seeing the title of the storm chaser au . you have no idea how jumpscared i was . i mean it makes sense because we have the most fuckass weather of all time in oklahoma (one time i was in a completely different state and i saw a documentary on tv about the two back to back 2013 tornados . like okay then) and like . I guess people out here just love almost killing ourselves all the time because "hehehe tornado fun" /lh

Hehe… well..

The title comes from one of the songs from the Twisters album!! I actually recommended some of my favorite songs (that I think represent the fic)!!

But yeah, Oklahoma (along with Kansas) is one of the most infamous states for tornadoes! Thats where I spent most my time storm chasing tbh.

And yes, 2013 had some INCREDIBLE storms. Moor and El Reno.

El Reno is absolutely my favorite storm and I got to see Tim Samara’s and the TWISTEX memorial while I was out.

I’d be lying if their story didn’t have some inspirations for Dream in this fic. As well as Reed Timmer and of course both the Twister movies and “Into the Storm.”

Do you have any advice for new writers? Also, out of all the popular fanfic tropes (coffeeshop au, only one bed, soulmates, hanahaki, found family, etc. you can pick more these are just examples) which one is your favorite? And which one would make the best drunz au in your opinion?

Well, White Noise was my first ever fic or even writing project outside of roleplay amongst friends, so I still consider myself a bit of a new writer!

BUT, I can definitely talk about what I learned through the process of writing White Noise!

To get started.. sometimes you just gotta give yourself a push. Even if you’re not entirely happy with the chapter, if it reads generally well and seems grammatically correct then there’s no harm in posting. Sometimes you have to force yourself to post because otherwise you never will.

Make sure you have a clear outline. Even if it only has a few plot points, as long as it shows progress in the story for each chapter and has a clear ending, you’re good. You definitely want to have an ending in mind before starting to post writings so that you have a clear goal to work towards.

Also, I set word count limits for myself. I generally like to be in the realm of 10k for each chapter. I really wanted white noise to be 100k and having that sort of word count allowed for me to add scenes people adored/ go in depth on a lot of things that would have been glossed over if I hadn’t forced my hand on a word count.

Always write a rough draft and edit white you reread. As long as you have the “bones” of the chapter on paper, you’re set. Add and clean up the writing later.

I probably reread each chapter 10+ times before I actually post it (and somehow spelling and grammar errors still slip through the cracks 😒).

Be OK with grammar and spelling errors. You’re not perfect, it’s okay. It sucks, but don’t beat yourself up over minor mistakes that slip through the cracks.

Now, in terms of favorite trope au… Out of the ones listed/ most popular ones, I do love me some hanahaki and soulmate au. I need me some ANGST. I specifically love soulmate aus where someone doesn’t have a soulmate or the person who is their soulmate actually already has another (different) soulmate.

I think.. drunz could work for either of those. I definitely see Punz as being wholly devoted to Dream who is too blinded by his plan to actually see Punz.

Actually, in White Noise it’s the opposite, Dream was in love with Punz before the betrayal, but there was no room for feelings, much less worrying if they were reciprocated. Punz cared for Dream too, but in that au, I wouldn’t say he loved Dream till White Noise actualy happens. He wasn’t as devoted.

I also don’t want to spoil much for storm chaser au.. but very much along the vein of unrequited love. It’s one of my favorite tropes to use. So any AU or trope that perpetuates that is my favorite. lol.
