God, being Will Treaty in his 40s or whatever age he and Alyss get to pre Royal Ranger and. Just the kind of magic of you made it in a way that tiny Will in the ward would never have believed. A boy who never felt at home, who lived like he had a bomb waiting to go off in the Choosing and not being a knight, and now you're a man and you're so so so loved. You have friends across continents. You're so loved that your best friend all but ends the war you father died in, for you and his future wife. Enters single combat expecting to die, specifically for both of you.

Also the magic of Rangers in the books are almost outside of the class issues in a lot of the rest of it - very privileged but deeply connected to the common people around them, and based on the land. Will being a hero directly to the kind of people his parents were, despite never having met them. Will who knows how to cook, how to live rough, who appreciates a local inn and pint, who can talk about winter prep with the farmers.

And for a boy who thought he was never home, having Redmont fief love him. Welcome in the town and in the castle, with a wife he loves and a father a short ride away.

for the longest time i believed that Ranger's Apprentice is just one of those book series that does not have a fandom. wherever I looked, there was nothing. people woupd recognise the books, but it was never to the same fan extent as books like Percy Jackson etc. but I'm so happy that this fandom actually does exist and I'm so happy I stumbled upon it on here, even if it is very small. love you guys 💚

Since I don't think I can physically stop thinking about them here's another Haltine situation.

So it's night. They're in bed. Normal times. But Halt has a nightmare. It's not any nightmare caused from trauma or anything like that, but it's just a random nightmare where Pauline dies in it or something. Maybe she dies horrifically, or maybe it's just really slow and painful for her. Maybe in his dream it's a situation where he could have saved her, but wasn't fast enough. Either way she dies, it sucks, and the dream feels super real to the point where he wakes up in the brink of panicking because he thinks she's actually dead.

Then he calms down when he sees she's right next to him and realizes none of it was real. Hes still freaking out and trying to get the idea of it out of his head but he doesn't want to wake Pauline up over something that he thinks is stupid like a nightmare. So instead he just goes real close to her and just hugs her super tightly until he falls asleep again.

Pauline does end up waking up at some point and sees he's just got his arms around her waist and pretty much death gripping her but she doesn't mind at all. She loves it and just hugs him back.

Those two would fucking die holding each other if they could.

Lately, I've been thinking that I'd like to see more interaction between Crowley and Cassandra. It always seems to me that there's an uncle-niece warmth in their dynamic. I mean, Cassandra was literally born into Crowley's hands. Her mother entrusted her to Crowley to take her away and protect her, and he traveled for almost a day with a newborn baby. It feels like a warm connection developed between them later on as well.

Like, after the war, Cassie, who is around 4 or 5 years old, is walking around the palace, and when she sees Crowley, she smiles at him, waves, and runs to hug him. It's not hard to imagine that as she grew older, they occasionally took walks together in the garden, chatted, went hunting together in secret, and Cassandra would come to his room to gossip with him about the annoying things that happened that day. And at the end of the day, Crowley cant believe how quickly the baby in his arms had grown.

Will and Horace plus the time lapse. I like to think they sometimes get days off and drink at a tavern or something together. So I kinda wanted to capture that vibe of lighthearted headed to the tavern to tell stupid jokes and disappoint halt (whos just jealous hes too old to do those things)

Halt and Will’s reunion in b4 always gets to me. Will literally had zero hesitation running up and hugging him. I know Will sometimes struggles with impulse control (especially in these earlier books), but still. Zero hesitation, no ‘is that really you?’ moment. He saw arrows coming from the trees and went “that is Halt and I know it because he is my mentor and he promised he would find me” 😭

Also. Everything leading up to this moment has been underlining how brave Will is. He killed the Kalkara, he and Evenlyn burned Morgarath’s bridge, hell, his warmweed addiction was a result of him trying to defend another slave. He is heroic to a legendary degree. But in this moment, I’m very bluntly reminded he really is just a kid.

Whatever you do don't think about Caitlyn after Halt's supposed death. Don't think about her standing where she thinks he drowned, sobbing and begging for him to return. Don't think about her going semi-mad with grief and Ferris hiding her away. And don't think about her whispering stories of Halt in little Sean's ear, willing herself not to forget his eyes, his voice, his spirit.

Somedays, it seems she's the only one still hanging onto the firstborn prince of Clonmel.

Theory: Rangers are taught to never have one distinct handwriting in order to never be traceable. Their handwriting changes every single time.

I like the idea of that even though Will doesn't fully believe the whole "rangers are evil sorcerers", or "rangers arent human" thing, he also didnt fully disbelieve it whrn he first started training because he had grown up around people who told him that.

So then when he's just living with Halt he's scared and nervous and stuff, and when Halt does literally anything that shows he's a human, even things that no one thinks about usually, like being tired, or being frustrated over small things or just fucking relaxing or having special little autistic interests outside of ranger shit, you know, normal fucking things, Wills just like 😱.

He's just like "what do you mean this scary forest cryptid of a man can feel things? What do you mean he's human and a normal person? I don't believe you.
