You know what's the worst?
They ruined so many people's favourite character - Five Hargreeves.
The character that we all loved and cherished would never hurt his brother by s-k-r-e-w ing his wife, would never suggest to abandon his family to play house in an alternate timeline, would never again abandon his family to run away in a magic subway train just because his girlfriend broke up with him to be with her husband.
Five Hargreeves would never choose himself over his family for whom he fought and saved 3 timelines.
They messed up man. They messed up my favourite character so bad 😔

what’s messed up is the emphasis on what a fuck up / loser diego was. without his super powers he has no aim/decades of training disappeared. he’s so bad at adjusting to normal life he can’t even deliver packages without being the worst employee. he pisses in bottles and complains about his in laws and gets bored living in suburbia. the fat jokes. but he was TRYING. he was HONEST. he pulled lila aside multiple times asking how they could fix things, what he could do, trying to impress her and trying to be the man he thought she wanted (the version she met). the show tried to paint him as such a cringe fail when it was really the people who would betray someone they supposedly loved

I acknowledge that the season was cut almost in half so I should really cut them some slack but I WON'T, SO:
Plot holes/Forgotten Stuff in TUA:
(some of these are mostly just unanswered questions)
-Sloane?? Where tf did she go?
-Why was Jennifer (in the original timeline) in a cage? In Moldova?? Like, was she discovered to have something ( the dimaldo stuff whatever) inside of her, so they wanted to test on her? if she never came into contact with marigold before ben then why would they? WHAT
-also wait how the fuck did she get that stuff in her anyway? How did the dimaldo get to earth after it caused the end of Reginald's home planet? Like,,,shouldnt we know that?
-Her,,,in a squid??? she was Inside a giant squid? W h a t
-the S3 post credits of ben in the train. sure, whatever, that means nothing LMAOO
-I also can't get over - Five explaining "oh yeah when we do this EVERY ALTERNATE TIMELINE is gonna be destroyed, leaving only what should've been - the original," and lila fighitng to put her family in the train station,,,All the other timelines will be destroyed??They're dying and being reborn/reincarnated in the new one anyway GIRL WHAT ARE YOU DOING
(unless ive highly misunderstood that which is likely)
-this isnt a plot hole just - five "trying desperately over and over again to save his unhelpful family who he loves very very much" being literally turned into,,,that. did someone say character assassination?
-lila and five. thats a plot hole in and of itself I DONT CARE if he's aged 12 years from season 3, (6 yr timeskip at beginning of season, then 6 technically 7 in teh train), I DONT CARE IF HES 25 NOW, I DONT CARE IF HES MENTALLY 60 SOMETHING. Lila met and spent time with him when he looked like THIS
THATS A CHILD. and clearly, the family had SOME contact in the 6 yr skip, so she WATCHED HIM GROW UP from 13 - 19, like thats just so WEIRD WHAT
this was supposed to be plot holes and just turned into me being pissed im sorry but HOW DO YOU FUCK UP AN ENDING THIS BAD??

As I’m trying to come to terms with whatever the fuck that was, I’ve decided that:
Seasons 1 and 2 are peak. Absolute masterpieces. Canon.
Season 3 can be taken or left. Has its moments, but overall not as good as the first two. Canon, but only if you want it to be.
Season 4 is a fucking crack fic written at 2am that the author rereads at a later date and decides to delete. Absolutely not canon.

The first thing Klaus took from that box was Dave’s dog tags and they just don’t talk about it. Viktor has trouble committing to relationships and this problem is not further elaborated upon. Ray’s abandonment is used as a dig against Allison. Luther seems to have given up searching for Sloane and only mentions her once. Diego and Lila are not content with family life and an unnecessary love triangle is formed between them and Five. The writers absolutely had no interest writing captivating personal drama or stakes for the Hargreeves in their final season.

to be honest, the ending wasn't my problem. it's not a horrible way to end a show that has primarily been about a dysfunctional but loving family trying and failing to stop the apocalypse. having that family die to save the world but die together and willingly and in the end be reincarnated (ish?) as flowers under the same tree, i think that's really beautiful in a way. it's the details that fuck with me. five and lila are an insane choice, no resolution for sloane, everyone kind of just fucking off and having stories with no payoff that don't actually build to anything, ray just walking out, etc. like the last few minutes weren't the worst, it's really just everything leading up to those moments that were at best highly questionable

actually I will say something about this:
setting up a romance line but waiting until one of the actors is a freshly legal adult before executing it is creepy, actually, especially when the co-star is 15 years older

See, if they REALLY NEEDED to do the whole Lila Five thing they could've still done it and have it be meaningful, well received, and important to Fives character by simply making it one-sided. Five could've fallen in love with Lila in those seven years, but never acted upon it because 1) it's his brothers wife and 2) she doesn't feel the same way. This could result in multiple emotional arcs for Five where he realises that there are things in this world he can't control. He's always so used to being able to go back and change time and timelines to bend to his will, but this time, he just let's it go. He realises that fate is fate, he can't change that and THATS OKAY. He would also realise that he has severe attachment issues due to feeling like his father abandoned him as a child, and also feeling like he abandoned his siblings as a child, and try and work on that in the future.
And, most importantly, he wouldn't have betrayed his brothers trust. He would let Lila go because he KNOWS Diego loves her, and, no matter how attached he's grown to her, he would sacrifice his love for his brother any day.
Then Diego could've found out, and felt betrayed, but then Five could reassure him and tell him that there is nothing in this world more important to him than his family, and therefore he would never act upon his feelings. This way, fans could sympathize and maybe even relate to five, he would become an even bigger fan favorite due to his selflessness, and it would do his character some good.
But...that's not what we got. We got Five being a homewrecker, Lila being a cheater, Diego being betrayed by the people he loves the most, Lila being a predator, and a complete character assassination of Five Hargreeves that ultimately added nothing to the plot.

DON'T WITH ME. FORGET THIS. THEY COULD HAVE TREATED HIM WORSE THAN TRASH!!!
Let's talk about how badly the Hargreeves treat Diego. In the first season it was comical because Diego was annoying in a way with the hero thing. But in the second season they crossed the line. Diego was always there for his siblings, listening to their problems and helping them as he could with it.
In the first season Diego helped Klaus with the drug and Dave issue, even if Klaus wasn't very open about it, he knew his brother was bad and didn't let it go.
In season two he also spends his time listening to the problems of others, Luther, Viktor, Elliot, but the moment he decides to open up to his brothers and talk about Lila, they give him a look of disgust and are glad when the conversation is interrupted.
Add to that the whole "team zero" thing, which in my opinion is unnecessary but he was very enthusiastic about it because he wanted to see his family reunited, and the way no one said anything when Reginald kicked his pride. Auch that was really painful.

The fact Reginald didn't have Allison rumour Viktor as 'You think you're normal' or 'You think you don't have powers' but instead went with 'You think you're ordinary' is so insidious.
Because it didn't just affect Viktor's belief around his powers, it affected his whole world view. You can't excel in anything if you think you are in no way special or distinct. He had the talent to be first chair (yes his power helped but his power couldn't make bad playing appear good, he still had to play well) but he didn't believe he did and so was stuck at third chair. Even in teaching he talks himself down when Harold compliments him, saying his next student could probably teach him (but if that were the case why would that student's parents not just get another violin tutor?). It's also part of why he falls under Harold's spell, because he's ordinary and along comes this guy who seems great and thinks he's special, something Viktor literally cannot believe he is because of the rumour, so how can he not be won over by that attention?
I also believe this was completely intentional, because believing he is in no way special, coupled with being numbed by his medication ensures he will be a docile child and easily manipulated. Seeing as Reginald didn't predict the siblings would leave as adults, he had intended to control Viktor his entire life.

The other thing is about Charlie's deceased boyfriend, who we are told stopped eating to the point of death. My sister points this out to me as an important point to remember later and, when she makes the big revelation, she tells me that Charlie "catched" the opposite disease...I know she maybe didn't mean that, but it really bothered me.
