What are the difficulties of Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek?
Kanchenjunga circuit trek is one of challenging high altitude treks in remote corner of eastern Nepal. It is probably the best “well-kept” secret of Himalayas in Nepal. The trekking trial takes you to the foot of Kanchenjunga (8,586m), the third highest mountain in the world which shares its eastern border with India’s Sikkim and northern to husky Tibet. In Tibetan dialects, the Kanchenjunga means “five great treasures of snow” which refers the spectacular Mountain View that awaits.
The trek enters deep into the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, managed by local communities in partnership with WWF, which is one less-settled area in Nepal. The presence of pristine forest, alpine meadows and high altitude wetlands flourishes the rare snow leopard and red panda, the Himalayan Black Bear, Clouded Leopard and Assamese Macaque.
The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trekking trail is very less explored compared to other region. Trekkers need to access the brief information about the trek before commencing the journey. Here we have tried to point out some difficulties about the trek; so that you can get well-prepared before starting the journey.
1. Altitude
Altitude is the major difficulty of Kanchenjunga Trek. Trekkers need to hike in 4,000m Himalayan terrain averagely for several days. Sometime you may even walk above 5,000m. Kanchenjunga itself is in elevation of 5,143, altitude threat might be the major barrier of the trek. We suggest you acclimatize and rest properly before taking another high step. Also walk in gradual pace and drink sufficient water. Hire a professional guide; he knows well when to start the journey and what to do when someone get victim of altitude sickness.
2. Length
The trek start after your arrival at Taplejunga from Kathmandu. It takes roughly 20 days to Kanchenjunga Base Camp and back to Suketar (a small airstrip in Taplejung). You need to walk for 5 – 6 hours a day which might not be a difficult task for seasonal hikers. But the extremely rough, rocky and steep terrain might challenge you in most part of the trek. Continuous ascend and descend on high ridge and valley might retard even a physically fit trekkers. You also have to cross two high pass. We suggest you to engage on physical training some months prior the journey.
3. Remoteness
As very few trekkers have made their way to Kanchenjunga circuit, it is yet to get flourished by the impact of mass tourism. The area is very remote and there are basic facilities of teahouse along the Kanchenjunga trekking trail. There are no internet connections as you enter in wilder sections. The teahouse serves very basic accommodation and shared toilet. Authentic Nepali cuisine (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner) is the major meal offered by the teahouse followed by some common international cuisine. Don’t expect highly luxurious accommodation and great selection of food menu. Bring your sleeping bag with extra liner for more comfort. Also carry your favorite snacks. Don’t forget to carry toilet paper and sanitary stuffs.

Is it possible to trek Manaslu after earthquake?
Due to big lack of information, many trekkers stayed away from the Manaslu trek after the devastating earthquake April 2015. There was also safety issues of trail and tea-houses until the end of September when 2015 when the monsoon finished. As the rain finally stopped, work continued and restoration program was conducted on speedy manner.
The main issue of Tsum valley with Manaslu trek was the loss of a trail at Yaru which is just before Jagat. It was brushed away completely by the furious movement of river. Then the only option was the trail route via Uija which was dangerous. The 3rd wooden bridge across the river was built which is passable by mules now.
What progress has been made to repair any damages to the area?
While the trail is safe, the Government of Nepal deployed an expert team of engineers to survey the extent of the damage and future damage consequences in case of earthquake. They cleared out everything that may block the trail or cause safety issues to trekkers and locals.
What is the road condition between Kathmandu to Arughat?
The road from Kathmandu to Arughat might be challenging in monsoon season (good in other seasons). However, the government is working to improve the road condition very soon.
Is it safe to trek Manalsu after earthquake?
It is totally safe to trek Manaslu after earthquake. You can further extend your trek to Annapurna circuit and Annapurna Base Camp Trek via safe and well-marked route. Throughout the trekking trail, you will find new and strong teahouses built in perfect locations away from the landslide prone area. To make trek more comfortable and safe, Guide will take you through alternative route.
All the damaged trail route was restored and built perfectly and firmly to block the consequences caused by any unforeseen casualties.
When to trek Manaslu region?
The best season to trek Manaslu region are March to May during spring and September to mid-December during the autumn season. Autumns and spring are known for best weather and excellent views.
We suggest you not to trek Manaslu during Monsoon as the trail will be slippery and there is high risk of avalanches, landslides and flood. But monsoon might be great for keen botanist.
People needs you more than before!
After devastating earthquake, landslide and flood, the plight of Manaslu people is inevitable. There is subsequent reduction in number of tourist after earthquake which means they are struggling very hard to survive as the main profession of the region is tourism. We suggest you to travel the Manaslu region and brings smile on their face.
We ensure you to receive the best hospitality and great experience!!!

Bargain:
What if you get the stuffs, in about half the price, if you bargain? Bargaining in Nepal is popular fashion which you need to start doing to deduct your expenses. Be it the foods, clothes or electrical stuffs, bargaining substantially reduces the price you have to pay. Be noted: too much bargaining is not helpful.
Foods & Accommodation away for touristic place:
Get noted that the touristic place charges twice (may be thrice in peak season). So if you want to stick on budget travel, get way from popular spots, instead get the accommodation and food in neighboring villages which are highly cheap and budget friendly.
Do it yourself (DIY):
The guided tour organized by local tour operator adds certain service charges to this total expenditure which as a result bulks the amount. If you are experienced travelers and know how to cope new environment, you can tour & travel Nepal independently. DIY means no tour service charges, it thus helps you to stick on a budget.
Note: If you are seeking opt for remote places like Tsum valley with Manaslu trek or Makalu Base Camp Trek, we suggest you to go through local trekking agency or least hire a guide and a porter.
Note down daily expenditure
Make the habit to bookkeep your daily expenditure. This helps you to make a proper balance between expenditure and budget. Point out the subject where you spend more and try to minimize it. Noting down the daily expenditure helps you to plan your expenditure according to budget.
Rent the gear instead of buying:
If you are going for trekking, expenditure or any other sort of adventure on Himalaya, we suggest you not to buy the gear. There are many rental shops in Kathmandu and Pokhara, where you can rent the expensive gear in cheap price. For trekking in Annapurna region, you can rent gear in Pokhara, likewise for Everest trekking and Kanchenjunga circuit trek, you can rent the gear in rental shop of Kathmandu.
