Misinterpretations of Javier

Honestly, I should not be surprised that people misinterpret Javier when the entire fandom even misinterprets Arthur, but oh my lord I have never seen anyone be this wrong. "Javier is just a pretty boy who can sing, he is such a flat character," you know you are just outing yourself as a lazy player right? And I am not talking like, people who don't know minor details about him, like they don't know he has a sister or something, but people who just don't know anything at all about him and then claim that there just isn't anything to know.

The majority of Javier's personality is given to us through side missions and camp interactions, it is not just given to us through main quests like John or Dutch is but the fact that some people are too lazy to notice it does not mean it is not there because trust me it is.

Another one I see is "Javier is just a bad person who looks good," and in some way, yes, but he is in no way a worse person than John or Arthur. He is a criminal, they are all criminals, but a lot of people tend to see his meanness from desperation in chapter six as him being a bad person and not wanting the others to have a good life, wanting them to go down when Dutch does. You know that he was a revolutionary right? He put his own life on the line so others could get a better life? He wants people to survive but the thing that he needs Dutch to be right.

Javier risks his family's life if he goes back to Mexico and is in America as a Mexican with a criminal record he would not be able to make an honest living and the gangs he would fall in with aren't guaranteed to be as progressive as the Van Der Lindes, he does not have anywhere to go, he needs Dutch to be right.

"But he did go back to Mexico!" He is holed up in a mountains in 1907, you can read that in the newspapers, he is staying far away from everything and anything.

People call Javier a bad person for choosing "the wrong side" and being aggressive in chapter 6, something that first appears when that desperation sets in, up until then he is not at all aggressive without reason (such as being called a slur).

Those lines are the love she had for her husband. Their marriage created all of those smiles. So many that it left permanent marks on her face as the first signs of age.

That's why avenging Jake was so important.

Okay, look, I've never been interested in other people's preferences in ships, but when it comes to rdr and I see a lot of people making comments about how there's absolutely no reason for charthur to have a romantic context and people are just delusional about it, I get a slightly funny feeling.

And yeah, you can certainly dislike what you don't like, but saying that people came up with this particular ship out of nowhere is a bit silly.

Because, may God forgive me, a very good friend doesn't literally travel halfway around the world to find the body of their good friend and return back halfway around the world to give him a proper burial. There are many things in this life that we can do for our friends, but if I were Charles, who found out that his dear friend had tragically died, I would be depressed, sure, but I would just simply move on. I would have other things to do.

Except Charles didn't.

Charles literally abandoned everything and came back. Because he cared. Because, gosh, you don't understand how deep the very fact that he buried Arthur is. If that's not the strongest form of love, then what is?

And even if that's not enough for you, look at their goodbye scene. The embrace, their faces, their body language. Just look at them. Charles doesn't even need any big words. He might as well not even say anything.

His face told me everything I already knew.

arthur fans: i love arthur, he is sensitive and caring and he writes and draws in his little journal and hums little melodies from time to time, his story is incredible and his moral evolution shows how people can change despite everything🥺

One of my favorite aspects of Arthur’s character is his curiosity and his non-judgmental nature. Even if they are people who are totally different from him he doesn’t judge and he is always intrigued by the unknown.

For example Jamie, having joined a cult and behaving quite foolishly, gave Arthur a lot of trouble. Despite this, Arthur chose not to ridicule him and instead comforted him and said that he cannot judge him because he doesn’t know how his life has been.

Even though Arthur hates big cities, civilisation etc. he is not judgmental towards a woman who comes from a wealthy family, who doesn’t know a thing about survival, who probably never had to work for a single thing in her life. Instead, he is encouraging and helps her be more confident in herself.

Albert Mason, who is totally helpless and who probably couldn’t survive 2 days in the wild couldn’t be more different from Arthur, yet Arthur respects him and likes helping him.

Some of my favorite wholesome encounters include Algernon Wasp, who wants to sell Arthur a corset and make him try on extravagant hats, which aren’t Arthur’s style at all. Arthur could be mean to him but instead he makes excuses to not disrespect his work and even lets him put on the hat after little persuasion!

Arthur is intrigued by the flamboyant Charles Châtenay and his mischiefs and helps him/spends time with him even if there’s no reward for him.

He helps a crazy scientist obsessed with creating his robot son, a crazy palaeontologist..he is obviously drawn to new/unfamiliar things. Even though he might find them weird at first he doesn’t mind and wants to know more about them.

Arthur also doesn’t seem to like physical affection much but I can remember at least 4 instances where he lets people hug him to comfort them even though it might be uncomfortable for him.

I genuinely think that for anyone to say that Arthur wouldn’t be accepting of people different from him, would be homophobic, transphobic, would kill you if you were near him, would be mean to you etc. have no understanding of him at all. Arthur treats people like they treat him and he doesn’t think he is in any position to judge how others live.

Bonus: if you manage to find “Bigfoot” and visit him for the second time he asks Arthur if he has missed him and Arthur is really awkward and doesn’t really know what to say so he says he also missed him haha
