IMG_3763 by Hello Baton Rouge Via Flickr: Stellenbosch The Burgerhuis (Burgher House) Also known as Fick House, 40 Bloem St (corner Bloem and Alexander) is a well-preserved Dutch House. Inside is an excellent cultural museum with collection of traditional furniture, kitchen equipment, etc. that can be visited in office hours. The property was completed in about 1797 for the original landowner Anthonie Fick Stellenbosch, is the second oldest town in South Africa - the house is one of a group of historical buildings that surround the village green, also know as the Braak. Stellenbosch’s village green was laid out as early as 1703 as a parade ground that today lies at the heart of the oak-lined streets, water canals and beautiful white-washed Cape Dutch style buildings that are the hallmark of this beautiful town. The Burgerhuis is regarded as a typical dwelling of the more well-to-do citizen of the old Cape, and the museum captures the elegance of the 17th and 18th centuries most wonderfully. The town council have tried to maintain a replica of the private dwelling the building would have been in its day, although when they first received the house is was in something of a state. Stellenbosch is full of buildings of historical interest, particularly Dorp Street where one of the longest rows of old buildings survives, many of them run as little shops and restaurants.

IMG_3743 by Hello Baton Rouge Via Flickr: Sunset overlooking the old port and Le Suquet from The Splendid Hotel, Cannes - Our room was on the 5th floor with double windows accessing a small balcony with south facing views over the Old Harbour (Le Vieux Port), Iles de Lérins, and the Bay of Cannes (Baie de Cannes). To the west from the balcony we had views towards the old quarter - Le Suquet with distant views of the hills of the Massif de l'Esterel beyond. This historic hotel has been continuously open since 1871. The 60 bed hotel is ideally situated, at the start of La Croisette, and just seconds away from luxury shopping opportunities and golden sandy beaches . Some rooms have balconies for guests to enjoy the sea views while others have vast south-facing terraces on the lower floors. Rooms are comfortable and like many rooms in the town not big. Considering the location and the views many of the rooms have, it represent fantastic value for money compared with the 5 start establishments further along La Croisette. Staff are always friendly and welcoming whenever we have stayed there. On each occasion we requested the same room on the 5th floor with a small balcony with the most stunning views over the old harbour, sea and the old town. One of my favourite places - Richmond Park at sunrise in the mist. This is a wonderful park in west London which teems with wildlife, living close-by I probably visit 2 or 3 times a week to pursue my love of photographing wildlife and nature.

A rainy day in London
View over the River Thames and Millennium Bridge to St Paul's Cathedral from outside The Tate Modern - the best place to be on a wet day in London.
