She’s got to admit that’s pretty cute. Sometimes she takes the winter weather for granted. It almost always snows this time of year, and it’s beautiful for a while but it’s a nuisance if you’re on a mission. It adds another dangerous factor to the mission. “Hopefully it does, but make sure you get some sleep.”

Until now she was sure it was just because she was cold, but now he’s brought attention to it. Shoulders shrug her cloak back into place. “Cold,” she lies. It wouldn’t surprise her if her forehead managed to call her bluff and blush in her cheeks’ place. “We’ve been walking for a while and the wind has been picking up.”

Through the blush, Sakura puts a smile on her face and fights her instinctive thoughts about shutting herself in. She’s trying to be more open. It’s terrifying, but she feels better when she’s open with Naruto. Karin is just        her own beast. “You need snow too, Karin,” she giggles.

“I’m not tired...,” words trail in her clear exhaustion. She rests her head on Sasuke’s shoulder, despite his warnings. “They said it’s going to snow. I can feel it.” At the very least she’s trying to will it to snow.

She doesn’t know why she cares so much this year. Maybe it’s all the nights with just a campfire to keep them warm and the lonely nights in the woods she spends by herself. Everything feels different this year. In a good way, finally. The trees even feel in peace. No one else might be able to tell, except perhaps Yamato who somehow managed to keep busy while still helping her as best he could. 

Arms wrap around his, “You’re just trying to be a killjoy.” Her chin sits on his shoulder, lips smile up at him with lidded eyes closed shut. “It will be beautiful. White snow sparkling on trees and glittering in the moonlight.”

“I was confused,” is what she does admit. “I didn’t think you were a bad person.” Didn’t know what to think really. “So I just pretended it never happened and you did too so I guessed I was doing something right.” Because nothing had changed. Not on the outside. She still had this giant crush on him that everyone seemed to know about without her saying anything. She just wasn’t so obvious about all the time anymore, which is easy when you can talk about bio lab homework instead.
