Class Exercise: After Effects

Tracking Camera in Maya.

To do this, we must first convert the video that we will be tracking into PNG/JPEG frames using premier pro, so that we can later import it to maya.

Afterwards, we must put it into after effects and select track camera. Then keyframe the scale and translation transformations at the beginning and ending of all the frames.

Then, we export it using the plugin AE3D export, which will export it as a MA file.

After importing the frames to maya, we can edit it as shown above to create the video.

Ideation for Final Project

I decided to combine the two ideas that I had initially; the found footage concept and the dinosaur concept. I will create a video that's told through the lens of a camera left behind, which has captured footage of dinosaurs roaming around and going about their day, much like a documentary format but without a voice over.

Concepts for Final Project

-Combining real life footage with 2D animated dinosaurs and creating a scene where an individual is being hunted down. At the very end there will be a shot where lightning flashes in the sky, and a hidden dinosaur will be revealed staring into a building through a large window.

-Exploring figures in horror stories from various cultures and mythologies in a found footage/analogue horror format. Combining 2D/3D animation.

-Exploring a universe that is inspired by Alice in Wonderland. Combining real life footage, 3D models and 2D animation into one space.

From the above concepts I'm leaning more towards the first and second. For the first concept, I have a rather solid idea of what to do in terms of shots I want to use and the narrative that it'll follow. As for the found footage horror concept, I am interested in the genre and want to explore it further. However, for both of these themes, I need to research on the university guidelines to figure out what I will have to censor (eg: blood, gore etc.)

Class Activity

Using Adobe After Effects.

After effects functions very similarly to premier pro and photoshop. I tested out the basics (Creating a new composition, changing its settings, importing media) that I learnt when I used it for previous assignments.

I followed the instructions of the lecturer to explore options such as keyframing, the effects and presets panel, and transform panels.

Most of these options are available in Premier pro as well, but I noticed that there are more complex options for video effects.
