve put you and your family through hell.”

“No.” Jesse is firm. “You didn’t. You didn’t hurt me in anyway. Jaden you saved us.”

“Jesse I fused with Yubel. Anything they did to you I’m guilt of to.” Jaden can’t imagine Jesse forgiving Yubel and by extension not forgiving him.

Jesse already knew this fact. Syrus told everyone what happened in the final duel. He’s had months to process his feelings about that. “You’re not guilt of what Yubel did before you fused.”

“But-”

“Would Yubel hurt me now?” Jesse takes the risk of asking.

“No.” The answer is immediate. “Yubel will never hurt you again.” Jaden goes to say more but is cut off.

“Because you would never hurt me.” Jesse finishes with a soft smile. “Jay you’d never hurt me or my family. And while it will take time before I’m full comfortable being around Yubel, I know they won’t hurt me again because you won’t let them.”

“I’d never let anything hurt you.” Jaden wants so badly for someone to trust him. “Yubel wouldn’t either. They’re an extension of me, their not corrupted by the Light of Destruction anymore. They won’t hurt anyone I care about.”

“I know. If you say Yubel isn’t dangerous anymore than I trust you. And in time I’ll trust them. Because they are a part of you.” Jesse is so gentle about it. He’s had months to work through his feelings of hurt and a little betrayal at Jaden fusing with Yubel. Now he understands, at least vaguely, why Jaden did it. He can’t be mad at Jaden for saving someone he cared about.

“How can you still trust me. After everything that’s happened.” Jaden doesn’t understand because he feels like he’s betrayed everyone.

“Because I love you.” Jesse says it easily. He had expected this moment to feel grand and earth shattering. To finally admit how he feels. But it’s as easy as breathing and as casual as the weather. He loves Jaden. It’s a fact. Just like saying the sky is blue.

Jaden’s world is rocked. He loves Jesse too. He just didn’t think that Jesse could love him anymore, not after everything.

“You don’t have to say it back. And it’s okay if you don’t feel the same. But I wanted you to know. I trust you because I love you. I think I always have and I know I always will.”

“Jesse.” Jaden cuts him off by laying his hands on his shoulders. “I love you too.” The two look at each other with the stupidest gins on their faces. “Can I kiss you?”

“On one condition.” Jesse says as he raises his own hands to cradle Jaden’s cheeks.

“Name it.” Jaden would give Jesse the world if he asked for it.

“Let me stay with you.”

From then on the two are together, both as traveling companions and as a couple.

There is still a long ways to go. Jesse still flinches the first few times Yubel appears. The Crystal Beasts coming out in force to stand between them and Jesse. Over time their relationship gets better.

Jaden and Jesse have to talk through it. Jesse doesn’t flinch because he’s scared Yubel will hurt them now. But he is heavily traumatized. Yubel ripped his soul from his body. That was painful and horrific. Logically he knows they were corrupted at the time and now they’re not only Jaden’s defender but his as well. But trauma isn’t logical.

Yubel for their part doesn’t dislike Jesse anymore. He is good for Jaden and therefor good in Yubel’s book. And just like one cannot love Jaden without loving Yubel. There is no way for Jaden to love someone without Yubel loving them to. It’s not romantic. But there is mutual respect and in time fondness. Yubel would never let anyone hurt Jesse or his family, partially because they know how hard Jaden will crash out and partially because of the guilt they feel for their own actions towards Jesse.

Jesse’s, love, loyalty, and devotion definitely work wonders for Jaden. He now has a physical reminder that people still love and trust him. That people can accept Yubel and him even after all they’ve done. Jesse was the most injured party in the whole event and his forgiveness means a lot. Even though to Jesse there is nothing for him to forgive when it comes to Jaden.

Jesse is also able to bully Jaden into talking to Yugi more. Jaden is opening up to Jesse about his feeling and the situation with Seto. In turn Jesse is trying to help Yugi explain to Jaden that his parents still love him.

And it’s probably Jesse who convinces Jaden to visit Japan for the first time since he left so that they can see his family. (Probable before the tournament arc)

Now will Jesse maybe chose violence with Seto? Who knows. Seto’s been making Jaden feel like he’s a monster and Jesse’s only getting Jaden’s side. I can see him and Seto getting into a verbal match and maybe duel over the miscommunication. Jesse not understanding how Seto can keep making Jaden feel like a monster. Seto not understanding how, of all people, Jesse isn’t pro-getting-rid-of-Yubel.

They have it out in a duel where Jesse figures out Seto’s just being an over protective dad. And Seto figures out that all of his scheming has just hurting Jaden. All of his plans to make sure Yubel couldn’t hurt them were plans that to Jaden, made him an enemy of the family.

This most likely happens when Jaden’s out of the house. Jesse planned it. Dropping hints to Yugi that he should take Jaden out and reconnect. And telling his boyfriend it would be good for him and his dad. The two are having a lovely time getting burgers and fried shrimp and walking around Domino reminiscing about Jaden childhood and having conversations about Yubel.

Meanwhile: Seto and Jesse are screaming at each other across a dueling field.

“Yubel’s dangerous they could hurt Jaden. How can you not understand that? And you claim you love him.”

“Yubel is part of Jaden! I don’t like it anymore than you do. But they are fused. It was Jaden’s choice and I’m not going to stand here and disrespect him.”

“You’re a fool if you think we can trust that thing.”

“You do realize you’re talking about your son? Everytime you talk about not trusting Yubel your talking about Jaden to.”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“You’re right. I’ve only traveled with them for months how would I know anything about their relationship. Unlike you who has barely talked to your son the whole time we’ve been dating.”

Needless to say, Jaden and Yugi come home to an apologetic Seto. He’s starting to come to terms with the fusion. He at least realizes where his and Jaden’s relationship was damaged and wants to fix that.

This means the world to Jaden. He and his Oto-San have a nice long talk together.

But it doesn’t escape his notice that his boyfriend is a little disheveled and has some scorch marks on his shirt. (Blue eyes was not playing) Nor does it escape that Seto, for all his put togetherness, is just as disheveled and there are definitely claw marks on his shirt sleeves from over sized cats.

Yugi high fives Jesse later while the other two are talking and asks where they dueled. He’s pulling the security tape. He has to see that fight. (Jaden gets to watch it to…later)

After the duel is also when Seto starts to respect Jesse as Jaden’s partner. (I won’t say who won. You can decided that for yourself)

But ya. Jesse is defiantly the thing that snaps Jaden out of his spiral. And then through gentle love and understanding helps Jaden heal until he’s ready to talk to his parents. Jesse’s really doing wonders for this family.
