TRAVEL.

Alfyn loves travelling! He loves to see things he’d never see in Clearbrook. He also loves seeing the stars when they’re out (granted he could see them pretty well in Clearbrook too, but it feels pretty different when you’re out in the wilderness).

It’s unlikely he’ll get anywhere fast if it’s not urgent though, because he’s usually off inspecting the plants that grow in that area and trying to identify them. (And collect a few, if he needs them).

Anyway, he’s… decent at adapting to the different environments of the other… countries? Lands? Whatever they’re collectively called. He’s fine in the warmer areas, but has a bit more difficulty getting used to the colder areas, like the Highlands and Frostlands (mainly because he’s always so reluctant to wear sleeves at full arm length).

CELESTIAL INTERVENTION.

I’m gonna preface this by saying that this is pretty spoiler heavy. And not just for Alfyn’s story either.

So... that set of scenes in Alfyn’s chapter 4. The one when Alfyn’s trying to remember what the cure for the disease he caught as a child is.

It’s a little odd how Alfyn states that he couldn’t even remember his own symptoms until Zeph had reminded him. Then a little later, he could all of a sudden remember exactly what Graham said he’d used for the cure.

Seems quite story convenient for him to remember so easily, right?

Until you think about how you have to Inquire within the flashback for Alfyn to remember.

This scene in Alfyn’s story (and primarily the fact that you, the player, have to Inquire to get this information) along with the scene in Olberic’s chapter 3 where Erhardt mentions that it seemed as though Olberic was ‘protected by a greater power’ seems to indicate that the player is a noticeable presence within Orsterra. Since this is the same devs as Bravely, I wouldn’t be surprised if they continued to have the idea of the player being a Celestial.

I should also mention that the fight between the twin blades shown at the start of Olberic’s story was not a battle the player fights. Their duel in chapter 3, on the other hand? That was a battle the player has input for. Likely, the ‘greater power’ Erhardt was referring to was the player (or maybe just.... the turn based combat I guess??)

I’ve yet to rewatch the other stories again to see if I can find more evidence, but... yeah I’m pretty sure that the player is a Celestial, and assists the travellers.

Tl;dr: I’m thinking about this way too much but you know what? It’s fun and interesting to think about.
