Looking for people interested in a Discord study group
Haven't posted on here in centuries but I'm wondering if there's anyone else who'd like to have a kind of online study group for motivation?
I'm 19 and not in school for various reasons, I'm particularly interested in the humanities and try to keep learning despite not being in school.
I'm currently learning Latin, reading about Greek mythology and I intend to start learning via the YouTube channel CrashCourse again. Aside from that I've been playing guitar for a few months. Odds are I'll have some interests in common with some people on here!
I'd like to start a small Discord server with a handful of people as a place to motivate and help each other out.
I'm no Discord wizard in any way but it seems like an easy place to just hang out and chat, trying to combat pandemic loneliness and to help everyone get their things done. (It would be text only because I have some hearing issues, so keep that in mind if you prefer voice chats.)
I'm looking for some people around my age with similar interests, so feel free to send me a message if this sounds like something you'd interested in!
I don't have a whole lot of other requirements aside from what I mentioned before, aside from like, just being decent to each other, standard internet etiquette.

A native Russian speaker’s perspective on the Russian language
For those of you learning Russian or just curious about it :)
spelling is a mess
punctuation is even worse: you have to know 76487658 rules and conduct a 10-step linguistic analysis to put proper punctuation marks in a more or less complex sentence
we constantly mix up similar-looking letters in English and Russian on the keyboard
everyone’s New Year resolution is to brush up their English
no one actually says ‘zdrav-stvuj-teh’ (здравствуйте, hello). It’s usually ‘zdras-tu-te’, ‘zdras-te’ (the most common variant), or even dras-te’ (there is a russian meme ‘дратути’ (dra-tu-tee) mocking a way of shortening the word)
in fast speech it’s normal to drop like 10-20% of sounds
there are quite a few widely used words an expressions originated from criminal argot, presumably left over after mass imprisonment under Stalin
the common way to address a stranger is мужчина, женщина or девушка (literally ‘man, woman, [young] girl’). Everyone finds it weird and inconvenient, but can’t come up with smth else
Russian swear words sound way ruder than English ones (still almost everyone swears)
quite a lot of English words don’t have well-sounding alternatives in Russian (words like self-consciousness, counterintuitive, rule of thumb will sound strange translated literally)
…but good luck translating 50 shades of meaning of Russian diminutives (кошка, кошечка, киса, кисонька, кисля, котик, кошак vs cat or kitty)
don’t ask me how Russian works without articles and link verbs, it’s probably just black magic
the Russian language is amazing. I’m fucking blessed to speak it as a first language.

Why I love Russian
When Russians get tipsy they say “У меня вертолёты.” Lit. “I have the helicopters.”
There are two kinds of envy in Russian. “белая зависть” or “white envy” which is the good kind, where ultimately you are genuinely happy for the person and their good fortune. I think you can guess the other kind.
Russian’s terms of endearment are the best. “Солнышко” lit. “my small sun” and “Дорогуша” meaning “dearie” are among my favorites
Your first semester as a uni student is called “Боевое крещение” lit. “baptism by fire.”
When a Russian person feels like you are pulling their leg, they might say “Не надо мне лапшу на уши вешать” which means “don’t try to play me.” The literal translation? “Don’t hang noodles on my ears”
Russian people like to show their love for something by using diminutives, so phrases like “Буду кусочек этого тортика” lit. “I’ll have a teeny tiny piece of that cakey” and “Мне очень понравился этот супчик” lit. “I really liked that soupy-soup” are a common thing. My favorite diminutive, though? It’s “cпасибочки!” which literally means “Thankie!”

I need to get more disciplined! I’m basically doing homeschooling at school if that makes any sense. One classroom, you make your own schedule, etc.
For ages I’ve really struggled with concentration but I’m back!!! I’m so happy with that! I’m really struggling with a lot of life things atm but I don’t think schoolwork will suffer too much from that, epic!

I got a not-so-great grade on a test and I was sorta down in the dumps about it but hey, I struggled with the test and still passed. It’s not that bad considering how much I struggled and how poor my concentration was!

To be crystal clear I don’t support cringe culture like: ew that autistic 14 year old likes minecraft and homestuck, cringey!
I support cringe culture like: this grown ass 26 year old weaboo is racist and puts “straight so fuck your complaints” in his long tumblr bio like it’s some edgy rebellion
