People who actually know things about football, correct me if I’m wrong. But I’ve been researching squad info.
25 is the cap on number of players for a squad.
17 is the cap on regular players.
8 players would be “homegrown” to bring a squad up to 25. But more can be, it just lowers the above number of regular players.
Under 21s however can also be on a squad over the cap of 25 players.
So, for instance, right now Man City has:
12 regular players
6 homegrown players
63 under 21s
Those under 21s can be called up to the main squad as needed.
Given the cutoff date to qualify as an U21, S1 Jamie would have no longer been eligible to be, for lack of a better word, an extra. He’d have to be squad. And he would be a homegrown, which has it’s appeal. But City seems to always be like 3 teams thick.
So he gets loaned out, since they have the core squad established and he is no longer in the U21 loophole. Has some time to get polished with (assumedly) more individual attention. Maybe in that time an older player retires or transfers.
Richmond doesn’t have a youth program, so they don’t have a lot of U21s. Sam and Kukoč are the only ones. Which doesn’t matter since they don’t have 25 players to begin with.
I just find it infinitely interesting that Jamie is arguably Not the Best player for Man City. But is still an asset, since they aren’t just straight up trading. But that means, right, that City’s “worst” player is still Richmond’s best.

Thank you my wonderful friend! Here’s a bit from chapter 2 of false confidence which is chapter 1 from Ted’s POV (cw for how Jamie sustains his concussion):
Hope crawled desperately up Ted’s spine. Despite everything, the team was only down by a goal and this would be a chance to tie it up.
Dixon took possession of the ball and passed it over to Jamie. Jamie kicked it over to Sam, Jamie ran his route, and Ted kept his eyes on Jamie, waiting for the pass he knew would be coming from Sam. But Zava, Zava didn’t even move. Ted could hear Beard yelling at the striker, but the words were lost in the white noise of the stadium.
Ted watched in horror as it all went wrong, wondering for the umpteenth time why these fellas don’t wear pads. Zava’s not where he’s supposed to be; he’s barely in the offensive zone. So he didn’t draw any defenders, and two descended quickly on Jamie, who miraculously managed a shot on net. Ted didn’t follow the ball but heard the whoosh of the ball hit the net. Instead, he watched in slow motion as one defender tackled Jamie right after the ball left his foot, and Jamie’s head hit painfully off the knee of the other defender before bouncing off the turf.
Fuck.
Ted was starting to understand the whole it’s the hope that kills you thing.

Not to be one of those people who's like "he would not fucking say that!!!!1!!" about something that he did in fact fucking say, but Roy saying that he was fine with Jamie playing hurt because he played hurt all the time felt like a betrayal of some of the show's core themes about breaking generational cycles and seemed like a hard left after some of the other developments we'd seen from Roy (refusing to comment on a 17-year-old's performance as a pundit because he knew that the same thing had crushed him, for example.)
It's not that I wanted to see him fawning over Jamie and telling him that he's ~more important than a game~ or whatever, but personally I just think it would be more narratively impactful and bring Roy more full-circle if he, like, reflected on what playing hurt did to his physical and emotional wellbeing and didn't eagerly condemn his protege to the same fate

Many lgbt teenagers and young adults growing up on the internet today have socially conservative beliefs that they voice at all times that they got from their conservative parents which they’ve never challenged because they think the life experience of being gay or trans makes them politically progressive

thinking of muslim nino again. alya, adrien, and marinette are his built in haram police. they're in the middle of a movie night when the maghrib azaan goes off and nino's like 'oh dw ill just pray it later' and all of them look at him with such disappointment that he guiltily gets up and prays it then and there. they're out at a restaurant for iftar and nino tries to break his fast with a fizzy drink before marinette stops him and brings out some dates and a bottle of water because 'your mum said it's sunnah'. his cousins in morocco assume that since he lives in europe it must be so hard to focus on his deen since no one around him is muslim but he's like oh dont worry my friends are somehow worse

Reblog for a larger sample size!
No "show results", if you're not a fanfic writer just be patient.
I saw a post about an anon saying it was embarrasing to have an ao3 account in your 30s (it's absolutely not), so I want to do a poll and see what the age range actually is.
