Hey, chat, I wanted to talk to you about commenting fics you like

I am sure a lot of you aware that ficwriters are starved for comments, maybe you are even one of them and experienced it first-hand. But I wanted to give everyone specific numbers to visualise how bad it is:

I looked through the last 60 fics posted/updated in pangkey tag on ao3 and looked at the ratio of the amount of comments (excluding the author's replies) to the amount of kudos on each fic (which for the purposes of this post we will equal to the amount of people, who read the fic).

Here are the results:

Average percentage of comments to kudos ratio: 8,38%

This is, honestly, insanely low. Only 8 people out of 100 take the time to write even one sentence on the work that takes hours to do. And I did not even count unique commenters, just any comments.

More: only 10 out of 60 fics had a comments/kudos ratio bigger than 15%. Out of them 4 had ratio greater than 20%.

Meanwhile, 26/60 fics had a ratio less than 5%. 10 whole fics had 0 comments at all.

As a ficwriter, this is just sad. I know that people say you should write for yourself or whatever, but in reality stuff like that can genuinely kill any motivation for some people. It's hard to call into the void.

So, as a conclusion to this, I want to ask everyone: if you read any fics recently – please go back now and leave a comment, it can even be something as short as 'i loved it' or 'thank you for writing this'; if you reread something you've already commented on – leave another one, let the author know you liked the story enough to read it again!

We are all in this together at the end of the day, that's what communities are for – to share and to uplift each other.

Honestly the bear hunt saga is the most lukey stream thing ever. The whole thing is a really weird sidequest. It makes absolutely no sense its suspicious and vague its a bit scary its gay. He's in a field looking for bears at this point and he's got a speaker out and he's gone from playing frank sinatra to minecraft music to white girl music. He's likely miles away from home at this point and whenever chat asks how he's getting home, considering his only mode of transport other than walking (a bike) was ditched ages ago, he gives a vague answer which literally makes no sense. Its almost 1am.
