black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.

if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.

Fanfic is a free hobby.

It's one of the last few things we can have as a society that's free. You can engage, for free. People give you things (art, stories, etc), for free.

Don't buy into the consummerism just because it's everywhere else.

You don't have to consume everything you interact with. You don't have to use things, just because they exist.

You're allowed (still, for now), to have things that are enjoyable for free.

Do you realise how insane the world is? We don't have many places where we can just be, for free anymore, but ao3 is. Did you notice we don't have ads in ao3? We don't have pop ups? Where ELSE do we not have that?

Where else can you just go and not have to wait for a commercial to be over or for ads to be on the sidelines?

I don't think the younger people understand, but the whole of internet used to be like this. YouTubers would do Youtube for free, just because. You couldn't monetise your internet presence before.

Ao3 is like a little preserved corner of the internet where the old internet used to be, and it's being attacked by people who do not understand that free things are allowed to exist without judgment.

Please don't ruin this for us.

Thinking about the Old Guards' first deaths again. All of them. It must have bee traumatic, coming back. Nile had a hard enough time and Andy was right there to catch her up to speed.

Imagine Andy and Quynh waking up for the first time, utterly alone. I like to think that Andy did so surrounded by the bodies of those she'd died fighting. And Quynh, surrounded by the living looking at her in horror, frantically debating over what to do with her, sending her into exile. Andy seeing it as a burdensome gift. Quynh as a curse. Taking herself out to the desert to die again and again.

Imagine Nicky and Joe killing each other endlessly. Imagine the blood under their nails, unwashed hair and bloodshot eyes and nothing but hatred for the man in front of them. Sent on a holy quest, driving out the invader. Unable to kill or be killed, forced to drag their corpses back up for another round.

Booker hanging for three days. Catching and eating crows because he didn't yet know that he didn't need to eat. The only one of them who didn't die in battle, but died running from it.

At least Nile had someone holding her when she died.

TO ANYONE WHO USES DISCORD- FOUR AI SCRAPING BOTS HAVE BEEN SECRETLY ADDED TO YOUR SERVERS WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT

Saw this going around and tested it myself, and I can confirm that this is unfortunately legit. Four hidden bots have been placed in any existing or newly created Discord server that are harvesting data, images, and most concerningly, one seems to be a face swap bot. It should be noted that it is stated that they cannot grab content not sent through bot commands, but knowing how things have gone on sites like A03 and twitter, it is impossible to say if it will stay that way.

Due to them being invisible, banning them from your servers isn't possible without their ID's, which I've typed out for easy access.

Banning is done with the /ban command with each string pasted in one at a time. Four ban commands in total.

Image proof below and further information. This was in my PERSONAL server that has existed for +5 years. Discord is harvesting your shit without your consent, fight back. The "partnered with" part appears to be false (?) in relation to one image talking about it, so some information is currently unclear.

My followers know I hate talking about politics and current events, and generally refuse to do so, but this is important.

A bill has been introduced in the US that would make all pornography a federal crime. Owning it. Creating it. Distributing it.

Under this law, fanart of nude characters would be a federal crime.

Under this law, depictions of homosexuality or simply being transgender, would be considered pornography and a federal crime.

This bill is not going to pass.

However, the reason for this bill is to continue to push the "overton window". The reason for this bill is to make banning pornography seem more and more normal to everyone until they can actually do that.

And remember, they consider depictions of gay characters and transgenders characters "pornography" in any context, including platonic.

They have been working on this for a decade now and it has been working.

If you are one of the people in fandom who thinks that "nasty" porn on AO3 should be banned because it's "icky" or "immoral", then this mental scam is working on you.

Censorship is never about protecting people.

Censorship is always about control.

Do not let the rising moral panic affect your mind and make you weak to propaganda that lets others control you and control what you watch and read.

I would not have read the night circus (I thought it was going to be thriller/horror with a name like that and the ominous description) without my fantasy literature professor introducing me to it and so many other good ones just this past spring. And now that I have read it, yes yes yes yes. Please read it and fall so hard in love like I did.

i think every fantasy lover should read the starless sea or the night circus at least once in their life. or just all people in general should.

erin morgenstern is the best weaver of words that i’ve ever had the honour of reading and i think everyone needs to experience her vivid storytelling at least once. cannot recommend her books enough.

if anyone knows any books like hers PLEASE recommend them to me^^
