University volleyball is wild. Like you could be playing with a kid that's a total doofus and then you talk to him and find out he's doing his Masters in Computer Engineering.

New year, new me, but I’m still on the same old shit
Tumblr media
I originally registered us as yOu ShOuLd HaVe CoMe To ShIrAtOrIzAwA but I guess their software wasn’t having that.
I’ll be rocking my Hinata cosplay to the event. Even bought an orange hair spray
so i was chosen as a captain of my volleyball team and that went just about as well as you would expect

My new team let my 5′3″ ass play middle blocker again this year, in the highest league our intramurals offer. Even tho I’m still pretty much the shortest on the team. I started lifting weights and can jump higher. I touch balls a lot more often when I block now... Maybe I should start a volleyspo blog 😂
MB is a cursed position, barely know any girls who want to play it. On my team of 8 other people, we have 5 left spikers and 3 setters.

So our new volleyball team name for this term is “Slap That Pass”, and I had to use the full extent of my linguistic education including the International Phonetic Alphabet and the mechanics of physically forming the sounds in your mouth to explain that yes, under certain conditions, you can pronounce “pass” so that it rhymes with “ass”.

hey I'm really sorry if you get this question a lot- but where did you get your Hinata jersey??? I really want to get one!!
Actually didn't get this question yet! I found it on FB Marketplace. I'm not the type to buy merch or fan stuff, but I was looking for random cosplays to wear for the upcoming con here in Vancouver and I found the jersey for $15, I couldn't not buy it :D

So those of you who have been with me for a while know I’m working on a project to video-adapt @rkoradiopictures tumblr post on haikyuu dub fancast since... August? Yeah I’m still making small steps and I will get the project done even if it takes the year. To shorten the wait, this is Kuroo dubbed by Mike Meyers I just finished.

Hi. Happy new year! I have a question to ask : when there is such a big power gap in the team, how do we go about trying to mingle with them? Just having a hard time being part of the team.
TL;DR it be like that sometimes, think of the good of the team, keep training
I really empathize with your situations. I was on both sides on this equation and it is not pleasant on either. I’ll assume it’s a competitive situation or at least there are some stakes – it’s not just pastime with friends. The answer to this may not please you but I don’t want to pull wool over anyone’s eyes.
You need to see things from the team’s point of view. If you want the best for the team and not just for yourself, you yourself will recognize the situations and matches when you need to step down and let the more experienced teammates handle the situation. They will appreciate it. This only becomes a problem
However, if you yourself are aware of this and act accordingly, it shouldn’t put a strain on your relationship with the team. If there is a power gap, keep improving. Ask your teammates for help, techniques, pointers etc. to show them you are interested in growing as a player and not being the hole in defense.
I’m not sure how big of a power gap you’re talking but it is a possibility you’ll always be the weak link, even if you train a lot. I don’t want to discourage you from training, and do continue playing if you enjoy it, but volleyball is a sport where your physique can give you an enormous advantage, and it’s as unfair as everything else in the world.
Since I got many questions like these lately, I went around and asked many ex-club players of all levels on how it was for them. They all say the same thing – they were in the club for the whole time and some of them never got off the bench. They continued practicing because they enjoyed the volleyball but they realized that’s what’s best for the team even if it was frustrating to no end to them.
It was like that for me too at first, even though I literally learned volleyball in an open gym where all levels are welcome. Sometimes I would wander on the court for a higher level game than I was ready for, and I could see the side looks the guys shared. I felt bad for being on the court. I was the sand in the cogs, ruining the smooth game. It actually made me play worse because I felt I was being silently judged for every mistake I made. However I persevered and kept training and got good enough to not be a nuisance on the court and suddenly these people started being more tolerant and friendly towards me.
On the other hand, to offer some perspective, I recently found myself on the other side, and I have to tell you, it’s even worse than being the noob on the team. Having been the noob for a very long time myself, I really sympathize with them, I know it’s really hard, especially mentally. I play a mid-level school league, which we did abysmally in last year. I was voted the best female player on that team when I have just begun playing volleyball 3 months ago; that’s how bad we were. But after careful planning, we gathered the good people from the team and recruited new, better players. Everything was working out, but boom, one guy added his friend from the old team without consulting anyone, even though she was easily the weakest player. And the damage was done, you can’t just tell her sorry, we’re building a stronger team to play a better game, because she was already in and we were friends. And it only got worse. And you have to smile, and cheer for her on the 10% of the passes she gets and dommai her on the rest, because you KNOW how she’s feeling, you know she’s as frustrated at herself as you are, you have to cheer her through it even though she just let go an easy pass after a long rally because she doesn’t have the experience needed to play on a team of this caliber but insists on being on the court.
I was like her a year back. Putting yourself against challenging opponents will help you grow as a player, but you need to find the fine line of where it is actually detrimental to the team as a whole. If you continue improving, your teammates will notice, but always keep the greater good of the team as a priority (you know, assuming your teammates aren’t assholes).
I hope I didn’t sound patronizing and harsh, I’m trying to keep a realistic outlook.

Sorry for the absence but I’m taking a social media break. I was never really into social media and the constant updating was kinda pulling me in ways I didn’t want it to. For now I want to focus on my YouTube creations and especially school and searching for a full time job. Not to mention I haven’t ready any chapter since 375 and tumblr is full of spoilers, so I’ll be gone at least until I catch up (but since S4 is coming out in 8 days I will definitely feel the need to crawl out of my hole and yell about Haikyuu again)
