Honestly it boils down to reparenting yourself & rewiring your own neuronal pathways & telling yourself a firm “stop” when you notice your mind slipping down negative loopholes & being present in the moment & enjoying being mid task rather than waiting for it to end & not thinking of inertia as your baseline and natural way of living

sometimes your distress does indicate you should stop and respect your limitations. at other times it's more of a baby aquatic mammal being introduced to water for the first time thing. Too bad the difference is so hard to tell.

it’s just hard not to think about the fact that in 1915, JRR Tolkien went to war not with but certainly in the same army and many of the same battles as his 3 best school friends, all nicely upper class young men who had never known much loss, and only he and one other came back alive - and a couple decades later, he wrote a book in which 3 nicely upper class young men (and one very excellent gardener) who have never known much loss go to war together, or at least they start out together, and they all come home alive. (Though one cannot bear it, and does not stay.)

Mistakes are easy to make. Sometimes we get confused, sometimes we aren’t thorough, sometimes we forget things, and sometimes we don’t even know what went wrong but it led to a problem nonetheless. Whatever mistakes you have made and whatever the reason, please remember to be kind to yourself today. Everyone in the world has made a mistake. Most people have already made a mistake today! You will never be able to guarantee perfection, but you can handle imperfection with grace.

Alphonse is one of the characters of all time I think about him constantly. He’s a 14 year old boy’s soul stuck in a giant scary suit of armor. He’s a gentleman and he’s kind and he has good conflict deescalation skills but his body is a giant scary suit of armor. He befriends every evil henchman he comes across. He loves kittens. He’s a little shit to his older brother sometimes, as all younger brothers are. But his body is a giant scary suit of armor. Arakawa really popped off with Alphonse
