STRANGER THINGS AU: REVISED

CHAPTER 2

The next day, after the rink o mania incident Mike walked over to El and Max who were standing by their lockers talking.

“Hey Max!” he greeted happily. “Uhm.. sorry about Lucas you know… last night…”

“Hey,” she said plainly “Dont worry about that though we actually were about to leave, right El?” she said turning over to her friend

“Riiight,” she said and there was an awkward silence

“Haha yeah.. so what movie did you guys watch last night?” he asked trying to loosen up the tension

“Movie?” Max said confusingly, completely forgetting the lie she told yesterday

“Oh I thought you said you were leaving for movie night?”

“Oh!… Right uhm…” she turned to El

“Thelma & Louise!” she blurted out

“Oh never seen it”

“Of course you haven’t, you’re a man” Max said almost jokingly but also kind of serious. Mike just nervously laughed. There was again some weird tension in the air that El had to break by saying something.

“Hey Mike actually… Wanna come over to my place tomorrow? You’re in our science so we can study for the big test maybe? Hang out with me and Max? I mean you and Max are friends but we never all hang out together so it would be cool right?”

Mike felt his heart starting to beat through his shirt. El was asking him to come over to her house. She actually knows he exists. Well, of course hes a mutual friend of hers sorta through Max which is why she was inviting him but shes never acknowledged him really.

“Yeah!” he exclaimed with a little too much enthusiasm “I mean like… sure if thats cool with you... I got no plans so… ” he said looking over to Max

“Yeah no thats great..” Max said to him and smiled, a little dryly.

Max obviously was cool with Mike but part of her was a little angry and jealous she was inviting someone else especially a guy to hang out with them. It was always just them. Why did she suddenly even care about Mike anyway?

“Okay! Awesome! Max can text you the details sometime today. See ya later!” she said as the bell rang and the girls headed off to their class. Mike smiled to himself as he watched El walk off. This is actually happening he thought

Chrissy walked into the band/cheer locker room and saw Nancy was with Robin rubbing her back as she was getting her band clothes ready for practice.

"Hiii Robin!" she said enthusiastically then looked over to Nancy “Oh I’m sorry, Are you a new band student? Cause this is the lockerroom for the band and cheer team only” she smirked

Nancy’s face got a little hot and she looked at Robin

“Oh uh.. Chrissy this is Nancy, my girlfriend. Don’t worry she’s got to take her little brother home anyway she was just helping me get my bags down!”

Nancy smiled “Yeah I’m sorry, I’m leaving right now. It’s nice to meet you though!” she said reaching her hand out which Chrissy rejected

“Yeah, well have a good night, Nancy” she said with a forced smile that Nancy could tell was not genuine

“Thanks you too” she replied softly even though she could tell the girl hated her for some reason

She then turned to Robin to exchange a quick kiss before leaving.

After Nancy left Chrissy spoke out, “You and Nancy huh? I’m surprised I thought she was with Steve. Last I heard at least”

“Oh no umm actually she never even dated him. Just a rumor.” Robin awkwardly laughed

“Oh? Interesting..” she said.

The girls finished getting ready and headed to the gym for practice. Chrissy had a plan.

Max: I made this gc since Mike doesn’t have ur number El

Max: What time should we come over?

Mike: Hi! Its Mike😇😁😝

Mike: Whats the address? 😂😎 So I know where to go! 😜

Max: Mike stop typing like a freak

Mike: oh right sorry

El: lmaooo

El: yall can come over around 6pm? my mom is taking my brother out so the house will be empty for us to study

Mike: cool sounds good

Max: great. mike i’ll pick u up so ur dumbass doesn’t get lost

El haha’d a message

Mike: Thanks Max 🙄

After school, Will waited patiently outside the AV club for an hour for Mike to come out. The clock ticks down the seconds 55… 56… 57… 58… 59… annnnd it’s finally 4:00. Will watched the door creek open and the members come out one by one. Finally, Mr. Clark comes out and closes the door. Wheres Mike? he thought.

“Uh… Mr. Clark… Is Mike here?” he shyly said trying to make sure none of the other boys heard or noticed him

“Oh Hello Will. No, Mike was not here today. Is there anything I can help you with?”

“Oh… no sorry, I just… was supposed to give him something for an assignment for another class uh its okay though thanks” he lied and turned around but somebody else had heard him

“Mikes not here because he went home early for a doctor’s appointment. Shouldn’t you know that, stalker?” the boy snarked

He turned around. Of course, it was Lucas Sinclair.

“I- I- I-… its… not like that I just…” he was fighting back tears while his entire body was shaking

“Yeah? Whats it like then?” he continued while Will stood there frozen trying to think of something

“I just… it was El! She wanted me to ask Mike about Max but its fine she’ll probably just tell him herself whenever she sees him” he quickly said without even thinking

fuck why did he lie, lucas is for sure going to bring it up to Mike and she’ll find out…

Lucas quickly got tense after hearing Max’s name

why would El have Will ask Mike for her when they aren’t friends and what could it possibly be about Max?

“Okay whatever just leave Mike alone” he said and walked off

It’s a cycle of jealousy. Lucas likes Max, but she likes El. Will likes Mike but he likes El. It’s always El.

“Heyy!” El greeted Mike and Max at the door “my mom and brother just went out so its nice and quiet for us to study” she smiled showing Mike in, since Max obviously already knew her way around

“Thanks for inviting me!” he said as he took his shoes off to the door

“Yeah of course” she smiled

They sat at the kitchen table and worked on their science. Mike kept losing focus while staring at El. She was so beautiful like the spring, the way it arrives after the long cold winter and brings warmness, light, and life back to the world. Everything about her reminded him of fields of yellow flowers. She was the human embodiment of sunshine. He noticed the way her long brown hair fell in soft waves and how her brown doe eyes lit up when she smiled and when she laughed. How could she be so… perfect?

Max definitely noticed the way he looked at her. After their evening in the car she asked him, “Do you like El?”

“What? Like El? What do you mean?” he got defensive

“I saw the way you were looking at her. I mean you didn’t do a good job hiding it.”

“I… No, I mean I don’t know. Like yeah shes cool and all. I ..” he got all flustered. Of course he liked El. How could anyone not?

“Well don’t worry your secret is safe with me. I’m not going to tell her for you”

Mike smiled and nodded appreciatively. He didn’t think there was any chance El would like him back. But maybe he was wrong.

MEET THE CHARACTERS:

El (jane) Hopper: her parents died when she was a baby and she was adopted by joyce byers, her best friend is max, she is very loved by everyone

Max Mayfield: lives with her mom, her brother billy died last summer, has a crush on her best friend, el, kinda friends with mike but hates lucas because of what happened last summer

Lucas Sinclair: on the basketball team, has been best friends with mike since 1st grade, bisexual, in love with max and mike but mainly max

Mike Wheeler: has a crush on el, a bit of a loser despite lucas being pretty popular, very oblivious to wills feelings, straight but flirts with lucas

Will Byers: FAGGGOTTT!!!! deeply obsessed with Mike and stalks him, bullied, probably has autism

Jonathan Byers: doesn’t appear much because hes away at school in califorina but will make subtle appearances, had an on & off situationship with Nancy before he left the state

Nancy Wheeler: bisexual, in a relationship with robin (got with her after jonathan left), writer

Robin Buckley: lesbian, in band, works at Scoops Ahoy with Steve but cant stand him

Steve Harrington: Evil and manipulative, would do anything to get what he wants, hooked up with Nancy once and thinks shes in love with him but she lowkey only did it to get back at jonathan during their on and off thing

Chrissy Cunningham: lesbian, cheerleader, has a crush on robin, lowkey evil

**Note: other characters may be mentioned but wont have a big role or impact on story**

**Note: dates on tweets aren’t important so ignore those, but there will be flashbacks which will be specified when they occur**

CHAPTER 1

Lucas: hey mikeee wanna go to mania tonight??

Mike: Uh I guess but why you never wanna go there

Lucas: so ur coming? cool meet me there at 8:30

Mike: 🙄

Lucas: els gonna be there

Mike: I never said going was a bad idea!

Max and El arrive at the rink. The girls skate and giggle for a bit before the boys arrive. “I hate it here can we go,” Michael groans. “Shut your loser ass up dude,” Lucas says back searching the rink for his ginger crush.

“You don’t even like roller skating??” the boy remarks while trying to tie his skates

“You still agreed to come after I said El was here”

“Oh so you came for Max? Is that it? She doesn’t like you I dont understand why you’re still hung up on this honestly…”

“Shut up. Look!” Lucas cuts him off after spotting Max and El across the rink.

Max was the first to make eye contact with him

“El. What the fuck. Why is he here..” Max grabs her friends arm and nods over to the direction of the boys

“What who?” El says before glancing over to spot Lucas and Mike making their way to them

“It’s like he’s stalking me,” she whispers to el “like why cant he move on??” she hisses annoyingly.

“Max! Hey! Crazy seeing you here!” Lucas waves at her

She just rolls her eyes and responds, “Yeah we’re actually just leaving though. Bye!”

Max grabs El’s hand and starts to go off

“Max wait you don’t have to leave. I’ll keep Lucas under control”

“Oh hey Mike…” she almost didn’t even notice his presence as she was so distracted by Lucas being there, but of course anywhere Lucas was Mike was also bound to be there too and vice versa. It was like they were attached by superglue or something. “But seriously we were about to leave actually… movie night” she lied. Mike knew she was lying but still smiled anyway, “well have fun!”

The two girls left and Mike turned to Lucas, “Sooo can we leave now?”

“I just don’t understand why she hates me”

“Thats a yes right?”

“What did I even do?” he continued on

“Yeah thats definitely a yes” The boys walked out and got into Mikes car to leave.

When El got home Will was laying on the couch writing love poems about Mike.

“El? You’re back already?” he snapped out of his daydream when he heard the door snap closed

“Yeah Max saw Lucas and freaked out so we left early” she explained as she put her keys on the counter and took off her shoes

“L-lucas? Sinclair?” he stuttered

“Yeah”

“Lucas, whose friends with Mike, Sinclair?”

“Yeah…” El said again starting to get a little annoyed by her pestering brother

Will shot up off the couch and followed her to ask her more questions, “wait.. was Mike there too then?” he shouted down the hall as El was going to her room

She turned back to look at him and gave him an annoyed expression

“Not that I care or anything I was just wondering..” he defended himself, not that he needed to

“Uhh yeah Mike was there” she said. El was unaware of Will’s crush, she didn’t really care anyway.

Part of Will wanted to hurry up and go to the rink to see if Mike was still there but he couldn’t drive and didn’t want to bother El by asking her to go back with him and knew his mom would say no so he just let it go.

“Will?” El snapped her fingers “Is something wrong? You blanked out there…”

“Oh uhh yeah sorry I’m all good… goodnight El” he rushed over to his room.

“Yeah okay goodnight I guess”

Will was feeling sad tonight. When he was feeling sad he scrolled through his Mike photo album on his phone full of photos hes been collecting since 1st grade of Mike.

“God he’s so beautiful…” he thought to himself and went to sleep, dreaming about Micheal Wheeler.
