Connor didn't expect the turmoil that came with the newfound complexity of emotions. Hank is there, but he doesn't offer the reassurance and comfort that Connor hoped for. Though, it's not like this should've been a surprising outcome, given the Lieutenant's own personal issues and stunted emotional growth.
Still, perhaps there was room for them both to mature alongside each other. But not without a lot of anger, heartbreak, and tears.
