Week 12 Tumblr Post
Monday, Dec 3, 2018
 Entrepreneurship 1 Tumblr Post
By: Christine
Week 12 and the business project I had started is almost at the end. The aspects of my business that I believe has worked for me are the advertising efforts that I have done. I have gotten more calls staring at the ending of November and the beginning of December than I had from the start of the class. I wish I had started the business at that time. I think from a business perspective the holidays that are approaching is when parents need the help more. I will try to take advantage of this opportunity to increase my profits. I might even advertise a holiday special service to accommodate it.
The aspect of my business that has not worked was trying to find a person to help me run the business. I learned that I am not good at juggling all aspects of the business such as finding a way to delegate responsibilities or dealing with the administrative issues. While I was trying to solve that problem I learned that you have to make hard decisions like you have to turn away potential customers if you don’t have sufficient staff. I also learned that to have a mobile business it can deplete some of your resources. I learned that to run a business like babysitting it can be very challenging. The experience that I had gained from this has been very valuable.

 Creative Ways to Market Yourself
 By: Christine
So this is week 11 and starting it was very hard after a small setback last week. I had learned something very valuable during that week. The lesson was having your own business is hard but being a sole proprietor is even harder. I had no one to delegate the responsibilities to that I was not able to take care off. So I ask… how do you hire the help that you need?
For this week that has been my goal, but it seems that I am having a hard time achieving it. I must admit I do not want to obtain a business partner. But I am looking for an employee that is willing to get involve with a business that is one, a class project and two a very small business that does have potential. I had to figure out a few things. I needed to know how much I could pay this person and also what benefits this person could bring to my company. I also needed to figure out some very creative ways to market what qualities I was looking for. I am still in the process of brainstorming my marketing ideas. I have not quite figured out what I want to say. I have talked to a couple of people and doing it for free is definitely out of the question. I hope that at the end this week I might have a solution to my problem. If anyone has some suggestions or has experienced this as a challenge for their business could you email me? Slow Start
Tumblr Post
 By: Christine
Week 9 and things are looking up even marketing my company has improved. I must admit I am not a tech savvy person. I don’t really know or understand all the platforms that are out there in regards to social media. I am starting to feel overwhelmed by the pressure of them all. I am working with a very limited marketing budget. You have to understand this is a fake company that I am building. I knew that going into this class. But this feels weird to me. I had thought… do people who start businesses feel like this in the beginning. Or does this nerve racking feeling ever go away.
I noticed that I am still having the problem of balancing these new responsibilities in an already overwhelming schedule. I have noticed that word of mouth marketing is working for me. I had landed an opportunity to work with an elderly client that turned out to be a family friend. I hope we can do that during the duration of this project. I guess any customer counts at this point. I have noticed that the older the client the more you have to reduce the fee you charge for your services. They are on a fixed income and money is very tight for them. I had to reduce my fee significantly. So much in fact, it felt like I was giving my service away for free.
But the reality of this is, as the weeks start to go by, I have to make a very important decision. I have to choose is this a business I want to continue or not. Remember the customers that we are interacting with are real. They believe that you have created a real business and it comes with responsibilities that you have to deliver. Of course I am taking this very seriously. At this point the only thing that I can think about is doing this day by day and hoping I make the right decision at the end.

Think Positive
Monday, Nov 5, 2018
 Tumblr Post: Think Positive
Week 8, is here and I am feeling a bit discouraged. I have noticed that there seems to be a problem with marketing my company’s services. I feel that I need to invest more time in that department in regards to my company succeeding and becoming profitable. I am finding that having a full time job and trying to make a success out of a company it takes a lot of balance. I think that the advice to use social media to market the services would help to send more potential customers to my business.

Process of Start-Up Venture
Tumblr Post
 By: Christine W
1.      What is working?
Once I started this term project I had my doubts if I could complete it. I was always running into problems. I felt that at the start it was not going to work. I had tried to start a babysitting company part time. I had done it when I was younger and had stopped. I decided to take advantage of using my background in the field to start up again. I am finding that turning a passion into a business is not that easy. I had tried word of mouth to start, just to get my feet wet. I felt that it was the easiest thing and the most comfortable for me to do. I picked a group of people such as relatives, friends and co-workers who could relate to the pitch I had created for my business, they were very supportive. I just was not counting on one thing not being there. It was the courage to step out and try what I pitched. I had to consult with a few people to get an understanding, of what they had experienced and what advice they could give me about starting their own business. The one thing that most of them had told me was, to start a business no matter what type it was, is always hard to start at the beginning.
They suggested to me, try not to complicate it and start small. I should try to take on one job at a time. They had also suggested to me to record the experience and see what was good or bad about it. The problem I am facing right now was landing that first job. Now I have been told by my family and friends that they will let me work for them with a trial run. I think this was a way for them to land free babysitting service without paying. I thought to myself that it seemed like a good idea to start with. I could get the experience, show them what I was capable of and also land more potential jobs in the future. To be honest I am still waiting for that first paying job. I am starting to rethink my business strategy.
So far it is two months into the semester; I feel that my term project needs a bit of tweaking to get it off the ground. I have looked into advertising but the budget is very tight working with $50 to start with. I feel when there is no money to work with, meaning no profit to turn things around; it becomes more that just challenging. IT IS DOWN RIGHT HARD… I am being positive through this experience. I feel that it will turn around soon.
One positive thing that I feel is going well, is all the knowledge about running a business, I am gaining. There are so many aspects about this I did not know. Surprisingly I am enjoying the experience. I enjoy the creative aspect of it. Like creating a business pitch, logo, name of my company and I cannot forget advertising. The accounting aspect is also easy to. The experience of running a small business has taught me a lot about the type of person I am and also becoming. I like owning something that is mine. I enjoy working hard at creating something from scratch. I have learned that I have so many talents that I never saw before. I knew they were always there but did not realize. I guess I was waiting for the right opportunity to come so I could explore them.

Where Will I Get the Money?
Once I reviewed the many ways in which I could get funding to establish my daycare business I was amazed. There are several options that might help me to secure investment capital for my business this would help me to obtain equipment like cots, reading and art materials, transportation, or even a mortgage for the property I wish to use.
The funding could come from government grants and loans, my own personal savings, banks, and even investors such as crowdfunding or Angels funding.
In the article 7 sources of start-up financing there a lot of points made that an investor might need to consider before they would invest. The investor would want to know that the business plan is a solid one. If applying for a grant the application forms must be filled out correctly. Also the funding for the different government subsidies or grants you are required to pay back. I would really have to consider long and hard if in the future I pursue my business is this route the one I want to go.

What Are Your Strengths and Weaknesses
Tumblr Blog
What Are Your Strengths and Weaknesses?
 By: Christine
Once I had started this entrepreneurship course I never really thought about what my own personal strengths or weaknesses were. I really didn’t know what skills or abilities an entrepreneur had to possess to be successful as a small business owner. I just knew I wanted to potentially create a small business for myself one day and make money. Once I took the survey that was provided online I found out that there are so many things that encompass what an entrepreneur should have.
I believe after careful review, that one of my strengths that come naturally and with ease to me is being a people person. I am a very empathetic and caring person. I try to be a person that people can come and talk to easily. I am a very positive and up beat type of person. I have been through a lot of challenges in my life that has given me some needed perspective. I try to look on the bright side of things. If you look at the negative all the time, that perspective can take away joy and your energy.
One weakness that I feel that I possess that I need to work on is, asking for help when I really do need it. I find it hard sometimes to do. Many people I have spoken to have said that they struggle with it too. I feel that we equate this ability to being vulnerable or weak in some way. I think asking for someone’s help should be a natural thing. I believe everyone lacks confidence in a certain ability that someone else would naturally excel at. I think being a smart entrepreneur is finding the value in asking someone for help to achieve a common goal.
