Day Four:
Answering some popular questions that are being asked about teaching children blending and segmenting. I found this wonderful activity that blends both into one that is easy and a useful guide in teaching your little ones.
Please send in photos or clips of any of the activities you have completed and I can help you extend on the activity for your child/children.
Why is blending important?
-Blending is a crucial skill in learning to read since being able to mentally join speech sounds together to make words helps students to decode unfamiliar words using letter-sound patterns when reading. Difficulties with the ability to blend is a hallmark of the struggling reader.
What comes first blending or segmenting?
- Blending is linked to reading, segmenting linked to writing. Therefore, blending should come before segmenting, as you want to get children starting to read some words before they need to start writing them. Also, blending is a slightly easier skill to master as it relies more on listening.
Why is segmenting words important?
-Segmentation is a crucial skill in learning to spell since being able to split words up into their separate speech sounds helps students to encode unfamiliar words, giving them an advantage in learning to spell.
What does segmenting a word mean?
-Blending involves pulling together individual sounds or syllables within words; segmenting involves breaking words down into individual sounds or syllables.

Day Three:
Sorry for this blog being a little late, I have currently been poorly and haven’t been very active Iv just been spending what little time Iv been awake scrolling through TickTok, when I came across this wonderful activity.
Things you will need to comple this activity are;
- Cardboard
- White Beans/ you can also use tick tacks( please monitor the use of these though if you are doing this activity with small children because of chocking hazards)
- Dry- erase markers
- Glue Gun (for parents/ guardians use only!)
- Toothpaste
This video is a step to step guide on how you set out the activity for the child I thought a visual will be more easier to be able to follow also makes the child more engaged if shown before hand and excited about joining in the activity, this is good use and practice of teaching children about good hygiene and learning how to brush their delicate teeth 🦷
Down below I have attached an image to tell you about the importance of why it is important for your children to brush their teeth, this isn’t just good hygiene but also teaches them hand-eye co ordination and to hold things with their Palmer grip moving onto their tripod grip which will eventually help them mark mark and write their own name.

Day Two: Physical Activity
Tumblr media
Make a cardboard hopscotch for a fun indoor activity that your little ones can burn off some energy while being stuck inside when the weather isn’t the best outside.
This can also be done outside in the garden depending on if the weather is nice, otherwise the cardboard will become soggy although if the sun is shining and you’d like to create an easy hopscotch then colourful chalk is always my favourite.
This cardboard hopscotch gives kids the perfect excuse to hop and jump and move around when there cooped up inside. It’s also a good form of recycling old materials and creating homemade rescources will also save you some pennies.
Supplies:
-Cardboard ( large cereal boxes and old pizza boxes are ideal, these are easy to get hold of and are more than likely already in your household)
-Scissors ( please use under adult supervision or assistance)
- Pencil
-Paint or Crayons
-Paintbrushes (this depends if your painting or not)
Tumblr media
The things you need to follow to create your hopscotch is figuring out the design you want to go for your numbers and how many you want to do. The amount of numbers you decide to include may depend on how old the child/children are.
Once you have made this decision you can draw your numbers onto the cardboard squares and then decorate them!
If your not confident in writing out bubble style numbers then there are number templates available for you online to use.
Tumblr media
Arrange your squares on the floor and get hopping!
Letting your child/children rearrange the hopscotch is a great way to work on counting skills and number recognition.
Tumblr media
If your going to try this on wooden flooring make sure you test to see how slippery it is first!
You can always run a few lines of puffy paint along the back of the squares if your concerned about the cardboard sliding.
Tumblr media
Don’t forget the beanbag or your ā€œhopscotch stonesā€ if you don’t have beanbags then you can use a soft teddy or a pebble from the garden.
And that my friends, is all there is to know how to create your own indoor cardboard hopscotch for your toddlers and pre-schoolers.
Happy Hopping 🐰

Day One; I thought this would be a very fun creative activity to do with your little ones on a windy day 🌬
Tumblr media
If you live in Somerset like myself the wind has completely taken over the day but there’s no reason to still not have some fun and enjoy yourselfs.
This is a very fun activity that you can do either inside or outside before taking them out for a play in the garden or your local park.
These are stick wind streamers and down below are the instructions and supplies you will need( I will try to add some alternatives if you don’t have all of the supplies in your household).
Supplies:
-Sticks
-Ribbons
-String
-Yarn
-Scissors ( please don’t use without adult assistance or supervision)
Instructions:
Step One:
Have the children cut up strips of yarn, ribbon and string; they can be as long or as short as you would like this is also a good opportunity to speak about sizes and lengths asking your child what one is longer ect... the amount you use all depends on how much of the materials you have available. Next have the children tie the ribbon onto one end of their sticks to make the wind streamers.
Tumblr media
Step Two:
Tying knots is a great fine motor activity for children, it strengthens hand muscles and hand-eye coordination that children will need for writing skills. Plus it can become a great way to teach children how to tie up their shoes independently.
Younger children may still need a little extra help and support but preschoolers and older may be able to handle it on their own! You can also use rubber bands or glue if your child is having a hard time tying the ribbons together.
Tumblr media
Step Three:
When all the ribbons are attached it’s time to fly those streamers! Take them outside and see what happens when they hold them in the wind šŸ’Ø they also make super fun nature wants for pretend play!

Hello;
So I’m coming to you with a completely different style of blogging compared to my normal blog channel that I have.
I wanted to put this together because I thought it’s important to help one another while we can, I am a childcare provider with 5 almost 6 years worth of experience. Over this time I have seen and witnessed some parents wanting extra support or not knowing what activities and things they can do with there children.
So I though why not put a blog together where I can help parents/ guardians do this and also link it back to the early years foundation document that young children in nursery settings use where people can visually see what a baby/child can get out of the activities and interaction you their loved ones are giving them.
I’m hoping to aim to add activities daily and answer as many possible questions or enquiries you may have, I am new to this kind of blogging so please bare with me but this is something I’m very passionate about and my dream career that I get to proceed in doing. If I get to help more children and their family’s it just makes what I do just that even bit more rewarding.
My main channel may also be useful in visiting for parents/guardians who have either struggled or are struggling with mental health issues; it’s where I speak about positivity and Empowering the importance of a good mental health and tips of how to deal with some struggles.
