There is currently a crowdfunding campaign active for a Japanese indie otome game called Monomagia Cantabile!
They have a stretch goal for an English translation at 5M JPY. As of this post, they have made 2,293,000 JPY.
"Hotaru, a young girl with an old playing card she found in her grandfather's room, is transported to another world called Eden and wakes up in the laboratory of a young man called Jet. Jet, a suspicious young man, says that in order for Hotaru to return to her original world, she needs to go to meet a person called the Creator who lives in a place called the White Country at the farthest end of Eden.
In order to return to her original world, Hotaru embarks on a journey to the White Land with Jet, whom she met in the Yellow Country...
During her journey, Hotaru meets six young men. There were five nations in Eden: yellow, red, green, blue, and white. Apparently, in Eden, there are problems between the countries. Faced with problems between various people and countries that arise in this world, and sometimes in love, the girl moves towards the fate imposed on her."
You can view and contribute to the campaign here!
(Scroll down a bit for the English version.)
EDIT: There is now a short English demo available for Windows! You can download it here.

There is, I think, no arguing that contemporary genre art has a character distinct from previous decades. I also think that while there are big shifts in aesthetics somewhat aligning with each decade of the 20th century, here in the 21st things have definitely slowed down — I feel like the look of genre art has fossilized somewhat in the last 20 years. I don’t have a good explanation for why. Sometimes I wonder if I’m blinded by nostalgia, and that there really aren’t any obvious objective differences at all.
Worlds Beyond Time: Sci-Fi Art of the 1970s (2023) is a compelling argument, I think, that there ARE definite differences. The book, by Adam Rowe (and spinning out of his social media accounts dedicated to, well, ’70s science fiction art) looks at both artists and thematic categories of art from the period, mostly from paperback covers, and offers commentary and historical context in the text. The result is startling: a body of work by a variety of artists working in their own styles that nevertheless seems visually unified. With the exception of a couple outliers, this stuff all feels of the ’70s. The fact that there are some inclusions from both the ’60s and ’80s makes this even clearer.
I think the most interesting thing about this is how bizarre some of the ’70s art seems to be. A lot of these artists appear to be entirely off the leash, delivering work they WANTED to produce rather than what they were directed to produce (you can see a shift toward clearly pairing the cover art with the content of the book in the later part of the decade). There was also more money in the work, then, so speed wasn’t quite so big a part of the equation as it is now.
And, greater questions of genre art aside, Worlds Beyond Time is still a mesmerizing collection, worthy of your time even if you just want to feed pictures to your eyeballs.

#I was the winged fairy girl at this point during a big battle #someone sliced me right down the front through my corset and dress #it was inspired I think by that fight in Zorro between Zorra and Elena #except NOT flirty dude was trying to kill me and sliced a wound down my chest #not super deep but still #and then this other guy#the one in the drawing #defected from the enemy side killed the other dude and very distressed tried to help me #which involved a very funny moment of him pulling my hands back to see the wound and realising my corset had been cut clean through #and us both getting extremely embarrassed and him pulling the corset back together and telling me to keep pressure on it #literally the most YA romantic comedy moment I've ever experienced

Ok, so I had this dream last night right? And it was mostly nonsensical and weird and silly, but there was this moment...
