Baymax liked this human. He liked her a lot. Even if his hard drive was faulty and that virus was sending little electric jolts down his steel interior, he still liked her. She looked very different from Hiro and his friends, though her hair reminded him of Honey Lemon. Maybe a family member? He thought about scanning her again to compare their DNA but decided against it.
"I am a healthcare companion. I was created with the intent of helping out those who are sick and injured." he explained cheerfully. He could go into more detail about his programming and physical properties- could describe his whole internal structure down to every last bolt- but he had a feeling she didn't want to know that. Baymax was good at reading people thanks to his scanner.
"I am sorry, but I do not believe I caught your name." Introductions were an important part of establishing a friendship. Baymax wanted to be her friend. Maybe Hiro could design a snazzy looking outfit for her so she could join their team. According to his initial scan, she was very healthy and fit. She would be a good addition.

Baymax looked between the human's face and her finger. Without a scan, it was evident that she was in pain and that just wouldn't do. "Please h-hold still while I scan-scan-scan you." he said, bending over just the slightest. Something was seriously wrong with his speech software. As soon as this lovely lady was healed, he was going to re-download his language driver to see if that would fix the problem.
His eyes blinked and the scan was done. Easy and fast. "Scan complete. The temp-temperature on your finger is.. sig..nificant..ly greater than the recommended temperature." The screen on his chest lit up to show an outline of the human body, the figure's finger blinking red. "Medical solution: anesthetic spray to re-re-reduce pain and an inflammatory spray to reduce rednessandswelling." If Baymax could feel happiness, he would have been delighted that he was finally fulfilling his purpose in life.
Waddling closer, Baymax extended his hand out to the girl. The fingers on his other hand all folded down, minus his index finger. The very tip opened up and a small nozzle popped out. "This may burn." he informed her, tone very positive as he moved the nozzle closer and gently sprayed her finger with one spray, then the other. He scanned her again to make sure that the injury was taken care- a small green check appeared in the bottom left corner of his visual screen- and that that was in fact that only injury.
"You have been treated." Baymax would have smiled if he had a mouth. Standard protocol read that he should inform her on how to deactivate him. Deactivation was the last thing he wanted to do. "How else may I be of assistance?" he asked.

Something wasn't right. There was a system error in his hard drive, a new program that had been downloaded. Baymax certainly didn't program it- he had been folded up neatly in his charging station for three days now. In fact, no one had done it, not unless the culprit also deleted the memory of his activation as well as his new programming. It wasn't entirely out of the question, but Baymax had only ever been calibrated and fine tuned by Tadashi. As far as he knew, no one else realized he existed.
Three days, eight hours, fourteen minutes and five seconds. Six seconds. Seven seconds. Time  hardly meant a thing to him even if he was well aware of it passing. His battery was charged and his design was sturdy. Baymax would be around for a long, long time and should something happen to his body, his chip was incredibly durable. But that didn't mean he liked waiting. Baymax wanted to activate and be helpful. That was his sole purpose of course.
He whirred quietly as he internally scanned himself again, an automated feature that happened every few hours, when his auditory sensors picked it up. A cry of distress! The light on his station flashed and the top popped open. Within a matters of seconds, Baymax was inflating and all of his programming and mechanics were turned on. It was time to help someone out.
He found the person in need of medical attention almost immediately. She was the only other person in the room. As he waddled over, his CPU started to act up. It felt like it was getting shocked and his fans were spinning faster than usual. Maybe he was overheating? That's what it felt like. Baymax was usually very warm, perfect for giving hugs, but this was something else entirely. After all, it wasn't as if he was making the decision to heat himself up internally.
"Hello." he greeted as he walked over. It was a girl, the first one he had ever met. Baymax suddenly worried for her safety. He worried for the safety of everyone, that was his job technically, but there was something about her that made her his number on priority. Tadashi and Hiro who?
"I am B-B-Baymax, your personal healthcare companion-ion." he said, voice chip glitching out and stuttering. He paused and blinked, raising a hand to gentle poke at the vinyl covering his voice system. Strange. Everything felt fine and was working properly. It had to be the faulty programming. "I heard a sound of distre..s..s and was alerted to your n..e..e..d for medical attention. Iseverythingokay?" It was the usual speech he gave when activated, but certain parts were slowed down or sped up. Oh no. Baymax's database pinpointed the route of the problem here.
A virus.
Love Machines // Baymax & Rapunzel
Day Three in San Fransokyo, and Rapunzel was even more in love with the city than she had been on the first day. Come to think of it, the blonde was in an extremely good mood (even for her). Still slightly elated from Cass’s cooking class last night, she spent her morning walking on air.
Scooping up her last bite of Natto, Rapunzel watched passing pedestrians from her park bench. Now that she had assimilated a bit more to this land’s culture— bought a pair of “jeans” and a white T-shirt with a word painted across the center in a language she didn’t understand— she wasn’t getting so many weird looks from the locals. Her hair still brought in a bit of attention, but the hair certainly was less outlandish since it was in the tight braid and didn’t drag on the road behind her.
Once she set the empty bowl on the bench beside her, Rapunzel began thinking of what her plan was for the day. Yesterday she went to the museum of Ancient San Francisco, the day before that she simply wandered… So today she decided to search for a library!
After throwing her trash in a large metal can, Rapunzel stopped the next person who walked by her.
"Excuse me? Could you tell me where the nearest library is?"
The woman she stopped was elderly, and wore the brightest, most sparkly red pants Rapunzel had ever seen.
"Well sure, my dear!" she said with a crooked smile. "Now, the closest book store is on the corner of 1st and Matsuya, but if you really want to read somethin’ interesting, I suggest you head over to  the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology. The college has just about the largest library in the city."
With a plethora of ‘thanks you’s and smiles, Rapunzel copied down the address and directions and then began her walk to the university.
It was high noon once she arrived, and after walking for so long she could imagine nothing better than sitting in an “air conditioned” room, in a large armchair, with four books stacked up on either side of her.
Holding a hand up to her forehead, trying to block the sunshine from her eyes, Rapunzel stopped just before the front doors to stare at the massive building. Everything in San Fransokyo was so big. With a deep breath, she yanked open the heavy door and made her way down a multitude of hallways trying to find the library. There were no signs, no indicators that she was even getting close, but the blonde continued walking. The rooms she had been walking by for the passed five minutes were the opposite of what Rapunzel thought a library should be like. The tables were long and covered in strangely shaped glass bottles, tubes filled with green liquid, and there were white shiny sheets boardering the walls that were scattered with lines of numbers and symbols. Was this still part of the college?
Curious about the liquid inside of the bottles, Rapunzel picked one up. It was filled with a blue substance— the color was beautiful. She had never seen a blue that was almost green in the same way and.. glowed? Wanting to get a closer look, the blonde poured a bit on the table, then without really thinking it through, reached out with her pointer finger and touched it.
It burned.
It hurt so badly, it took a moment for her mind to fully register the pain. Her eyes went wide and mouth hung open for a moment before-
"OW!! Ow ow ow ow ow ooooouch!!”

If you had the chance to trade somebody elses life for Tadashi so they would have been in that fire instead who would you have chosen?
Baymax whirred as the question fully processed. “I am sorry, but your question cannot be answered. I am a healthcare companion and it is against my programming to hurt other people. Therefore, I would be unable to trade one life for another. What happened to Tadashi is unfortunate, but I would not be capable of saving his life by endangering the life of someone else. I am sorry if this answer is unsatisfactory.”

NOOOOOOOO BAYMAX, I have a huge stomach ache. :( What do I do to feel better?
"Diagnosis incomplete, a full body scan must be performed to find the cause of your pain. However, it is recommended to drink something with either ginger or mint in it to help with the pain. Make sure to get plenty of rest and hopefully the pain will pass. If not, make sure to seek further aid from a healthcare professional."

Baymax tilted his head to the side as he watched Tadashi. His speech was rapid and seemed very peppy and "up". A quick scan let the robot know that Tadashi's dopamine levels were very high. He was happy. Being happy was a good thing, although Baymax was curious as to what his injury was. Maybe another human was in need of assistance? Baymax started to look around the room again, but it really was just him and Tadashi.
He felt a hand on his chest and looked down, watching as Tadashi exited out of the pain meter. He wasn't even aware that that particular program could be externally shut down that way. Raising his own hand, he gently slid his thumb across the vinyl to mimic Tadashi's actions. Nothing happened. How interesting. He filed that away in his memory banks for reference.
"Spending time outside is critical for maintaining your physical health." Baymax noted as Tadashi motioned for him to follow. Baymax hadn't had the opportunity to follow his medical programming yet and he was hoping that he would get a chance to help someone out soon. That was his purpose after all.
The healthcare companion took a step forward and for a moment, everything was going smoothly. Left foot, right foot. Left foot, right foot. He waddled a little as he walked and the vinyl on his legs squeaked as he walked. But after a few steps, something went wrong. The internal structure in his left leg buckled as he took a step and slowly but surely, Baymax fell down to the ground with a soft thud.
He lay there for a moment, simply blinking and processing what happened. There was an error in his left knee-joint. A loose screw perhaps? "It appears that I have fallen." he stated with a certain amount of surprise that was always evident in his voice. "This does not make me a more helpful companion. I cannot function properly if I cannot walk."
Needs a Little Fine Tuning // Tadashi and Baymax
All the bottled up excitement of the morning rolled through Tadashi again, showing itself in the sunbright grin that spread on his face. Forgetting about the slate board, he ran a chalky hand up into his hair, leaving white dust in his hair and on the bill of his SFIT baseball cap.
"Still works," he said with a happy sigh. "Somewhere in the middle of lecture, I thought I dreamed the whole thing up. You’re perfect, Big Guy! Exactly as programmed — the unpacking, the greeting, the voice chip, the scripts — aah, even the display screen!”
Beyond excited, the robotics major raised a palm to press lightly against the far leftside of Baymax’s display screen, finding it warm and soft to the touch. Perfect. Perfect. With a quick side-swipe of his thumb against the vinyl, he closed out of the pain meter program. Margin controls were located just beyond the visible screen. Briefly, it occurred to him that it could be more intuitive, but the latest tablets and info screens tended to keep to this streamlined programming. In any case, the printed user’s manual for Baymax 1.0 would explain everything in detail. Baymax was designed to be self-operational, after all.
"Sorry for the false alarm, buddy," he said, and gave the robot a pat on the shoulder. "I’m not hurt — just so excited it almost hurts! We’ve still got a lot of tests to— oh, I forgot the — okay, no, it’s fine, nevermind.”
Setting the slate board aside, Tadashi took several steps backward, moving toward the door of his lab and beckoning with one hand for Baymax to follow.
"This is Tadashi Hamada, and this is the 85th test of my robotics project! Follow me, okay Baymax? I gotta check your mobility and object detection sensors. It’s time we took our tests out of the lab!" Tadashi pushed the door open behind him, grinning eagerly as he waited for his life’s work to follow along.

Baymax couldn't sleep, but this was as close as he could get. He was currently folded up and resting in his charging port. The light on the outside was green which meant that his battery was fully charged. All of his software was currently shut off, everything except for his scanner and auditory receiver. Every two hours, his scanner would go off and he would internally scan himself to make sure that all of his hardware was functioning correctly. Should he encounter any issue, the light on his charging port would turn red and his activation feature would stop.
He was on his fourth scan when he heard it. A sound of distress. With a barely audible whir, the light blinked white and Baymax turned on. He unfolded and inflated in just under three seconds. Before he was standing up perfectly straight he had scanned the room to see where he was and what was happening. Status report: Tadashi's lab. There was one life presence in the room and the voice that activated him matched the file he had for Tadashi. His creator.
Baymax, now fully operational, stepped out of his charger and took two gentle steps forward. It was important to be close to whoever activated him. Should they require medical assistance, it was essential for him to be close by in order to properly help them.
"Hello." He raised his hand and swiveled his arm in a small circle in greeting. According to his database, this was a wave and it was crucial part of human interaction. "I am Baymax, your personal healthcare companion. I was alerted to the need for medical attention when you said "Owww". He paused for just a second before continuing with his procedure.
"On a scale from one to ten, how would you rate your pain?" he asked as his chest lit up. All ten numbers were listed, above them a little picture of a face that demonstrated how intense the pain was for each one. Baymax looked at his chest before turning his attention to Tadashi, patiently waiting for him to answer. This step was important for diagnosing what was wrong.
Needs a Little Fine Tuning // Tadashi and Baymax
"This is ah… Tadashi Hamada. And this the 84th test. What do you say, Big Guy?"
"…It works. IT WORKS! OH! This is amazing, you… you work! I knew it, I knew it, I kneeewww iiiiit!"
"Wait ‘til my brother sees you. You’re gonna help so many people, buddy. So many. That’s all for now. I am satisfied with my care.”
                                           (●—●) The 85th Test
Tadashi Hamada’s neural transmitter level was, indeed, elevated — made all the more clear by the brilliant smile on his face and the way he couldn’t sit still at his desk. For the entire lecture, he tapped his foot, drummed his fingers, doodle a pair of distinctive circular black eyes on his notebook over and over again, and most of all gazed at the clock above the lecture hall doors with the excitement of accomplishment and adventure on his face.
That last overnight push in his lab had paid off — Baymax worked. The nurse robot Tadashi had poured his heart and soul into for the last few years had spoken his scripted phrases, in a voice programmed to be reassuring and gentle, and had even completed a full-body scan without any of his vinyl arms flailing off or thwapping Tadashi repeatedly in the face.
It was amazing.
But the successful 84th test had been first thing that morning, literally fifteen minutes before his first class of the day, and so that magic moment had been cut far too short. The moment class ended, the robotics major snatched up his bags and hauled away at a full sprint, before his curious friends could even ask.
They were used to Tadashi’s almost eccentric devotion to his project by then — through the highs of his bursting out of his lab and spinning his friends into tight hugs, as well as the lows of spotting him sitting at his desk and thudding his forehead against it in sleep-deprived misery — and so they let him go, expecting they would all hear about it soon.
Taking bounds and leaps down the corridors of the Ito Ishioka Robotics Lab, Tadashi made his way back into the nerd lab, pushes through the door to his work space and tossing his backpack aside onto his rolling chair. He fumbled a bit for the slate board on his desk, rubbing the chalked “84th test” out with his fist, and turning a bit to find the chalk. Armed with everything he needed to record another test, Tadashi reached for Baymax’s power button.
"Alright Big Guy, let’s—" He paused mid-reach, and a smile lit on his face.
"Actually, let’s do this the real way… Baymax? Owwww?”

"Uhm Baymax ... I may have blasted Wasabi with my foam canon ... Could you just- you know- make sure he's not dead while I run and get apology food? You're a life saver!"
"Saving lives is part of my protocol. I will gladly watch over and take care of any injuries that Wasabi may have sustained from your "foam canon". For "apology food", I recommend chicken noodle soup. It can be very beneficial to those who are sick and/or injured."

Rosetta was overcome with curiousity as she stared at the giant white... Marshmallow. At least, she thought it was a marshmallow. She had only seen a few marshmallows from the human world, so she was not quite sure. Either way, whatever this was, was massive. She flew over to it, making circles around it as she tried to figure out what it was.
Baymax wasn’t technically lost- his internal GPS system let him know where he was at all times- but he wasn’t exactly sure how he got here. The only moment cataloged into his recent memory banks was his activation. Baymax was currently scanning the area, trying to find whoever turned him on because surely they needed his assistance, when something darted across his scanner. His head swiveled as he targeted the movement and after a quick scan, he determined that it was a tiny life form. Strange. His data search yielded no results. “Hello. I am Baymax, your personal healthcare companion… are you the one who activated me?"
