December Meeting

Our December, Christmas Gift-Giving Meeting will be on Monday, December 30 at 7:00 PM at the Sobeys on Mumford Road.

Here’s how the gift exchange works:

Everyone who wants to participate (and it’s voluntary) brings one or more items of a magic-related nature. That’s a pretty broad area. Items can include tricks, books, DVDs, utility devices, magic accessories, decorative pieces, etc. There should be some connection to the world of magic. Anything from $5 or $10, or more if you want, or if you have some things that you may not want anymore.

Wrap up the item(s) or put it in a bag so that its identity is not revealed. Write up a blurb about the item as if it was something you’d read in a magic catalogue or online ad. In other words, be creative and feel free to puff it up and exaggerate it to a degree. But do not reveal in your writeup exactly what it is. Leave it open to guess work.

At the meeting, a name of a club member will be drawn at random. That person must perform a trick and will then be allowed to select any of the secret gifts. He will then draw a name of a club member and that person will repeat the process – perform, choose a gift, pick a name – until all gifts have been distributed.  You cannot choose a gift that has already been chosen.

Join Us

Members of the Halifax Magic Club run the gamut from beginner to seasoned professional. Some of us do TV shows and corporate events, some of us do birthday parties and family gatherings, some of us do ticketed public shows, and some of us only perform for family and friends.

We meet once a month and the meetings generally consist of informal discussions about all things magic, followed by an opportunity for everyone to perform something they’re working on, or raise a question or discussion point to the group. 

Once a year, we have a magic auction where members can sell magic books, videos, and props they no longer need.

Twice a year, once in winter and once in summer, we have a public magic show at the Bus Stop Theatre.

Most years, we have one or two guest lecturers come to teach us something we don't know. Past lecturers include Joshua Jay, Francis Menotti, Gazzo, Gregory Wilson, and Jorg Alexander.

Come on out and meet us! There’s no pressure to perform if you don’t want to.

You are welcome to come to a meeting or two without becoming a member. Members of the magic club pay $30 a year in dues, which allows the club to pay for guest lecturers, and to rent a theatre for our twice annual shows.

Club Show on August 22

On August 22nd, Halifax's magic club will have a show at the Bus Stop Theatre!

Tickets are Pay What You Can.

Doors open at 7 pm, the show starts at 7:30.

Come out one and all to another mystical magical showcase in cooperation with Terra Novella Theatre and the magicians of Halifax’s magic club, the Conjurers' Court.

Get out of the heat and into the magic while Halifax’s finest professional and hobby magicians amaze, bewilder and surprise you. We want everyone to feel welcome here so Tickets will be Pay What You Can at the door.

Bring your friends and family and make sure to get here early to grab a seat. Children are allowed to attend although the magic is not targeted at the young ones.

There will be a fantastic bar available for refreshments as well.
