I was thinking about Conor and Kel's relationship ( as one does ) and couldn't help but notice this parallel.
Kel thinks in the beginning how he's the prince's shield and how a shield must be iron. He's Conor's unbreakable armor and thus protects him. But he also does more,as Anjelica notes — he strengthens Conor, humanizes him grounds him, makes him see and understand more than his privilege could have ever let him.
By the end of the Ragpicker King, Conor is in a state of disarray. Kel has been hauled into the Trick, that too by his own order. He wants to believe Kel but he can't with the amount of evidence against him and the uproar of the Charters. He believes he's alone and takes upon himself to fulfill Kel's role.
It makes me think about this line in Sword Catcher, about the different kind of iron. And here we see it— Kel becomes the iron that binds and strengthens Conor, the one that makes him a greater man, the iron that holds him together, welding him to be something better. And Conor had to become his own iron, which takes the shape of destruction and wounds. . He cuts them away from his life—Lin, Kel, the people most important to him. Furthermore, he can't trust Joliver, Mayesh has been written off, his own father is dying and the girl he took as his wife and a possibile comrade ran away with a wanted criminal. He's at the lowest he can possibility be. As such, they both represent two sides of the same coin and how they wield themselves differently with the same weapon - one to defend and one to attack.
#it's so interesting how they both tie into each other#Conor taking upon Kel's mantle is his destruction#and Kel's role is his own demise#I love themj#chronicles of castellane#sword catcher#the ragpicker king#conor aurelian#kel saren

Sleepy floozies

Trojans again! They all fell asleep after the fourth match Jean insisted on putting or smth like that.
I'm putting the decor version as well, cause I did it entirely and wouldn't want that carpet to be left unseen (I had to do the bg fully cause i couldn't figure out the perspective with their gigantic bodies - then i got carried away). This and the papasan chair, obviously.
Had a lot of fun on this one.
Edit : I had not read tgr chapter 20 before drawing this. Now that I have, I believe those of you who also have can imagine my mental state.

the chronicles of castellane is so silly because here is one guy. he's called Kellian and is the sword catcher, királar, he protects and defends. he is the the unbreakable armour, honed to be a sacrificial lamb and a weapon since the age of 10 and submits his life to serving the crown prince, the next in line to be the king. And that's a part-bird guy named Conor. I would kill myself actually,
