Space Story
Looking through the reinforced glass of the control room I watch helpless as almost our entire fleet is mangled into space dust by the Enforcers ships. We would be millions of crowns richer were it not for the unrivalled force of luck, the Enforcers passing by the trading freighter on a routine check almost as soon as we begun our assault. They'll destroy us all if I dont do something, I am the captain of what is now a few ships separated by debris. And yet I stay unmoving, frozen. Maybe out of fear, or maybe because of the reality im faced with.
Do something. Retreat or attack, just do anything. Say something to your crew! Act now or die. I barely hear the words im shouting, they're orders, what am I doing? I need to do better or we'll all die! Run. Run and hide like you used to. You cant abandon your crew so you need to act, I need to fight back.
I bark out the orders to reroute the engines power to the weapons and shields, my crew looking at me, understanding that its us or them. I wait in anticipation for the ships to enter our attack range, the silence of it all is the worst part, the combat of the fleet, or what little is left of it, is visible, yes, but unheard.
Many things happened in the next few seconds, the ships entered our range and we quickly found out we could barely scratch their paint, and they quickly found out that the anger of a pirate captain is more fierce than any armour their ship could carry. They destroy our left engine and cargo-bay, thats fine. They blast a hole through our only weapon, thats fine. They begin their assault on our engine, thats fine.
They havent taken out our warp drive yet, a mistake they're about to regret more than they could know. I give a few more orders and my crew knows that its over, that we've lost. But in this defeat comes wisdom, they follow my orders. The familiar hum of the warp drive fills the ship one final time, a sound that once meant triumph and celebration now haunts those who can hear it, the Enforcers were spared this, thankfully.
Powering the warp drive fully we destroy our engine but we bring our enemies with us through the warp, they must have realized what our destination was since they started trying to separate from us to alter their course, it was futile, of course. Their engines were just as useless as ours was, they were coming with us whether they liked it or not.
Exiting warp we enter the gravitational pull of a distant sun, an amazing final view and ending to our attackers. Our life support also got fried, we'll pass out long before we start to cook in here. I'll run through this encounter again and again, no doubt trying to think of a way we could've won. Its getting hard to think now so I doubt I'll find the answer I'm looking for.
(Sorry about the punctuation on this im trying to work on it! feedback is very much appreciated)
