So uh do we have any canon confirmation of when Whirlpool went down or do people just assume it was whilst Kushina was alive? I mean I assumed it to, went to look it up and found nothing so put it in Karin’s backstory instead.
I mean, if I’m wrong, it means that her mother survived a slaughter, found a new home and had Karin as an adult, then they ran away from that home for some reason, got to Grass, then Karin survived a (different) village slaugher.
#EVERYONE INCLUDING MYSELF ASSUMED WHIRLPOOL WAS GONE BEFORE NARUTO WAS BORN#BUT#Karin and her mum having to take refuge in Grass BECAUSE Whirlpool got wrecked works very logically#although#Karin not really belonging anywhere fits I feel#she never saw her mother's home town#they then had to feel where Karin was born#got exploited by Grass#sole survivor of a massacre#then taken in by orochimaru#and then follows sasuke only to be thrown away by him

What if instead of Karin and Suigestu working for Orochimaru in Boruto, and whatever Jugo’s doing, Sasuke continued to work with Team Taka rather than going solo...
#unless Jugo's having a real peaceful time with the animals because that's valid#at least let K/S party with Sasuke

“ Ahaha. Classic Suigetsu kun. I already told that little brat to come and get it. He has only one chance though, otherwise he will have to learn how to handle swords with only one hand.”
“...You know, if you did do something to him, he’d be pretty useless to Sasuke. Might have to get kicked off the team. Not that I’d ever imply that something like that would be a good idea.”

Karin is not considered a missing-nin: given how the others deployed alongside her were all dead, the Grass Village assumed that she was among them.

Deviating from the data books where they claim Karin has no loyalty to Orochimaru, that isn’t true of this blog. Sasuke’s presence helped convince her that joining him could be a good idea, if only because one of the few people who showed her any warmth was with him.
Beyond that, Karin was a vulnerable child. Yes, Orochimaru did run experiments on her to test the limits of her healing abilities, but he gave her a home and authority. Though admittedly dubious, Karin technically agreed to any tests, in return for the responsibilities handed to her and ironically, having her bodily autonomy better respected than before.

“It’s not that I’ve only just noticed or anything; I realised when I first saw you that you’re the one who was communicating with the allied forces, right? It’s faint, but you leave small traces of chakra on each person, which can be traced back to you... I thought you should know, since more people don’t think about that kind of thing.”

Do you ever suddenly realise the connection between Anbu Root being filled with basically brainwashed orphans and Orochimaru’s having a bunch or orphans loyal to him after he picked them up and how Danzo was pro Orochimaru being hokage and yeah

The slaughter that led to Orochimaru finding Karin took place in a small village near the Land of Earth border. Conflict having broke out, she was sent there as a healer. Nobody believed that the village itself would be targeted, as mainly civilians resided there, but it was a convenient location for the Grass ninja deployed to restock, and reach more important targets.
The lack of military might from the village itself played a large part in why nobody believed Karin when she tried to inform them of the incoming enemies. Why would they be targeted? Why believe a 13 year old genin who had recently failed her promotion exam?
Even now, Karin gets very uncomfortable when someone doubts her skill as a sensor. Not just insulted. She was the only survivor of the attack on the village as not a single soul listened to her, civilian and deployed shinobi alike.
