Hey! I apologize if someone’s asked this before but I just found your art and was wondering if I could use it (specifically the haelaian(I apologize if I spelled it wrong) art) as a reference for my own avian character? I’m trying to add more emotion to their wings and general expression. I’d be looking at the photo and attempting to recreate the anatomy on paper so no tracing! Just referencing.

Do kid/toddler Haelumians look different form adults/teens?

If they do what differences are there?

Toddlers have feathers that are super soft and not fit for flying, just protecting from the cold, just like baby birds

as they grow older their feathers molt into shinier, velvet-ish(?) feathers up until 17/18 years old, when they stop growing and just molt twice a year :)

Is there a planned release date for the comic? And in what kind of bookstores (and others) will it be published?

No planned date, we're self publishing this one! It's probably gonna be readable online for free and if people like it we might start printing and selling physical copies.

This is a 13 years old passion project and I'm really trying to find the time to start working on it. We have thumbnails ready and pretty much all concept art is done now, we just need to find the time to work on it :)

the "H" is silent, so it's AE-LU-MIAN

Though haelumians do add a lil bit of that h in the beginning because their language is very growly and hissy if that makes sense.

Technically an hybrid between a human and an haelumian cannot survive birth. They're folkore in haelumian culture and are considered bad omens (they call them "phàlem")

Yes! they are in fact on the brink of extinction with only few remaining groups known to still exist.

Do haelumians have children the same way humans do or do they lay eggs?

They have pregnancies just like humans!

A female Haelumian pelvis is much narrower than a human woman though, which means they can't really have many children in their lifetime (just one child on average).

Twins or even triplets can happen, but are extremely rare. A difficult birth can also create some health problems to the mother, such as chronic back pain and limping.

i just found these guys and i love them so much oh my gosh

i was wondering though, is there a reason they have human-like hands instead of front paws/claws? since they walk on all fours and hands are less suited for that

I'm gonna be extremely honest with you: Haelumians, anatomically speaking, don't make any sense lol

Gheritan (my haelumian oc) was the product of 13 year old me slapping all the things I liked at the time into one single character (I was obsessed with birds and still am).

over time his design has become less cluttered but I've never worked hard into making it "anatomically correct", otherwise I think I would've gone for a more "animal-like" appareance.

I also use haelumians to trick myself into praticing what I can't draw very well In this case: hands! but also anatomy

so yeah they're just little creatures I enjoy drawing in my freetime but the human features make me feel less gulity about staying in my comfort zone for too long ;)

Dude I’m gonna be honest, when I saw that your Haelumians could stand in their tails for an attack I was like, “Oh that’s a little unrealistic”, but I didn’t care or anything because, y’know, it’s a fake species anyways and creative freedom -nd allat. So apparently kangaroos CAN IN FACT stand on their tails??? Like that’s a Real Thing?? AND DO THAT SAME ATTACK??? And I had NO IDEA?????

Ahah yeah I took inspiration from Kangaroos :D

A lot of people on Pinterest pointed out that the tail is too thin for that though and I 100% agree with it, so I'm probably gonna make it thicker.
