Alhaitham motioned to Kaeya to take a seat on the divan so that he could relax. The scholar collected the tea pot from the table so he could prepare a pot of chai. Because he new he'd have a guest, he'd brought some fresh milk in today for making the traditional drink.

It took him a few minutes to get the tea ready, before he set the pot back down on the table.

"Help yourself to the chai and the cookies on the table. I'll grab the forms and work on them,"

It took him a few moments to dig through the papers that had people had put onto his desk while he had been out for coffee. He had an inbox for people to put these things into, and they just put them in the middle of his desk. After he found the forms he had laid out that morning, he found the writing board, so he could sit in the low chair and work.

It was much more comfortable.

Alhaitham poured himself a cup of chai, before taking a seat in comfy low chair. He'd rather have a nice and relaxed afternoon of work than be bent over the desk. He picked up the writing board and a pen to start filling it out.

"Have you been to Sumeru before?" The scribe asked as he worked on the forms, getting them ready to start filling in the titles. Thankfully he was used to this kind of paper work.

“Oh, Mondstadt certainly does have buildings that are rich in history and that provide a detailed picture of its culture, however the old gothic architecture isn’t something that appeals to everyone. Fortunately, though, the people of the Nation of Freedom are quite content with what they have,” he answered, smiling mirthfully. “Perhaps you should visit, sometime. I’d be more than willing to welcome you and show you around.”

As the two moved through the Akademiya, the way that others seemed to steer clear of the Scribe wasn’t lost on Kaeya. He quirked a brow the more they passed by the attendants of the institution, humming quietly to himself. How curious. Well, it’s not his place to question it or make judgements on it, and merely returned his focus on Alhaitham once the man spoke again.

“That’d be much appreciated.”

Following the larger man, when they entered his personal office, his eye was quick to scan around the room. It was something expected from a Scribe, to be surrounded by many bookcases filled to the brim with tomes and have little personal belongings in such a professional setting. He gets his work done, that much Kaeya can tell. Though, the special little knick-knacks that decorated the office here and there were certainly a surprise.

At the mention of snacks and chai, Kaeya’s eye returned towards the other as he offered him a cordial grin, nodding gratefully. “Well, I can’t deny the fact that having something to nibble on and drink sounds very appealing. Thank you for your hospitality, truly.”

Alhaitham wasn't sure if it was a cultural thing, maybe it was more polite for them to eat off of separate plates in Fontaine. In sumeru is was more common to share off the same plates. But everyone (save Kaveh) usually understood that Alhaitham didn't share plates save for a few people.

The fish was mild, but nice. It reminded him of other fried foods they had at home. And he could taste how fresh the fish was, from the nearby seas of Fontaine, instead of ponds and rivers of the rain forest. The fries were nice too, they could use more seasonings though.

One dip and test of the tartar sauce was enough for him.

The tomatoes were interesting. He liked the style of it, tomatoes, with a savory meat inside, and a sauce. But his palate that was used to more spices wanted a little more with it. It was a nice change of pace, but he wondered if he could make it a bit more.

"It's good, you tastes the flavours of the fish and tomatoes really clearly. Which is a nice change of pace from time to time," He took another bit of the tomatoes.

"This one, we should make at home, with some spices, and a curried sauce," He pointed at the tomatoes.

Kaveh sliced the fried fish in half so they each had their own piece to work on.  It was easier that way.  When a server walked by he asked for two smaller plates as he and his partner were going to share the two entrees.

Once two plates had been brought out to them Kaveh moved his half of the fish to his own plate.  He took some of the tomates narbonnaises, as well. The sauce did smell flavorful.

“Tartar sauce is for the fish,” he nodded, “I guess you could use it for your fries, too.”  Personal preferences.

Kaveh took a bite of the fish and smiled.  The crust was crispy, and the inside was light and flaky with a mild fish flavor.  He appreciated highly spiced food, but he could also appreciate the simple taste of the fish alone.  The tomatoes were next.  The sauce wasn’t as flavorful as something from Sumeru, but not boring.

“How do you like everything?”

Alhaitham adjusted his headphones a bit after they ordered, making sure that most of the noise would be blocked out, but he could still hear around him, because he wanted to hear Kaveh. He wanted to be able to hear the things around him. He'd also ordered a coffee for their light lunch.

The food did smell good. Not as spicy and fragrant as food from Sumeru, but they it still smelt well.

"Cut it in half? Like this?" he motioned to cut it in half, so they both could have a good chunk of the fish. "Or we can cut from one end each till we get to the middle?" It wasn't like they had brought sharing plates out for the two men, like they would in Sumeru. So the two would either have to split their foods on their own, or share off the same plates.

And the tomates narbonnaises had a sauce that Alhaitham would want on his other other food.

"What is this tartar sauce for? The fish or the fries?"

“I think those both sound good,” Kaveh agreed as he scanned over the menu, “I’m going to get a coffee, too.”  A perfect mix of fish, meat and vegetables… and fries.  A light lunch now and a heartier dinner later.

After placing their orders he leaned back into his chair and took in their surroundings.  Fontaine was a lot like he remembered, even if it had been at least over ten years.

Thankfully, he didn’t have much time to ruminate over the last time he had visited the nation.  Their food arrived and Kaveh’s focus shifted back to the present.

“It smells amazing,” he smiled as he picked up his utensils.  “Is there a particular way you want me to divide up the fish?”  It was only one large piece as opposed to the tomates narbonnaises.
