Well guys… I did it! The reason for my LONG hiatus has finally reached its end. This past weekend I walked across the stage to receive my Master’s of Social Work. When I started my bariatric journey and started to struggle with mental health and body issues and found little to no resources specifically tailored to wls patients… I realized that I wanted to be the change that the world needed. So I enrolled in grad school and spent two very long and very hard years to achieve my dream. I have interned at a local hospital’s inpatient behavioral health unit and have actually been hired on part time. I am still not sure how exactly I will make a difference for the WLS population but I will get there.

Getting Better
Today’s getting better, thankfully.
I went to the gym today, and didn’t eat junk.
Had a delicious dinner :)

Chicken with some fat free cheddar cheese and mushrooms. Fried zucchini. And I splurged a bit with a slice of Italian bread and butter.

Slowdown to Speed Up ~ I have been recently drilling on my rowing technique to slow down so I can go faster with the help of my homie Shane over at @darkhorserowing sounds backwards I know~ As fitness pros and coaches we have to be willing to slow down & learn from those who are more experienced and better then us in certain arenas (rowing for example). My guess would be 99% of people (coaches included) using a rower jump on it with little to no technical training (I know I did years ago) and that’s a recipe for disaster. If you as a coach are not working on your craft (the mechanics of rowing for example) and getting coached yourself how can you teach your athletes proper form? You can’t …and while I will never be a world class rower I can practice & drill down to be proficient enough to help our athletes be the best they can be. And that’s what we as coaches should always strive for “to make our athletes better”. For reference my technique has improved tenfold and my current 1k 2K 5K Personal bests are: 3:01 - 6:37 - 18:18 ~ would love to hear what you guys are putting up for times these days? What I am slowly realizing
It’s crazy it took me this long to realize this. We’re talking 8 years, guys.
Diets suck.
Healthy eating isn’t about getting rid of your favorite foods. It’s about making your favorite foods healthier.
So if you read my latest post, I wrote out a long drawn out plan to increase my calorie intake and slowly improve my metabolism. But I decided - WHO CARES what the scale says. Sure it is an indication that what I’m doing is working, but SCREW LOSING WEIGHT.
I care about being healthy and happy with what I’m eating, not drowning myself in water to keep my stomach quiet and only having vegetables for lunch everyday.
So screw the diet - I decided I’m going to aim for being as WELL BALANCED as I can, and eat just like the food pyramid.
Here are the first steps I took (focusing on Grains because I completely removed them from my diet previously):
- Eating a mix of whole grain and veggie pasta with half sauteed kale and peas in pasta sauce.
- Eating whole grain nutty bread (literally my favorite bread in the world)
- Eating grilled chicken on a sandwich instead of lunch meat
- Only using low fat condiments (like Mustard)
- Add Kale to literally anything I can (my sandwiches as well as my pasta).
- Eat a serving of yogurt a day (for breakfast)
- Every Snack is a fruit or veggie (sometimes I’ll eat fruit snacks too)
So if I do say so myself, this doesn’t feel like a diet to me. I’m only a week in, but I’ve NEVER let myself eat pasta twice a week or even a sandwich (sometimes I would allow it on low calorie bread).
What this is, is SUSTAINABLE. Something that I can see myself doing for the rest of my life. And I mean, I weighed myself and I lost a pound so far this week. So I mustn’t be doing super terrible!
Diets Die Hard. Lifestyle Choices are immortal.

Body Positivity has been taken over by people who just want an excuse to stuff their gobs. It should be a movement supporting acid burn victims, people with vitiligo, amputees, etc - differences that should be normalized.

🎂 LOW CAL VEGAN CAKE BATTER 🎂 ¼ cup almond flour (110) ½ tsp sprinkles (10) ½ tsp Vanilla extract (6) 2 tsp raw sugar (30) 1 tsp cashew milk (2) 1/8 tsp salt (0) 1/8 cup warm water (0) Total: 158 kcal
Just Mix all the ingredients and tah-dah! It is ready to eat! To store, refrigerate it. It tastes really good when you microwave it 10 seconds before eating ~
