[The Thaumaturge] was formerly a member of the Index, who was exiled for witnessing the loom uninvited, and promptly seeking to recreate the technology for herself.

Her exile from the index wasn't only for seeing the loom and experiencing divine madness, but also because Thauma is a curious soul. And her curiousity led her eyes to drift toward the other fingers' technology, to singularities. Idle hands are the devil's tools; and hers were perfect for tinkering and trying to replicate such things.

Barely looking at the screen.

As if looking at the screen made the answer worse.
