Runner [Part 3]
Summary: OFC occasionally acts as a carrier for Harry and the mob. One night, a drop goes bad and Harry goes looking for her.
Part 1
Part 2
Stepping out of the shower, Harry dried off and wrapped the towel around his waist. He walked out into the master bedroom and found Jan folding laundry. As he walked back he noticed she didn’t bother looking up at him. “Gina gone to school?” he asked. “Yep,” she said in a short, clipped voice.
Harry’s jaw tensed slightly, annoyed by her coldness. She had been growing more and more distant these days, especially since she’d mentioned contacting a solicitor. He thought he had put that idea to rest when he told her things would change, that he had a plan.
Yet weeks had gone by, death threats and too many late nights were stacking up and Jan was reaching her limit. Her only concern was her daughter. Jan had all but stopped speaking to Harry and was now sleeping in one of the guest rooms. And just these past three nights Gina had been staying over at a friend's house. He was wondering if Jan was planning to make a move.
He started to get dressed, pondering what options he had left in retaining his relationship with Jan. If it just meant for the sake of Gina. He had intended to depart from the mob life. He told himself since he was a husband and father, their safety was too important and he’d just have to find an honest living. But how much did an honest living make? And exactly what skills did he have that didn’t involve intimidation and physical assault? Furthermore, did he really want to leave the mob life?
The fact was, he was good at what he did. Did he always enjoy it, no. But he knew the job. He liked the respect it gave him, the power and wealth it offered him. Tightening his belt, he sat on the edge of the bed to put on a pair of socks. His phone vibrated beside him and he picked it up.
“Hello?” Harry answered, only half interested in who the other caller was. He heard Jan behind him closing a dresser drawer a bit harder than necessary, no doubt annoyed he was receiving a call just after arriving home.
“Well, fuck-a-doodle-do! I guess it’s alright that I wait around for two hours for you to not pick me!” Rowan’s melodious Irish accent rang out over the phone. She used a burner and changed it often, so he never knew her number. Remembering he was supposed to take her to pick up a new bike he groaned. Then after that, he had to hunt down an O’Leary gang member and make an example of them. “Bloody hell. Yeah, well, you’re gonna have to wait another hour Ro,” he said, standing up and grabbing his keys from the nightstand. “Un-fuckin’-believable,” she moaned and hung up the phone.
Harry came downstairs, saw Jan in the kitchen. “I’m going out,” he said, in an attempt to keep communication open. She nodded but said nothing. He paused, wondering if there was anything he could do, but he knew what she wanted, and he was beginning to realize he couldn’t give that to her.

Runner [Part 2]
Part 1
Summary: OFC occasionally acts as a carrier for Harry and the mob. One night, a drop goes bad and Harry goes looking for her.
"What did she say happened?" Conrad said, sitting down behind a desk, scribbling something onto a document.
"Jumped by the O'Leary gang," Harry said, hands in pockets standing in front of the desk. Conrad's eyes shot up, brow furrowed. "Those idiots? They barely can tie their own shoes. Fucking Richie, he's behind it no doubt."
Harry shrugged, but he didn't disagree.
"Where's the lass now?" He said, returning his gaze downward and flipping to the next page. Conrad had an affinity towards Rowan, her being Irish gave her preference in Conrad's eyes, but he also found her amusing. Maeve surprisingly did as well.
"Had to drag her scrawny ass to get medical attention. Then I got her back to her flat."
"Well, she's a proper Irish cailín, doesn't much like an Englishman telling her what to do," Conrad said, chuckling.
Harry rubbed his left shoulder where the lamp she had thrown at him made contact. "Yeah, well, she's fine now. But her bike was totaled."
"Christ, and she didn't lose her fucking mind over it?"
"The morphine helped with that," Harry said, remembering how she had acted after he had gotten her back to the flat.
"Where's your bike. I didn't see it out front," he had said, pulling into the car park.
"She's dead, H. My beautiful girl is dead," she said dramatically. Harry grimaced slightly, ready to deal with a complete mental breakdown on Rowan's part, as that bike meant everything to her. But she simply stared out the window and said, "Not cool taking my clothes off by the way."
"The fuck? You undressed yourself. I helped clean you up, or would you have preferred to have fallen into a coma in your own filth?" He snapped.
She turned her head sluggishly toward him, "Oh don't act so high and mighty. Like you didn't enjoy taking a peak beneath me bodice."
Harry reddened, a blend of annoyance, embarrassment and arousal heating his face. "Rowan, I have not slept in over twenty-four hours. Can you please tone down the sass and show a bit of appreciation."
"Sorry, you're right. Thank you, for taking me to hospital. Oh, and cheers for not pistol whipping me in my own flat."
"God damn it, Rowan!" Harry muttered, opened his car door abruptly and hauled her into her flat.
"Well, buy her a new bike. And find those O'Leary fuckers and tear them a new arsehole," Conrad said, pulling Harry back into the present moment.
"Right, on it..." Harry said. But first he needed to go home, take a shower and deal with more disappointing sighs and looks from his ever growing estranged wife, Jan. He'd make her see things would be fine. He needed time, that's it. He still loved her...didn't he? He shook the thought away, of course he did. "Go home, Harry, a warm shower and cup of coffee will set you straight," he told himself, as he simultaneously pushed away an image of Rowan's naked body.
