TK takes it, and since he doesn’t exactly know what to do now, he slips a twenty dollar bill onto the desk. Billy eyes it, thanking him quietly.

Just as TK goes to open the wooden door to finally head home, Billy Tyson clears his throat, “kid, just.. be careful. Don’t go gettin’ into business that isn’t yours. This town– it’s different from others, okay?”

TK’s eyes find him, and if TK didn’t know any better, he’d say Billy almost looked scared for him. “Okay,” and with that, he leaves.

thanks @henrygrass !! wrote a little Lou fic that’ll get posted eventually :)

“How are you doing?” Carlos murmurs as he walks over to him.

“Better than our eight year old,” TK huffs, and then his eyes meet Carlos’. “You’ve probably been counting down to this day.”

Carlos frowns and the unexpected harsh comment rips into his chest. “TK,” he says, unable to hide the hurt in his voice. That’s not fair. He may not have been as close with Lou as TK—and eventually Jonah—were, but he was their pet. He was a part of their family.

TK scrubs his hands over his face. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I know you cared for him too.”

Carlos knows TK is hurting, and one of the first things he knew about this man is how he lashes out when he’s hurt. Carlos takes a breath and then sits down beside Carlos TK, wrapping an arm around his shoulders.

“I loved Lou. He was a good lizard.”

TK snorts a pathetic laugh. “He wasn’t, wasn’t he? Only escaped like… three times.”

Seven Sentence Sunday

Happy Sunday! I hope you all have a wonderful day. I'm personally having a lot of fun with this side project, so I wanted to share a little more about it.

Carlos is rigid, a human plank of wood in TK’s arms. TK presses a kiss to the nape of his neck, squeezing Carlos tightly. “What's wrong, baby?” he asks, his voice a rumble of sleep.

“She’s—” Carlos shifts a millimeter, the sheets whispering in the dark. “She’s looking at me.”

“Hmm? Who?”

“Charlotte.”

TK’s eyes flutter open. He squints, adjusting to the dim silver light filtering through the curtains, until his gaze lands on the dark silhouette perched on the dresser: the antique porcelain doll in her frilly dress, her painted smile a sliver too wide, and a miniature pitchfork clutched in her hands.

“Her eyes followed me to the bathroom and back,” Carlos adds, voice tight. “I swear she blinked. I think she knows what I did to you.”

TK snorts, burying his laugh against Carlos' back before pressing another kiss between his shoulder blades. “Maybe she’s proud. That took stamina—you’re not in your prime anymore.”

Carlos elbows him gently. “Shut up. Do you think she could be a nanny cam? Tía Lucy is crafty.”

TK studies the doll. The moonlight catches her glassy eyes—they aren't quite pointed in the same direction. Her smile seems less gentle and more… knowing. “Babe, if your aunt is spying on us with a Victorian-era doll, she’s earned the footage she got. Now, sleep.” He pulls Carlos closer to his chest, acting as his human shield. “I’ll protect you.”

Carlos lets out a skeptical hum. “If you wake up tomorrow and I’ve been prodded to death with a tiny fork, you know who did it.”

“Don’t worry. I’d avenge you,” TK murmurs, nuzzling into Carlos. “Kick her right out of the window.”
