Breonna Taylor, 26, was jarred awake in the middle of the night by three detectives performing a "no-knock" warrant (now banned). The warrant was part of an investigation against her ex-boyfriend. Her current boyfriend- understandably assuming the officers were dangerous intruders- fired one shot from his legally owned gun. The officers fired thirty-two shots, killing Breonna Taylor.

Jordan Edwards, 15, was killed by police. He was leaving a house party, in a car with his friends, when an officer fired at them with his patrol rifle. The officer was charged with and found guilty of murder- one of few times officers have faced real consequences.

Freddie Gray, just 25 years old, was killed in police custody because of a spinal injury sustained by police. He was screaming in pain- his spinal cord was almost severed- but was not helped in time. He was arrested for possession of a switchblade (which is illegal), but he did not, in fact, have a switchblade. The first three officers on trial were acquitted and, unlikely to succeed, the prosecution dropped the case for the remaining three.
