I've noticed a lot of smiles used when people try to make images unnerving. I think that's because "smile" is actually a snarl in many cases, and also for uncanny valley or something, but does anyone have an actual explanation? CW for body horror under the cut (examples)

Last night, trying to fall asleep, I realised that cringe is a made up thing. 

Age groups find different things cringeworthy. Kids don’t even really care. What was popular 2 years ago might get some bombastic sideeyes. Nowadays, everything could be considered cringe. Think about the last time you were told that “it’s not that deep.”

Humans are a social species, yes, but with the internet connecting millions, it’s hard to not feel like you are under 24/7 supervision and relax from holding up a social image, even with people close to you, or alone.

I also have problems with the phrase “cringe culture is dead”. It very much is still alive, but that’s not my gripe, since we should stop judging people for stuff that doesn’t even harm anybody. However, by bringing “cringe culture” up, you are basically saying that something would be cringe if the cringe culture was alive.
