all the questions

          working on tech is a big one. tony has very shitty coping mechanisms when it comes to his emotions; he drinks, he has sex, he drives very fast down winding streets. things that can either get him killed immediately ( the driving ) or in the near future ( drinking & raging parties. ) these things don’t really calm him down though, they’re more like an attempt to forget. he wants to put whatever caused him to get upset in the first place out of his mind as quickly as possible. which is where working on things comes in. when he’s got a problem or things just seem overwhelming - he works on his inventions. whether it’s just tinkering with one of his robots, or refining an iron man suit doesn’t matter. he has any number of blue prints rolling around in the back of his head at any given time so it’s easy to just pick one ( or four ) to keep him occupied. his hands have something to do, his brain has an outlet, and sometimes he might even come to the solution of a larger problem or get to a place where he can better analyze himself and how he feels. working on his tech is basically his self care - but just like with any good thing, there’s a chance of overdoing it which is a whole different discussion for another day. it is however the best way to calm tony down. give him something to do with his hands, give him a problem he can solve with machines and technology and he’ll calm down eventually. 

                              pepper is also very good at calming tony down. js.
