I like Sage as a character on the boys but the final episode kind of had me scratching my head. Instead of demonstrating how smart she is she just showed up at the very end to tell the audience that this was her plan all along? And that was it?
I want to see her thriving and fucking over everyone just because she can, don't get me wrong, but i feel like the writers are falling into the 'smartest character ever' trap. Instead of having to carefully consider the consequences of things and create a plot to suit the plan of a super genius they can completely disregard planning and then play the 'she knew this was gonna happen all along because she's THAT smart' card. And that feels cheap. It kind of ruins the build up of the season for me.
Like i want to see sage sending everyone spiralling. I want to see her beat the boys at every turn. Shes come face to face with them now and she's got them figured out. The only reason they get away is because she's playing with them, or she might need them for something down the line, but you can't really tell and hughie and the gang are literally losing their minds trying to outmanouvre her and avoid the trap she has laid. Homelanders quaking in his polished boots because she knows exactly which buttons to press to keep him in line. Sage is the only person who has made him feel weak. She's pulling all the strings behind vought, she has a monopoly on compound v, and she's directing a puppeteer president to do her bidding.
But i think that all that insane potential is going to be overlooked, and a vague plan is going to be hinted at throughout the final season, only for sage's underwhelming grand reveal later on to serve as a plot-hole filler for the writers.
I dont want a reveal. I dont want her to be passive for most of the plot just for everything to work out for her anyway. I want to see her in action. I loved the dynamic between sage and homelander this season and i desperately need more of that. I need to see her scheming and manipulating and succeeding. I need to see her winning.

Dean's boyfriends ranked by how normal they were about him (from most to least):
4. Lee Webb. As normal as one could get about Dean Winchester. Like yeah, he tried to kill him, but that was completely unrelated to them being exes. Even able to have a nice, friendly reunion with Dean, no hard feelings at all (again, until Lee tried to kill him).
3. Benny Lafitte. Genuinely probably the closest Dean got to a normal relationship with a man and they probably could have made it work if they weren't both hung up on other people. Benny did end up sacrificing his life for Dean, after Dean ghosted him even, but Dean was only partly the motivation there. Still, seeing the dynamic between Dean and Cas in Purgatory and willingly inserting yourself is kind of bonkers.
2. Crowley. Man started this relationship thinking he had the upper hand, then caught feelings and fully shattered himself on the altar of Dean Winchester. Went around telling people that Dean completes him after they had a regrettable summer fling, then sacrificed his life for him because that's just what falling in love with late-seasons Dean does to a motherfucker.
(Special mention of Chuck, who while completely abnormal about Dean was never his boyfriend, as much as he wishes.)
1. Castiel. And it's not even close. In this competition, Cas takes the gold, silver and bronze. Laid a hand on Dean in hell and never had a normal thought again. You just know he had fantasies for years about confessing his love for Dean while dying in his arms before it actually happened. Fortunately for him, Dean matches his freak perfectly.

Rereading the Lord of the Rings series recently, and it's so fascinating to me how much the series is a denial of the typical juvenile power-fantasy that is associated with the fantasy genre.
Like, the power-fantasy is the temptation the Ring uses against people It tempts Boromir with becoming the "one true king" that could save his people with fantastic power. It tempts Sam with being the savior of Middle Earth and turning the ruin that is Mordor into a great garden. It tempts Gandalf and Galadriel with being the messianic figure of legend who brings salvation to Middle Earth and great glory to herself.
The things the Ring tempts people with are becoming the typical protagonists of fantasy stories that we expect to see. and over and over we see that accepting that role, that fantasy of being the benevolent all-powerful hero, is a bad thing. LotR is about how power, even power wielded with benevolent intent, is corrupting.
And its so fascinating how so much of modern fantasy buys into the very fantasy LotR denies. Most modern fantasy is about being that Heroic power-fantasy. About good amassing power to rival evil. But LotR dares not to. It dares to be honest that there is no world where anyone amasses that power and remains good.
I guess that's one of the reasons its so compelling.

People keep saying Francesca is bicurious but y'all….thats a lesbian awakening if ever I saw one
her storyline this season is literally like a regency AU of me and my ex (only without the getting married part). My ex is on every level my brain twin, we still get on like a house on fire, but me feeling no attraction to him made me realise 'if its not going to be this guy, then its literally not going to be a guy'
and thats what we fucking saw in that wedding scene
Francesca starts off the season uninterested in romance, but wants to get a husband this year to get this whole marraige thing over and done with (read: to fulfil the heteronormative role dictated to her by society).
And lucky her, she finds this guy, this wonderful brilliant guy who she clicks with instantly, who she vibes with on every level. And so she thinks 'right, this must be it. this must be love'. So she marries him, and they go in for the kiss, and she realises as they kiss….oh no. she feels nothing. its just…contact. no butterflies, no fireworks, just mouths. but she thinks 'oh well, maybe i'm just not a passionate person, maybe everyone else is exaggerating, maybe this muted affection is what love feels like for me'
and then she meets a pretty girl and her heart explodes
like I don't get how people can watch Francesca's desperate scramble to get married and get this whole performative courtship thing over and done with and then the way her face falls coming out of that first kiss when no one else is looking and not think this poor girl just realised that getting married didn't fix it. didn't fix her.
that girl is a fucking lesbian.

Thinking about that scene in Queen Charlotte where she asks Violet, “How did you marry off two kids in two years?”
Violet really said, “Bet I could double that next season. Bet all four could be love matches.”

i cant get over the king charles portrait. they made that thing to age in his place. that painting hangs in the house of a too-friendly family you find in the post apocalyptic wasteland who inexplicably has a ready supply of fresh meat. if mario jumped into that painting he wouldn't find a charming platformer he would be flayed and hanged like a medieval criminal by an unseeable force in a droning red void. that painting is a color blindness test for people who work in IT but believe in the divine right of kings. that painting is going to weep the sequel to blood. after he dies charles is gonna crawl outta that thing like sadako.
