Roomerang (P9) was the first game revealed for The Jackbox Party Pack 9; in lieu of a proper trailer, the development for the game was shared in a series of official live streams titled Inside the Box.

The game was pitched using a prototype on Google Jamboard, similar to testing the game on paper.

According to lead artist Hector Padilla, the aesthetic was directed to “warp realism” and “juxtapose reality with fantasy” in a way that reality TV does; Padilla drew inspiration from the mixed media art style of The Amazing World of Gumball.
