I don’t know why people are saying that George betrayed Gladys like??? His face in the last scene of the episode says otherwise. Bertha just played the game smarter, really. Also I think it’s interesting that she wants her daughter to have more influence in high society than she does while taking away any real influence she might have in the marriage (ex. Telling the Duke that Gladys’ allowance is his to take).
