Important Announcement About J. Antonio Rodriguez’s Absence

A Playbill article was published today, about why J took an extended leave from Hadestown. As he has said before, he’s a Dreamer, which means he was brought to America as a child, without documentation. The program that allows him to work and live here, DACA, requires he renew some paperwork every two years.

It usually takes a couple days to renew, but due to delays (caused both by Trump’s policy changes and an influx of new immigrants to process), he has been waiting for multiple months. He is not the only one.

Until it is renewed, he cannot work or drive. There is no way to know how long renewal will take.

A petition has been made calling for DACA to prioritize renewals that have been pending for over 100 days. Here is the link.

I know you post a lot about queer Hades and Persephone, have you ever written it, or is it more just a headcanon you like?

Well my Hades is always trans and my Persephone is always bi so i guess by default theyre always queer! But as for things that are more explicitly queer, here's what I've written (rather what i've published, I have way more in The Vault ie my google docs):

there was something so interesting about uk hades/persephone that i cant quite put into words except every single action hades made was him poking persephone for any kind or reaction. whenever he said or did anything he would immediately turn to persephone to see if he was looking at him/how she was reacting. when he goes to find eurydice at the end of chant you can SEE that it was out of nothing but spite. like he wanted persephone to call him on his bluff except she never did she he didnt back down. but the one that got me the most was in why we build the wall. when eurydice rises into hadestown persephone looks sick to her stomach and when he delivers the question 'what do we have that they should want?' he looks directly into persephones eyes. afaik this part is usually delivered to eurydice as a way to indoctrinate her into the hadestown lifestyle but by delivering it to persephone it felt like he was saying this is YOUR fault YOU made her come here by not calling my bluff. 'what do WE have that THEY should want' as in what do we hades and persphone have that orpheus and eurydice want....

If youve ever read my Hadestown fics i need you to know that my Hades is always always always trans. Like even if it's not explicitly stated or whatever, that man is a trans man king (or sometimes a trans woman queen or nonbinary monarch). Like I HAVE written Trans Hades Fics Where Him Being Trans Is A Part Of The Plot but also he is trans in every single other fic i've written too. ok I'm word of godding this right now. I dont have any reason for doing this outside of me also being a trans man and thinking Hades is cool.

I really like fictional couples that actually enjoy spending time with each other. It seems like such a simple, mundane thing. But, often, I see fictional couples who are completely enamored and dramatic and willing to die for each other, which is fine. But like… do they enjoy hanging out? Do they have private jokes and would they be friends even if they weren’t in love? It feels like such a basic thing, but it’s something that I actually don’t see that often. And it feels so refreshing and honest compared to these over-dramatic romeo and juliet-esque romances. Just two people who become good friends and because they enjoy each other’s presence so much it grows into a strong attraction. It feels more real and tangible than two attractive people meeting and “falling in love at first sight” - like, of course, you fell in love at first sight! You’re both supermodels! Sorry, can’t relate.
