@bladedwingsandclaws
As Calyrex neared the wounded stranger in its midst, she turned guarded and hostile in an instant. A warrior through and through, it could see; the Good King could not fault her for being guarded in such a state as this.
Tumblr media
In spite of the weapon pointed at it, the ever merciful king’s voice remained serene. “Lay down thy weapon. No further harm will come to you by my hand... Prithee, allow me to help you.”

@raichoose (Faye)
As Faye busied herself with her duties as usual, the air was soon filled with the aromas of good baking. So it was that the ever curious King of Bountiful Harvests came and spoke unto her:
Tumblr media
“Ahem hem! Hail and forgive me, good human… I am in search of seeds of carrots. Have you any such offerings to spare?”

@raichoose (Guzma)
At a certain point in his journey, by some stroke of extraordinarily poor fortune, Guzma crossed paths with a riderless Glastrier. Ill-tempered even at the best of times, Glastrier seemed to have taken umbrage with something about the man, be it his posture or passing gaze, or simply his unwanted presence within its line of sight.
Tumblr media
It snorted and pawed at the earth, then reared up onto its hind legs with a terrible, chilling neigh. With naught but that by way of warning, it charged him at full speed.

“Telepathy…So you’re a psychic type, eh?”
Interesting… May tucks her hand under the chin. Her eyes darts around, carefully examining the “Calyrex” creature before her. More than once, her gaze drifts to the bud-like structure on its head.
A strange Pokemon the size of a small Diggersby with at least some psychic capabilities if even if her assumption of it’s typing is false. The green structure on its head ( for gathering sunlight perhaps? for attacking? ) suggests a Grass type but she’s seen enough weird shit on the road to act without concrete data. Well, if suddenly decides to attack, Draco Meteor is always a reliable option…
“Sure, find me dinner and I’ll talk. Twigs still ain’t sure if the mushrooms here’re edible.”
The Good King said naught of the way her eyes lingered upon its crown, though it surely had noticed. In response to her comment on its typing, it merely blinked. “Is that what you would call me?”
This human was quickly proving herself to be interesting, if nothing else. Her offer gave Calyrex pause; it seemed unsure whether it found her brazenness offensive or amusing.
Tumblr media
“... You are rather bold to expect favors for such a thing, human.” After a moment, however, another smile graced its visage. “Although... I suppose finding you an acceptable repast to replace myself is a fitting exchange, if nothing else. Very well—I shall help you.”
And so it went to appraise the mushrooms in question itself, feet ghosting over the soil as it floated to the cluster growing nearest to them.
“Hm, hm. If these be the mushrooms you were referring to, I must advise against eating them. Your companion may be able to stomach them, but you are sure to suffer for it...” It turned its gaze upon her then, icy eyes slightly narrowing as it studied her with care. “Provided, of course, you are human and I am not mistaken.”

          “Well met Lord Calyrex. And a pleasure it is to meet thee as well, Sir Glastrier.”
He says, giving a bit of a respectful bow himself. Humble indeed, King Calyrex was. Unlike himself, who was more strict, and to the point about things. The other seemed much more relaxed than anything else, until he had heard that Excelsius was also a king. Fearless too, unflinching as he showed his respects, even despite Excelsius’ intimidating size.
          “These lands may no longer be what they used to, But they are still your lands, Lord Calyrex. There is no need to be so modest. Prithee. Tell me more about this land.”
He lies down, belly on the snow. It’s cold, and crunches a bit under his weight. It’s something he rarely experiences out in the Weald, the woods catch much of any snow that falls, only a mere blanket covers the ground at most at any given time.
Tumblr media
          “And please, tell me more about thyself as well! How long hath thee watched over these lands?”
Though the Good King Calyrex was warmed by the kindness of Excelsius’ words, it found itself disheartened at their implication.
“There is much truth to your words, Your Majesty. Indeed they are my lands... and I am to blame for their decline. For many a year, I was without power and unable to attend to them... Even now, I possess but a paltry fraction of my former glory.”
Tumblr media
“They were once lush, with greenery as far as one could see. Yes, so splendidly did these lands flourish that the humans named them the Crown Plains, and myself the King of Bountiful Harvests! Though I cannot give you a precise count, I watched over those Plains for many, many years... Until, regrettably, my people began to forget me. As their memory of me began to wane, so too did my powers...”
So it was that the desolate Tundra came to stand in place of those bountiful Plains, sheets of frozen white laid out over once plentiful fields by an endless, wintry wind. Calyrex regarded it now in wistful silence.
Tumblr media
“Loathe as I am to admit it... I lost heart, until a boon was delivered unto me in the form of a human child. That child’s aid has allowed me to regain some of my power and begin to reacquaint myself with these lands once more. I am still in the midst of this quest—nay, just at the start of it! Time changes the land as it changes us all. There are perhaps new reaches of this tundra even I have yet to see...”
The possibility filled the Good King with vigor—so much so that only too late did it take notice of just how much it had said, some of it quite unnecessary. A flicker of shame crossed its visage before it turned away from the stretch of snow and unto its patient companion. The sight of the Crowned Sword Excelsius was resplendent even in repose. Perhaps this was nothing more than the glamour of faefolk, yet still this conversation had granted Calyrex a peculiar sense of solace. Thus it continued:
“Forgive me my boldness, Your Majesty... but somehow I cannot shake the feeling that you and I have met before. Long ago, perhaps... Further back than my memory serves. Are you certain our paths have never crossed?”

This chance brush with the Witch of Laverre, though disastrous for some, found the King of Bountiful Harvests in good spirits. In an instant it knew that the one standing before it now was not fully human, even before the feathers and talk of age gave her away—sure proof that its powers were indeed returning.
Said Calyrex, “Hail, good lady. Many apologies... It seems I gave you a start.”
She had caught it in repose, at a pause in its journey for allowing its steed to rest. The beastly Glastrier, ever prepared for a fight even during such a lull, snorted and pawed at the snow with one ice-shoed hoof, agitated, but Calyrex paid it little mind. Though it had sensed in the woman powers unattainable by any human, it sensed no pure malice, and thus withheld any judgment. Genial and oddly humanlike in its bearing, it answered the witch’s question with a nod of its head and a smile.
“I could indeed offer you such a tale, should you hear it. However, perhaps proper introductions are in order before then...”
Tumblr media
“I am Calyrex. There was a time I was known in these lands as the King of Bountiful Harvests. As for yourself... You have traveled far to be here, have you not? Be at ease. Are you in need of any assistance?”
@harvesthare || liked for a starter!
Bridgette would give a slow blink at the creature, honestly not quite sure what she was looking at. Well, it was a pokemon, obviously. A creature more than worthy of her respect, as long as they respected her in return. But something about it just felt… off. Not in that artificial sense, that some pokemon in this modern era gave.
No, it was more-so that this pokemon didn’t feel modern at all.
That was the only thing that she could think of, that would explain the nagging instinct in the back of her mind. The instinct screaming to show respect, as if she were dealing with something similar to herself. Well, not truly similar. Just older. That was it. It felt as if she should treat it as her elder. Not that she wouldn’t show basic respect anyways - it had done nothing to warrant her ire.
But the nagging feeling was bothering her. Was it a fae? She wasn’t sure.  It didn’t feel quite like one… but something still felt off. Perhaps it was best to err on the side of caution?
The witch would tilt her head - her eyes giving a look of caution, more-so than curiosity this time. Her feathered shawl poofed up as if to not just protect her from the region’s cold, but also to make herself look larger - impulse be damned, perhaps her instinct said to show respect - and perhaps her instinct was right - but it would have to earn it like everyone else.

    “I must say. I’ve lived quite a long time, but apparently not long enough. I don’t suppose you’ve got a story to share?”

more than 20,000 years ago: Calyrex is born. Happy birthday Calyrex!
~20,000 years ago: Eternatus arrives in Galar inside a meteor that falls toward Calyrex’s forest. To save its home, Calyrex uses its powers to teleport the forest and all its residents, including itself, into the tundra. Eternatus enters a dormant state for 17,000 years, during which I assume Calyrex is just chilling like any other wild Pokémon. Bro i am just s i am just sitting here
~3,000 years ago: In order to stay alive, Eternatus begins to absorb all of Galar’s energy, causing the first Darkest Day. When Dynamaxed/Gigantamaxed Pokémon begin to rampage across the region, Calyrex attempts to join Zacian and Zamazenta’s fight against Eternatus, but is unable to do much damage before being gravely injured. In its panic, it uses the last of its energy to teleport itself back to the tundra, where it is soon found by Freezington villagers. Zacian, Zamazenta, and Eternatus all enter a dormant state.
...........if i adhere to this timeline, the process of Calyrex transforming the barren tundra to the lush Crown Plains, replacing Zacian and Zamazenta as Pokéruler of the Galar region, teaming up with Glastrier, AND being forgotten and losing its power all happened over the course of 3,000 years...i GUESS!
