scrupulosity and an OCD obsession with morality is so much more than just wanting to be a good person.
yes, I want to be a good person. but for me, that comes along with:
an unreachably high moral standard
an unshakeable guilt complex
a chronic feeling of “what have I done wrong?”
constant flashbacks to “shame memories”
tying myself up in knots over making the right decision (even over the little things)
and sometimes… this obsession with being a good person actually prevents me from being as good a person as I would be otherwise (e.g it can make me come across as selfish and not compassionate)

It's very bittersweet to see a lot of political support to Chile and our people during the 50th anniverdary of the coup, even from the US (Thank you AOC) and even from right wingers. Meanwhile the right wing politicians of our country who were chosen by many and are deemed as "trusted" to write the consititution do nothing but be silent and deny the truth of what their party did. Everybody can accept what happened except us. Pinochet walked free until the day he died when I was an infant. I grew up hearing this event referenced in school only as a 'military goverment', hearing people demonize the murdered leftists president more than the dictator, hearing people excuse his actions or say he saved us. Stadistics reveal around 30% of the population thinks what happend on that day was justified. Why? Maybe because they'd excuse that again. It's #niperdonniolvido. But sadly many don't seem to remember or thinks there's something to be sorry for. If we were more sane, people who supports to Pinochet would be scorned, hold important goverment positions or be the second most voted presidential candidate. And that's the problem we face right now. We're bound to repeat history like a circle if we can't accept its truth.

quick reminder that 9/11 isn’t only an important date in us history, but also in chilean history as well.
today marks the start of a military dictatorship that ruled chile for 17 years (1973-1990) due to the political intervention of the united states. this period was characterized by blatant human rights violations, with people getting exiled from their own country because of their political beliefs and chileans (of all ages) getting tortured under this military regime.
according to the informe rettig (a comission that investigated the human rights violations during the dictatorship), there is an estimate of 28,259 victims of political prison and torture, 2,298 executed and 1,209 detenidos desaparecidos (people that “went missing” while they were detained by military authorities). these people ranged from figures of political opposition, their relatives, students, indigenous people, immigrants, underage kids, among many others.
despite the fact that the dictatorship of augusto pinochet was over fifty years ago, there are still chilean citizens that do not know what happened to their loved ones that went missing during this time period.
