nate would ponder about the thought of telling you for a long time. he probably thinks about it all the time, even when you first met. constantly wondering how’ll you react.

it’s more of a curiosity. he’s curious of your reaction. would you be surprised at the secret information. or heartstruck at the trust he’s showing you by telling you his name.

it is likely sudden or out of know where when he tells you. you could be telling him about your day when he’d suddenly interrupt you blurting: “y/n. my birth name is nate rivers.”

his confession is so out of place and sudden that you’d think he’s fucking joking! you’re so startled that you actually though that near of all people was making a joke.

depends on your reaction if he’d confirm this to you. if he didn’t like your reaction to the information and thought you weren’t read he’d play it off as if he was “joking”.

if near indeed did like your reaction he’d elaborate and simply explain how he thought it was time for you to know, that he trusted you enough to know this classified info.

is cautious about telling you, but not because it’s you, he’s just a cautious person. he doesn’t like things coming back to bite him in the ass, so he takes his precautions.

you all remember that one scene when mello traveled to the spk hideout to get that photo of himself from near (my memory kinda hazy ngl)? like i said he takes precautions.

constantly convinces himself that not telling you is best. you could be targeted or kidnapped for knowing his name! that thought made him convince himself for a while.

mello’s real worries are you knowing his true self. he just…wonders if you knowing personal things about him will drastically change your relationship and views of him.

his reasoning may sound silly, even to himself but he likes how simple things are. mello just has trouble taking that next step in a relationship, opening up more to one another.

best way is to just not nag him about the name thing. accept that he isn’t willing to open up quickly, and to not take it personally. at least that’s what matt told you.

eventually, with time he’ll tell you. likely in the time where he’s emotional or in de stress and needs your embrace. it’d be done quickly and sharply, a little falteringly too:

“Mihael…” he blurts before elaborating quickly. “it’s m-my name, it’s Mihael Keehl.” he whispers before sighing, turning away from you. “what’re you smiling about? what? are you happy that i finally told you my bullshit name huh?!”

on the outside, matt seems carefree about the name thing. he comes off as being the most reckless about hiding his name out of mello and near but i think that’s wrong.

if i remember correctly, it was said that matt specialized in technology! he also did mostly hacking jobs for mello during his time in the mafia and from what i know about hacking it’s all about concealing your identity!

so matt would be more on the winds about right? whenever you ask him about his true name he’ll laugh and play it off, but your question will stay on his mind for a while.

matt completely understand the consequences of you knowing his name. hell, matt didn’t even know nears true name, only mello’s since he told him when they were kids.

this thought actually makes matt think if he trusted you like he did mello? could he trust you like mello? you’re his s/o, yet you know almost nothing about his identity.

does he want to take the next step with you, this step that may make him trust you more. matt ultimately decides to tell his lovely s/o. would wait until you ask him again <3

“it’s Mail, pronounced mile. i noticed that a lot of people tend to pronounced the name wrong. well that doesn’t matter anyways.” he rambled. “fully tho, it’s Mail Jeevas.”

matt makes it known that if you’re reckless with this info that he could be killed by kira or from his other enemies. totally not trying to intentionally scare ya a bit (-_^).
