whenever people are like “oh you think gazan using tumblr? realy?” as way to try and question legitimacy of fundraiser i feel insane because i swear this app popular amongst arab. like when i first join as much younger teenager/preteen and was in big fandom space like half of my mutual would be living in middle east and post in arabic. the lebanese and gulf arab girl have been carrying aesthetic photo blog on there back for year now. i swear i run into egyptian every 2.5 second on this website. i don’t think it unrealistic at all that a decent amount of people from gaza would be on tumblr or know of it as place they could join for fundraising purpose

tbh i think the fact that people here [in the US] see russia as one great putin-loving monolith but see countries like the uk as complex and multifaceted societies and not some homogeneous brexit & theresa may fandom (thats a specific example but it applies to all of western europe and north america pretty much) really just boils down to antiquated cold war era xenophobia + borderline colonialist paternalism and its annoying as hell and it makes me sick

We have not been spared from this Nazi Zionist occupation, day and night, starvation, siege, bombing and terror. Our children do not enjoy the minimum necessities of life. Ronza did not receive milk or nutritional supplements when she was one year old, and her sisters do not have anything to feed them because of the siege and famine. Please, we need your help now. In a bombed-out neighborhood of Gaza, Rania, a 26-year-old woman, stood staring at the pile of stones and twisted iron where her home had once stood. The wind was raising dust and whipping it across her cheeks, but she didn't shed a single tear. Her eyes were fixed, as if trying to recall something beyond the destruction: memories, laughter, the smell of bread in the morning, and the fragrant jasmine her mother had planted near the door.

Rania wasn't just a survivor. She was a painter. But her paintings no longer adorned the walls of galleries or small cafes. Now, she painted on the ruins of her homeland, trying to immortalize what could never be recovered.

In her right hand, she held a small, dusty notebook and in her left, a pencil. She sat on a broken stone that had been part of her home's staircase and began to paint. She didn't draw the destruction as it is, but as she saw it: The house standing, the windows open, the white curtains moving in the breeze, her mother calling her from the kitchen, her little brother running down the corridor, and herself looking out from the balcony to draw the sea. She was engraving the lines of memory with her pen as if to say, "Perhaps flying can erase walls, but no one can erase what I draw." A young neighbor passed by, recognized her, and asked, "Are you still drawing despite everything?" She replied, without taking her eyes off the paper, "I don't draw despite everything... I draw because everything is over." Rania's drawings spread across the internet, and people began to see her destroyed house through her eyes. One painting was titled "The House as It Was," another: "The Room I Dreamed of," and "The Fig Tree That Didn't Last the Season." In a world where images proliferate without a soul, Rania's paintings were a window beyond the destruction: an invitation to see not only what was lost, but also what must return. Although she still sleeps in a room without a roof, each painting she creates is a new ceiling for a homeland that never died.
