Final explanation placed on the evaluation table
BODY EXTENSION
Friday project
This body extension helps little kids express there emotions more easily. With the use of four different materials each linked to one of the four basic human emotions:
happy sad afraid angry
the child can place them on their back with help of a velcro back pad. Based on the size of the object, the child can indicate to what extent they perceive the emotion in question. This way the child creates a composition that represents his/here mood. The objects are each linked to an emotion but they of course are completely open for interpretation. While the children are growing up they can change/delete/add objects to their liking. Over the years you can see a development in understanding and dealing with their emotions by looking at the use of the different objects. The children can discover their emotions at an early stage in their life with the help of this playful instrument.

The presentations where really inspiring to see. All these people with all these new ideas. You could see everybody infested a lot of research and time in there project. I was glad I could finish of the trimester in this way, If you asked me a week before I would see that there was no way I would have a finished prototype on that table. Even tough concept wise its not that strong, I will focus on working more on that part. I liked doing research and seeing my idea slowly change and becoming something tangible.

Started with the happy objects. Already made the part where I can attach them on someone’s back. How bigger the object, the higher the level of the emotion is experienced by the child. Since I’m focusing on children I made it very basic and fast to understand. Also the reason I’m working with the four basic emotions. I forgot to update my Tumblr because al the deadlines I’m trying to reach. I think I reached the level of understanding for my project now. I can appreciate the whole thing more now. This week I made some important decisions help me finish the extension. I’m happy to work on it and found peace in the whole thing. All the struggle is still in my head but I can finally focus on the necessary now. I’m not going to write all the steps that I forgot to put on my Tumblr right now, I’m presenting it tomorrow after all. But still feel bad that I couldn’t find a moment to capture and post all the findings of this week. So busy

11 people filled in the list. Already finding a strong way people feel about the objects. There is a general idea about what the objects represent. From that point on I can make the “universal emotion objects” that I quite clear for everybody to understand. I would have made 4 objects in the four different workshops. Wood, metal, textile and plastic.

Making a question list, so I can get a clear view on what the people globally think of my for objects. After this I will make 4 new objects based on what comes out of the list.

Thinking about making the body extension in a piece of clothing. Still struggling where to begin. Last week I made progress, but now I’m not making those big steps towards the end like I hoped. Also because there is so much to finish I my brain kinda freezes thinking about the friday project which isnt finised at all.

Looked up the work of Bart Hess today. The crucial part of my idea is that is needs to change. Your mood is never the same, it constantly changes. When i looked at Hess his work my head got filled with new ideas how I can make a texture/color/material translate and constantly change to the mood of the body. Im still really sure about having it placed on the shoulders/back of the body.
