Gay is a really funny minority because with other minorities it's like "first black president! first female nobel prize winner' or whatever but with gay people it's "first openly gay" because we all already know there's been a bunch of gay ones already. like nobody even disputes this. gay president? yeah pretty sure we've had gay presidents. gay, you know, king of england? what you think none of those motherfuckers have been fucking gay?
#I've read a lot about James Buchanan and he's the fucking worst#but at the same time he lived with his best friend and all of their friends would refer to them as husband and wife#and he never married#but straight historians like to say that it's just because he was so upset over his ex

Friday my brother informed me that the name he and his wife were seriously considering for their son was the name of an obscure Roman Emperor and so as a goof I was reading the entire Wikipedia list of Roman Emperors which is how I discovered Pupienus
Now I had assumed it was pronounced "pew-pay-en-us" but my brother, a big history nerd who knows a lot about Roman culture and the Latin language, shared that in Rome, it actually would've been pronounced "poo-pee-ay-ness" or, like Poopy Anus
Just imagine getting to be a fucking Roman Emperor and then one day your name will mean "shitty butthole". I don't know anything Pupienus did, or anything about him, but I know his name is Poopy Anus

Hey boo I'm happy to help, just make sure you ask in more places than just Tumblr since there's gonna be some sampling bias.
Sorta? I kept seeing people talk about the importance of voting on TV and such when I was 13, but no one ever sat me down and explained it. If you need a yes/no, I'll say yes
Yes, I voted in the local primary and then the presidential election
22
I'd say a good bit but not a crazy amount. Like 3.5 on a scale of 1-5
I'm doing research for a college project on voting and age demographics! If anyone could answer some questions, it would be so helpful!
1. Did anyone encourage the importance of voting during your childhood?
2. Did you vote recently?
3. What age are you?
4. How much political content do you see online on a daily basis?
5. If you didn't vote, any reason why?

On April 16th 2025 the US federal government has proposed to change the interpretation of the endangered species act so that it no longer protects habitat.
This is open for public comment until the end of May 19th. Please comment and make your voice heard.
Wildlife need their habitat. If the ESA redefines harm so that habitat is no longer protected, the implications for wildlife would be catastrophic.

Indira Gandhi (1917 - 1984)
Indira Gandhi was a pioneering Indian politician who served as the first and only female Prime Minister of India for a total of nearly 16 years across two terms (1966-1977 and 1980-1984). The daughter of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, she established herself as a formidable leader in her own right, implementing significant policies like the nationalization of banks and leading India to victory in the 1971 war with Pakistan that created Bangladesh.
Her tenure was marked by both achievements and controversies, including her declaration of a state of emergency from 1975-1977, during which civil liberties were suspended. Her life ended tragically when she was assassinated by her own bodyguards on October 31, 1984, following her controversial decision to order military action at the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

*as she mentioned there's dispute over the origin. The other common explanation is that it originates in the Crips, but Henry Heard's career predates the foundation of Crips. I'm not sharing this because I think this is the definitive and only possible origin, I'm sharing because I think it's interesting history. I recommend doing your own research on this
Also the censoring in the corner is just covering a friend's icon since she also liked the vid lol
Video description (audio and visual) under cut
[Audio Description]
The beginning of Kendrick Lamar's performance of Not Like Us at the Super Bowl.
Chorus of women: You really 'bout to do it?
Kendrick: Forty acres and a mule, this is bigger than the music
Chorus of women: You really 'bout to do it?
Kendrick: Yeah they tried to rig the game but you can't fake influence
Chorus of women: Then get on it like that
Kendrick: Hey, I'm tripping, I'm sliding, I'm riding on the back like-
[The song begins as and continues as normal / end audio description]
A video from Instagrammer kaylamaria.g, a young black woman witch curly brown hair, a blue shirt with images of Mary J. Blige, and a dark blue skirt. She has a black prosthetic forearm on her right arm.
She dances along to the song and lip sync's the chorus's words while a clip of Kendrick and the chorus plays above her head. There's a caption reading "Did you know that the Crip walk was invented by an amputee?”
The caption changes to "Henry 'Crip' performed the 'Crip Hop' in 1949 that was later adapted as the 'crip walk'”
She dances and the caption changes again "The term Crip known as a derogatory term became his stage name to show people with disabilities are more than capable of learning fulfilling lives”
She shows a black and white clip of a black man with one leg and one arm on a stage in a suit while he dances. She dances behind the clip.
She leans in close to the camera, smiling with her tongue out and showing off her arm without her prosthetic. The caption reads "As a part of the amputee community This was exciting to learn for Black History Month. ***Despite the origin disputes***”

People on this website will really mock anti-vaxxers and flat earthers for ignoring scientists and getting their alternative facts from facebook, and then turn around and insist they know more history than historians and more archaeology than archaeologists because they read an unsourced tumblr post once
