Bien sûr, il savait qu’elle parlait à ses peintres, mais il avait fallu qu’il arrête d’être aveuglé par…par tout le reste, pour remarquer ces sortes d’absence presque fragiles, dissoutes dès qu’on s’approchait. C’était beau d’une certaine façon - la surprendre dans ces moments-là - mais ce genre d’absence ressemblait tellement à de la solitude qu’il avait du mal à ne pas l’interrompre. 

Ça durait jamais longtemps, et puis Florence avait toujours été assez solaire pour éclipser tout le reste, mais l’ombre était là. 

Il lui en avait pas vraiment parlé.

The people who go "well who's going to look after you when you're old?" when you say you're not having kids are breathtakingly naive. Our next-door neighbour, somewhere in her mid-80s, has a son, grandkids, and a grear-granddaughter, and who's the one she calls when she needs help, and checks that she's not spending christmas alone? Me and my boyfriend.

Having kids is irrelevant if the answer to that question is still going to be "the mentally ill faggots next door."
